In the recent cataloging environment, the function of authority data is becoming more important. In Korea, a pilot project for sharing and joint use of the national authority data has been promoted since 2019, and a plan to automatically construct retrospective authority data using national authorities is in progress. This study aims to (1) analyze the results of the pilot project for retrospective authority data jointly promoted by the National Library of Korea and KERIS in 2019, (2) explore methodological limitations and problems in the process, and (3) derive policy proposals for constructing authority data more efficiently. To this end, a university library participating in the pilot project was investigated as a case study. Based on it, the automatic generation rate and accuracy of authority data, and errors and omissions cases and causes were analyzed in detail. As a results of the study, it was found that the quality of union catalogs and bibliographic records had a great influence on automatically constructing authority data, and supplementary methods were needed to minimize these limitations.

This study analyzed the current condition of authority control, introduced the MADS(Metadata Authority Description Schema) for authority data. MADS supports encoding an authority description for a agent(person, organization), event, term(topic, temporal entity, genre, geographic entity, hierarchical geographic entity, occupation) and defines main elements, subelements, and attributes using the XML schema language. Lastly, using the MADS's characteristics, this study proposed the effective use plans of interoperability of authority data.

In this study, we proposed the FRAD concept model of authority data schema for author, organization and journal titles included in the academic papers. Academic information includes author names, affiliations, publishers, journals and conferences. They are used as access points, and there are multiple relationships among these entities. It is expected that the use of authority data for academic information based on FRAD conceptual model could improve more accurate retrieval of information, systematic management of academic information, and various forms of knowledge representation. In this study, our entity-relationship authority data will be linked to the document, and included the several properties and relationship to identify the object.

In this paper, we proposed the effectively method for constructing of name authority data in korean academic papers and designed the authority database system that is applied the method. For these, we analyze the requisite for identifying the author name and suggest the author identification method. Because construction of name authority record costs time and effort, and considering frequently period of large-scale acquisitions of academic papers, our suggestion includes the system that be able to manage and construct the name authority database, and that is tightly connected with the academic paper management and service systems.

This study is to find the new method for authority control in Korea by surveying status of authority control in university libraries and by analyzing international conceptual model of authority control and VIAF. 2 kinds of survey were done: one is for libraries having authority records and the other is for libraries not having authority records. In survey result, libraries that have authority records want to sustain their own forms of authorized access points and libraries that have no authority records want the rules related to authority and the national cooperative authority control system to be constructed. Based on ICP 2009, FRAD conceptual model, VIAF and this survey result, new authority control is to respect the diversity of forms of the authorized access points. New authority control is to permit authority records that reflect provision for linguistic or cultural environments of each library, confirming to the national cataloging code. Therefore, authorized access points will be displayed according to user preferred forms. For this new authority control, it is needed to make national authority rule, to build the authority records according to library's own rules, and to construct the cooperative authority control system. Also for user preferred authority control, it is needed to describe detailed elements for authority control and relation data between authorized access points, between authorized access points and variant forms. This study could contribute to suggest new authority control that could accept all kinds of authorized access points preferred by nation, libraries, and users.

The purpose of this study was to conduct interviews with librarians who have experience in establishing local authority data by participating in the national authority sharing system of the National Library of Korea and to understand librarians' recognition and support for the joint utilization of national authority data. For this purpose, a total of 10 librarians who participated in the national authority sharing system project were interviewed by telephone using semi-structured questionnaires. Through this, it was possible to investigate the benefits, difficulties, utilization plans, revision plans of headings, and opinions on necessary support. The results of this study showed that the participants recognized that the joint utilization of national authority data provides the basis for the authority work of the local library and brings about the efficiency of the authority work, but they recognized the difficulty of modifying, selecting, creating new data, lacking knowledge, and lacking support system. The necessary support for the joint utilization of national authority data was provided with education and manuals related to authority, provision of rules related to authority that fully consider the position of the institution, budget and manpower support for system development and maintenance, establishment of communication channel and council, system and data advancement, and incentive to participating libraries. Based on the results of the study, the method and direction for the future operation of the joint utilization of national authority data were presented.

This study was to prepare a development plan for nationwide authority control system based on national authority sharing system of NLK through the survey targeting on libraries which do not participate in the system. Six plans were suggested to establish a nationwide authority control system based on this survey. First, an authority data construction module and a module linked to the national authority sharing system should be developed. Second, describing external identifiers such as ISNI to the national authority sharing system is to provides reliability of data and to utilizes to build linked data. Third, it is necessary to prepare strategies for promoting the national authority sharing system and diversifying services. Fourth, both authority establishment and non-establishment show difficulties and diversity in the selection and description of authorized access point, so it is necessary to prepare rules related to authorized access points. Fifth, since the data described in authority records is not enough, it is necessary to improve and upgrade authority records by using bibliographic records. Sixth, it is necessary to educate librarians about the necessity and function of authority control. As such, this study is meaningful in that it investigated the current status and requirements of libraries that do not participate in the nationwide authority system and sought ways to establish a nationwide cooperative authority control system.

The purpose of this study is to develop linked data of authority data in national archives of Korea as a cornerstone for linked data cloud of Korea. The study analyzed data structure of authority data as well as a retrieval system. It finally developed linked data based on RDF/OWL, Dublin Core, and SKOS. The study also employed TopBraid ComposerTM as a tool for ontology construction. The visualization of the tool provides users with flexible search and browsing between data as well as access of detail authority data. It complements the search of a current system in terms of flexible linking between records and authority data. The study also suggests future work to publish linked data of archival data set itself and make rich relationships among data in museums, libraries, and other archives.

This study aims to suggest some idea for construction of headings in authority records to improve conventional method for authority control. The reference structure between established form and other forms was replaced by the link structure based on access points and adopting standard authority numbers was considered. Additional elements such as work information to distinguish homonym and notational system of the headings to promote sharing of authority records were also addressed. Authority records management system was constructed to test structure of headings suggested in this study, too. Through this research, we confirmed that management, identification, and sharing of authority records were considerably improved compared with the conventional authority control system.

This study was conducted with the aim of identifying the current status of the national authority data construction project centered on the National Library of Korea for the effective construction and utilization of national knowledge information resources. It also aimed to reveal the possibility and improvement of the national information system with the international standard identification system, and suggesting future development plans. To this end, this study conducted interviews and questionnaires with members of the Korean National Authority Data Sharing System(KNASS). The survey consisted of items related to the current status and difficulties related to the authority, the use of the KNASS, the recognition and utilization of identifiers, the awareness and utilization of the linkage with ISNI, the Importance-Performance Analysis for activating the KNASS, and the overall satisfaction and improvement direction. As a result of the analysis, it was proposed to develop rules and guidelines related to the authority works, to increase the quantity and quality of authority data, to raise understanding of the importance and establish a efficient work system, to diversify the authority service and develop a utilization model, to link the KNASS with international identifiers, and to share the necessity of the KNASS.
