  • In this paper, the electrical values of resistance, current, and voltage condition of reactivity is analyzed by applying the direct current (DC) voltage in medium for stem cell regeneration treatment. The voltage response by medium is related to electrical stimulation in the process of induction of differentiation for stem cell and the differentiation condition can be checked depending on the response of voltage condition. If the voltage level is lower in reacting response of a medium, the stem cell stimulation condition is stable, and if the voltage changing level is higher, the stem cell stimulation condition is unstable and a considerable loss will be resulted in the differentiation process. In this research, the optimization of electrical stimulation condition is expected for possible stem cell regeneration treatment.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine whether an exogenous electric current to the alveolar bone surrounding a tooth being orthodontically treated can enhance tooth movement in human and to verify the effect of electric currents on tooth movement in a clinical aspect. Methods: This study was performed on 7 female orthodontic patients. The electric appliance was set in the maxilla to provide a direct electric current of $20{\mu}A$. The maxillary canine on one side was assigned as the experimental side, and the other as control. The experimental canine was provided with orthodontic force and electric current. The control side was given orthodontic force only. Electrical current was applied to experimental canines for 5 hours a day. The amount of canine movement was measured with an electronic caliper every week. Results: The amount of orthodontic tooth movement in the experimental side during 4 weeks was greater by 30% compared to that of the control side. The amount of increase in tooth movement in the experimental side was statistically significant. The amount of tooth movement in the experimental side during the first two weeks was !Bleater than that in the following two weeks. The amount of weekly tooth movement in the control side was decreased gradually. Conclusions: These results suggested that the exogenous electric current from the miniature electric device might accelerate orthodontic tooth movement by one third and have the potential to reduce orthodontic treatment duration.

  • Many researches have been performed whether electrical stimulation could be used for diagnosis and treatment on the auditory system impairment. Unfortunately, there were no standard methods or theoretical background for choosing stimulus conditions because of the lack of understanding on the transmission of electrical stimulation through the auditory pathway. This research was conducted to observe the effect of electrical stimulation on the tinnitus-induced animals. Nine guniea pigs were used for the experment and divided into two groups, five animals for the experimental group(A) and four animals for the control group(B). Experimental conditions were divided into four steps, before tinnitus induction and 1, 6, 12 hours after tinnitus induction using salicylate based on the Jastreboff model. In each experimental condition, ABR and ECochG were obtained, and autocorrelation coefficients were calculated from normalized waveforms based on rms values. Sum of all the autocorrelation coefficients was extracted as a parameter to observe the changes between before and after the electrical stimulation. As a result, ABR parameter values were rapidly increased 6 hours after tinnitus induction, the gradually returned back to the initial state. On the other hand, when electrical stimulation was applied, parameter values did not change compared with the initial sate. Parameter values of ECochG showed that the effect of electrical stimulation appeared 12 hours after the tinnitus induction. It was concluded that an electrical stimulation to the tinnitus-induced model changes the correlation coefficients of ABR and ECochG waveforms.

  • The purpose of the research study is to confirm in effectiveness of somatosensory stimulation and to propose ideal training strategy for functional recovery of stroke patients. Through the previous literatures, our study investigated to the advantages and disadvantages in electrical somatosensory stimulation for stroke patients. Also, our study suggested to applicable strategies and confirmed to growth direction about new somatosensory stimulation therapy for functional recovery in stroke patients. Result of research study, although many study demonstrated to the effectiveness about somatosensory stimulation therapy for stroke patients, many therapists have experienced many difficulties in somatosensory stimulation application for stroke patients in rehabilitation environments. Thus, few have the therapeutic tools for somatosensory or specific sensory input. However, apparently the previous literatures showed that effectiveness of somatosensory stimulation on functional recovery of patients with brain damage. In conclusion, we can be confirmed that an ideal somatosensory stimulation program is very effective in promoting recovery and the integrity of the somatosensory pathway of stroke patients. Furthermore, we anticipate that using the customized mechanical interface provides to positive effects in rehabilitation of patients with brain damage.
