Numerical Analysis of Turbulent Flow around Tube Bundle by Applying CFD Best Practice Guideline (CFD 우수사례 지침을 적용한 관 다발 주위의 난류유동 수치해석)

  • In this study, the numerical analysis of a turbulent flow around both a staggered and an inline tube bundle was conducted using ANSYS CFX V.13, a commercial CFD software. The flow was assumed to be steady, incompressible, and isothermal. According to the CFD Best Practice Guideline, the sensitivity study for grid size, accuracy of the discretization scheme for convection term, and turbulence model was conducted, and its result was compared with the experimental data to estimate the applicability of the CFD Best Practice Guideline. It was concluded that the CFD Best Practice Guideline did not always guarantee an improvement in the prediction performance of the commercial CFD software in the field of tube bundle flow.

Seismic Response Analysis of a MW Class Wind-Turbine Considering Applied Wind Loads (풍하중 효과를 고려한 MW급 풍력발전기 타워의 지진응답 해석)

  • In this study, seismic response analyses of a MW class wind-turbine have been conducted considering applied wind-loads using advanced computational method based on CFD and FEM. Typical lateral and vertical acceleration levels induced by earthquake is also considered herein. Practical numerical method for seismic response analysis of wind-turbine tower models are presented in the time-domain and the effects of wind load and seismic excitation for responses are compared to each other. It is importantly shown that possible earthquake effect during typical operating conditions should be taken into account in the design of huge wind-turbine tower systems because of its enormous inertia characteristics for induced maximum stress level.

  • 일반적으로 건축물의 설계시 풍동 실험을 통한 풍환경의 평가를 수행하고 있으며, 이는 환경 영향 평가법에서 정한 건축 사업 시행 시 수반되어야 할 자연환경, 생활환경 그리고 사회경제환경의 영향 평가의 일환으로 실시되고 있다. 그러나, 풍동 실험의 경우 여러 가지 현실적 제약조건으로 설계와 실험의 피드백 (Feedback)이 원활하지 못하며, 특히 대상 건축물이 공장과 같이 대기 오염원이 되는 경우 실험은 더욱 어려운 형편이다. 이에 대한 보완책으로 전산 유체 역학을 이용한 건축물의 풍압 해석에 의한 풍하중 추정이나 인접 지형-지물의 영향을 고려한 건축물 주위의 풍환경 평가가 있다. 전산 모사에 의해 풍동 실험의 미비점을 보완하고, 보다 상세한 정보를 확보함으로써 건축물의 구조적 안전성의 증대와 환경 피해 감소를 기할 수 있다. 그러나 복잡한 지형-지물이나 건축물 주위의 풍환경에 대한 전산 모사는 주로 두 가지의 기술적 어려움을 수반하게 되다. 그 중 하나는 고정 경계면을 이루는 형상의 복잡성으로 인해 기존에 많이 이용하고 있는 Body-fitted 격자계를 이용하는 경우, 격자 생성 과정이 매우 복잡하고 어려울 뿐 만 아니라 생성된 격자가 주로 비정렬 (unstructured) 특성을 갖게 되어 수치해석 과정의 효율을 저하시키는 요인이 되며, 격자의 형상도 수치해석의 수렴성을 저하시키는 예가 많다. 다른 어려움으로 풍환경은 전형적인 난류 유동장으로서 난류의 전산 해석은 아직도 해결하지 못한 부분이 많다는 점이다. 이에 본 논문에서는 복잡한 지형-지물이나 건축물의 풍하중과 풍환경의 전산 모사 기술 확보를 위하여 수행중인 연구의 일환으로 물체 형상의 기하학적 복잡성의 극복을 위한 가상경계법 (Immersed Boundary Method)과 난류 유동장의 물리적 엄밀성을 높이기 위한 다와동 모사 (Large Eddy Simulation)을 이용한 물체 형상과 무관한 유동장 해석 기술 개발에 대하여 다루고자 한다. 먼저 최근에 유동 해석에 이용되는 방법인 가상경계법(IBM)은 물체를 포함한 전체 전산 영역을 직교 좌표계에 의해 이산화하고, 유동장내 존재하는 물체의 표면에서의 점착 조건을 만족시키기 위하여 지배 방정식에 적절한 외력을 추가로 고려하는 방법이다. 본 연구에서는 가상경계법을 이용하여 경계층에 위치한 건물 형상의 각진 물체 주위 사이에 형성되는 공동 내부의 비정상 유속 및 압력에 대한 전산 해석을 수행하고, 풍상측 전면에 형성되는 경계층에 의한 영향을 분석하였다.

