  • This paper proposes a novel transversal filter and an optimal LMS algorithm, and show how these can be realized as an adaptive equalizer. The transversal filter consists of a walsh and block pulse functions. in the LMS algorithm with equalizers, the convergence factor is an improtant design parameter because it governs stability and convergence speed. The conventional adaptation techniques use a fixed time constant convergence factor by the trial and error method. In this paper, an optimal method in the choice of the convergence factor is proposed. The proposed algorithm is obtrained that is tailored for each filter tap and is updated at each iteration. The performance of the proposed algorithm is compared iwth those of the conventional TDL and DFT equalizers by computer simulations.

  • Recently, many papers have been proposed in order to improve the OFDM system performance in T-DMB DOCR (Digital On Channel Repeater), by using removing the feedback signal so that the transmitter power can be increased or by using the equalizer to remove ICI. Despite these efforts, however, signal quality at the receiving terminal has not been improved because of constellation smearing in T-DMB DOCR. In this paper, in order to suppress constellation smearing, we propose an effective equalizer algorithm that can improve system performance. We perform adaptive channel estimation and non-coherent decision directed noise cancellation method that can estimate the channel subsequently during data symbols period in the frequency domain. So we can obtain better quality of the signal at the receiving terminal. In order to secure QoS(Quality of Service) required in T-DMB handsets, we evaluate SNR and BER in T-DMB DOCR(Digital On Channel Repeater) and verified by simulation. In this simulation results, this system is satisfied the performance of BER=$10^{-5}$ at less than SNR=14 dB at the receiver after compensation of phase noise -18 dBc.

  • The performance of underwater acoustic communication system is sensitive to the Doppler shift and ISI(Inter-Symbol Interference). Therefore, the simulation algorithm needs to consider time-spread due to multipath arrivals which cause the ISI, and time-varying Doppler shift along with moving source and receiver. For this purpose, VirTEX(Virtual Time series EXperiment) based on Ray model has been developed. In this paper, VirTEX is used to compare the characteristics of ocean waveguide from the experimental data and illustrate the performance. The CIR(Channel Impulse Response) that characterizes the multipath arrivals with representative time-spread due to multipath arrivals is compared between numerically simulated and experimental probe signal. Also, the communication performance analysis for BER(Bit Error Rate) is compared between numerically simulated and experimental data signal. As a result, VirTEX can be useful as a simulation tool for evaluating the performance of underwater acoustic communication system.
