  • Purpose: To investigate the effect of anterior, posterior corneal astigmatism and total corneal astigmatism on posterior corneal astigmatism by analyzing correlation. Methods: Participants were 31 patients (31 eyes) without corneal disease at the age range of 22 to 28 who had visited hospital to receive corneal refractive surgery. The total corneal astigmatism and anterior and posterior corneal astigmatism were measured using a rotating scheimpflug camera before surgery. The magnitude of astigmatism was calculated with the difference between the meridian of the steep refractive power and the flat, and With-The-Rule and inverse astigmatism were divided according to the direction of the meridian that was the steepest. Results: The averages of total corneal astigmatism and anterior and posterior astigmatism were found to be $1.13{\pm}0.76D$, $1.51{\pm}0.84D$, and $-0.59{\pm}0.17D$. The magnitude of posterior corneal astigmatism was distributed between -1.0 D and -0.25 D in all the subjects, and when the magnitude of total corneal astigmatism was set as 100, the magnitude of anterior corneal astigmatism was $142.9{\pm}29.9%$. Total corneal astigmatism indicated the highest correlation with the magnitude of anterior astigmatism (y = 0.871x-0.184, $R^2=0.982$) and high negative correlation with posterior astigmatism (y = -2.974x-0.184, $R^2=0.698$). All the subjects' anterior and posterior corneal astigmatism was classified into With-The-Rule. Conclusions: Anterior and posterior corneal astigmatism in the subjects in their 20's showed the magnitude of -3.8 D in 0.2 D and -0.25 D in -1.0 D separately, and both anterior and posterior astigmatism indicated a high percentage of With-The-Rule.

  • The purpose of present study was to determine the frequency of RA with age and to investigate the age-related trends and changing-factors in RA, CA and IAs. The refractive power of the eye and the power of corneal anterior surface were measured with auto-refractor among 1,017 inhabitants aged 5 to 59 years in Cheongju in July 2010. The overall frequency of RA was 22.7%, and frequency of RA increased from 8.9% in 5~9 years age group to 36.8% in 20~29 years age group. It then dipped to 19.2% in 40~49 years age group but increased again 28.6% in 50~59 years age group. $J_{45}$ components for RA, CA, and IAs were fairly stable in different age groups, the changes in $J_0$ components for both RA and CA appeared to be decreased after age of 30 years. In addition, the refractive power on the vertical direction was changed slightly with age, but the refractive power on the horizontal direction was changed significantly with age. It was expected that the change in the frequency of astigmatism with age was due to the change in the refractive power of horizontal meridian.

  • In this study, by using the Oculus Pentacam, we analyzed the relationship of corneal front astigmatism corneal and the radius of curvature of the rear face of the 20's to 40's. The vertical radius of curvature were man 7.94mm (${\pm}0.22$), women 7.87mm (${\pm}0.21$), the horizontal radius of the anterior corneal appeared man 7.69mm (${\pm}0.27$), women 7.63mm(${\pm}0.23$). And rear vertical radius of curvature were man 6.52mm(${\pm}0.23$), woman 6.55mm (${\pm}0.22$), the horizontal radius of the anterior corneal appeared man 6.06mm (${\pm}0.24$), woman 6.08mm(${\pm}0.24$). The results of correlation analysis between the radius of corneal posterior surface and the anterior corneal surface, it was found out that there is a significant correlation. In this study, similar results were obtained anterior surface of the cornea, the radius of curvature of the rear surface, the refractive power, and astigmatism, as other papers that have been reported. But in this paper, the cornea thickness was thicker than other previously reported paper.