  • A general purpose program NUFLEX for the analysis 3-D thermo/fluid flow and pre/post processor in complex geometry has been developed, which consists of a flow solver based on FVM and GUI based pre/post processor. The solver employs a general non-orthogonal grid system with structured grid and solves laminar and turbulent flows with standard/RNG $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model. In addition, NUFLEX is incorporated with various physical models, such as interfacial tracking, cavitation, MHD, melting/solidification and spray models. For the purpose of evaluation of the program and testing the applicability, many actual problems are solved and compared with the available data. Comparison of the results with that by STAR-CD or FLUENT program has been also made for the same flow configuration and grid structure to test the validity of NUFLEX.

  • Debris flow is a composition of solid objects of various sizes, suspension and water, which occurs frequently as the results of landslide following heavy rainfall. This often causes extensive damage in the form of socio-economic losses and casualties as witnessed during the incident around Mt. Umyeon, Seoul in 2011. There have been numerous investigation to mitigate the impacts from debris flow; however, the estimation as preparedness measure has not been successful due to nonlinear and multiphase characteristics of phenomena both in material and process inherent in the debris flow. This study presents a numerical approach to simulate the debris flow using open source code of computational fluid dynamics, OpenFOAM with non-Newtonian viscosity model for three phase material modeling. In order to validate the proposed numerical method, the quantitative evaluations were made by comparisons with experimental results and qualitative analysis for the dispersion characteristics was carried for the case of debris flow in the actual incident from Mt. Umyeon.

COMPUTATIONAL MODELING AND SIMULATION OF METAL PLASMA GENERATION BETWEEN CYLINDRICAL ELECTRODES USING PULSED POWER (펄스파워를 이용한 실린더형 전극간 금속 플라즈마 생성현상의 전산유동해석)

  • This computational study features the transient compressible and inviscid flow analysis on a metallic plasma discharge from the opposing composite electrodes which is subjected to pulsed electric power. The computations have been performed using the flux corrected transport algorithm on the axisymmetric two-dimensional domain of electrode gap and outer space along with the calculation of plasma compositions and thermophysical properties such as plasma electrical conductivity. The mass ablation from aluminum electrode surfaces are modeled with radiative flux from plasma column experiencing intense Joule heating. The computational results shows the highly ionized and highly under-expanded supersonic plasma discharge with strong shock structure of Mach disk and blast wave propagation, which is very similar to muzzle blast or axial plasma jet flows. Also, the geometrical effects of composite electrodes are investigated to compare the amount of mass ablation and penetration depth of plasma discharge.

Assessment of the Pressure Transient Inside the Passenger Cabin of High-speed Train Using Computational Fluid Dynamics (전산유체역학을 이용한 고속철도차량 객실 내 압력변동 평가)

  • The pressure transient inside the passenger cabin of high-speed train has been assessed using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) based on the axi-symmetric Navier-Stokes equation. The pressure change inside a train have been calculated using first order difference approximation based on a linear equation between the pressure change ratio inside a train and the pressure difference of inside and outside of the train. The numerical results show that the pressure change inside the new Korean high-seed train passing through a tunnel of Seoul-Busan high-speed line at the speed of 330km/h satisfied well the Korean regulation for pressure change inside a passenger cabin if the train is satisfying the train specification for airtightness required by the regulation.

Numerical Flow Simulations Around High Speed Train Using CHIMERA Grid Technique (CHIMERA 격자기법을 이용한 고속전철 주위의 전산유동해석)

  • The aerodynamic charateristics of high speed train can be improved by well-designing of its fore-body shape. In this paper, as a way of the design a fore-body shape which has optimal aerodynamic charasteristics, 9 models of fore-body shapes are proposed and the change of aerodynamic charateristics is studied through calculations of flow field around high speed train for each fore-body shape. The flow field around high speed trains are calculated using Thin-Layer Navier-Stokes equation and Chimera grid technique. The application of Chimera grid technique to these flow calculations over high speed train which has ground plane under the train makes grid generation easily. As a computaional algorithm, Pulliam and Chaussee's Diagonal algorithm, the modified form of the Beam and Warming's AF scheme which operates on block-tridiagonal matrices, is selected to reduce computaional time. Introducing hole points flag concept to this Diagonal algorithm. a algorithm for Chimera grid is generated. The variational trends of aerodynamic characteristics are studied from the results of flow calculations around high speed trains for 9 fore-body shapes.

  • In the present work, numerical simulations were conducted on the scaled model of the BWB type UCAV in the subsonic region using ANSYS FLUENT V15. The prediction method was validated through comparison with experimental results and the effect of the twisted wing was investigated. To consider the transitional flow phenomenon, ${\gamma}$ transition model based on SST model was adopted. The coefficients of lift, drag and pitching moment were compared with experimental results and the pressure distribution and streamlines were investigated. The twisted wing decreases the lift force but increases lift-to-drag ratio through delay of stall and leading edge vortex's movement to the front, also the non-linearity of the pitching moment is decreased.
