Manual and Automatic Steering System Using Pulley and Electrical Clutch for Manned and Unmanned Electric Vehicle (풀리 및 전자클러치를 이용한 유무인 전기자동차용 수동 및 자동조향장치)

  • In this paper, a manual and automatic steering system for electric vehicles capable of manned and unmanned driving is proposed. The automatic steering systems, EPS, MDPS, used in conventional engine based car includes the problem of handle lock phenomenon while driving of overloading, therefore it has a drawback to apply to manned and unmanned electric vehicles. By using electronic clutch and pulleys, the proposed manual and automatic steering mechanism was designed so that it is possible to convert from manual to automatic steering mode. To experiment the performance of the proposed steering system, we made an experimental setup of an electric vehicle. We confirmed that the proposed manual and automatic steering system was useful for manned and unmanned electric vehicles.

Steering Consuming Energy and Fuel Efficiency Analysis Depending on Steering System Model (조향 모델에 따른 조향 소모 에너지와 연비 분석)

  • For high fuel economy, many kinds of unit in vehicle have been developed. In steering system, as a result, HPS(Hydraulic Power Steering) system has been replaced as EHPS and EPS system. But the structures of these systems are totally different, and that causes the uncertainty of fuel economy evaluation. Therefore we undertake to research to find results and tendency of fuel economy and energy in steering system. For accurate evaluation, we modeled different types of steering systems on same vehicle model. The simulation came into action on various driving cycle. The driving condition is designed to show standby power of pump. Results show differences of fuel efficiency and energy consumption.

  • 자동차의 제동장치, 조향장치, 자동 변속장치 등에 요구되는 큰 힘을 얻기 위하여 유압식 구동장치가 중량당 출력비가 높고 응답특성이 좋으며 과부하에 대한 방지기능이 간단하게 이루어 진다는 장점이 있기 때문이다. 본 고에서는 우리나라에서도 전자제어식 제동장치, 조향장치, 자동변속장치, 현가장치 등의 개발을 시도하고 있는 현 시점에서 기술축적이 가장 취약한 분야라고 볼 수 있는 자동차용 전기유압밸브의 기본적인 메카니즘에 대하여 종합적으로 소개하고자 한다.

Tandem Light Deflector Operated by Electrowetting (전기습윤으로 구동하는 이중 광원 조향장치)

  • This paper presents a new type of electrowetting driven tandem light deflector for high performance optical application. To steer an incident light, the proposed light deflector deforms the fluid interface using electrowetting actuation. The performance of the light deflector was experimentally verified by using a prototype of the proposed light deflector. Single and tandem light deflectors were separately prepared using microfabrication processes. The optical tests of the deflectors were conducted using a laser light. The proposed tandem light deflector obtained a 45° beam steering angle with a 5.3° deflection angle while a single light deflector was required for a 10.9° deflection angle to obtain the same beam steering angle. The proposed tandem light deflector with high optical capability can be applied to various optical applications from camera modules in mobile smart devices to advanced future optical systems.

A Study on Adjustable Base Station Antenna Based on Electrical Tilt for Null Steering (전기적 빔 조향기반의 기지국 안테나에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we propose an electrically tilting system based on a null-steering in order to solve the problem of the shadowing loss caused by the mechanically tilted antenna system in mobile services. Especially, we improve the downward shadowing loss by eliminating or moving the vertical beampattern nulls between $-30^{\circ}{\sim}0^{\circ}$ to be able to tilt the downward beampattern between $-10^{\circ}{\sim}0^{\circ}$. The antenna has 14.5 dBi gain and side lobe level (SLL) is lower than -18 dB within downward tilting range. The isolation of polarization is greater than 30 dB when running in electric tilt down to $-10^{\circ}$. To verify this paper, we made the base-station antenna for W-CDMA and beam tilting devices, and verified the performances.

Design Techniques for reduction of Cogging Torque in Brushless DC Motors used for Electric Power Steering (전기 조향 장치용 BLDC 모터 내의 코깅 토크 저감을 위한 설계 기술 개발)

  • Cogging torque is often a principal source of vibration and control difficulty in permanent magnet motors, especially at low speeds and loads. For example, reduction of cogging torque is an important specification for DC motors used for electric power stee- ring. This paper examines two motor design techniques, stator tooth notching and rotor pole skewing with magnet pole shaping, for reduction of cogging torque, and the effect of each method on the airgap flux, and the use of the Maxwell stress method and Fourier decomposition to calculate the periodic cogging torque. The analyses show that the cogging torque can be nearly eliminated by the suggested designs, with minimal scacrifice of output torque.

  • The technical development of electric vehicles has been actively proceeding because of the reduction of oil resources and need for eco-friendly vehicle technology. In particular, an electronic control unit is an important element in the technology of electric vehicles due to the motor drive system. This paper concerns an experimental study on the thermal analysis of the steering control ECU structure for an electric vehicle. The ECU unit is designed for eight heat sinks for the thermal analysis of the ECU structure. The thermal analysis characteristics of the ECU structure are evaluated by the temperature distribution, heat flow, von Mises stress, total translation, and external surface temperature measurement of the ECU unit.

  • Electro-hydraulic power steering (EHPS) system is the power-assisted steering which operates the hydraulic pump by BLDC motors for assisting the steering force. EHPS consists of BLDC motor, gear pump, oil-hydraulic circuit and steering system. Since EHPS is a convergence system consisting of electricity and electronic, hydraulic and mechanical system, it is difficult to establish the simulation model. In this paper, the mathematical model of EHPS system components were presented, and the simulations of the multi-domain system were performed by using AMESim. The trial and error of development would be reduced by using this simulation results, and it would be helpful for developing high-quality EHPS.

  • Single-layer winding configuration in a 12-slot 10-pole Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) has been adopting in electrical power steering (EPS) systems to get the high fault tolerance capability of the motor. However, the motor with single-layer winding has magnetic circuit saturations in the teeth, which deteriorates its performance. In this paper, we propose asymmetric teeth widths to get over the demerit, and analyze the effect of the teeth width ratio variations on the performances of the PMSM. As a result, we suggest the most valuable teeth width ratio for designing the PMSM with a single-layer winding configuration.
