A study on the improvement of cavitation inception speed for controllable pitch propeller in the actual warship (실선관측에 의한 가변추진기의 캐비테이션 초생속도 향상에 관한 연구)

  • If cavitation occurs in propeller, it generates vibration and noise accordingly which results in low efficiency of propeller. It's important to increase cavitation inception speed(CIS) since the noise of cavitation increases significantly from the beginning of cavitation. This paper describes the result of actual observation and measurement onboard ship with controllable pitch propeller(CPP), so as to verify the first occurrence phenomenon of cavitation. The research suggests new type of controllable pitch propeller with improved CIS at the bolt as it started with bolt cavitation as result of observation. It's not found bolt cavitation on the CPP proposed in this paper, furthermore its CIS is increased approximately by 4.5 knots than the existing CPP. The result of the research can be used for development of low-noise CPP and improving performance of CIS.

Low-noise Design of Passage of Idle Speed Control Actuator In Automotive Engines Using Scaling Laws for Noise Prediction (소음예측 비례식을 이용한 자동차 엔진 공회전 속도 제어 장치 유로의 저소음 설계)

  • Recently, plastic products in air-intake parts of automotive engines have become very popular due to advantages that include reduced weight, constricted cost, and lower intake air temperature. However, flow-induced noise in air-intake parts becomes a more serious problem for plastic intake-manifolds than for conventional aluminum-made manifolds. This is due to the fact that plastic manifolds transmit more noise owing to their lower material density. Internal aerodynamic noise from an idle speed control actuator(ISA) is qualitatively analyzed by using a scaling law, which is expressed with some flow parameters such as pressure drop, maximum flow velocity, and turbulence kinetic energy. First, basic flow characteristics through ISA passage are identified with the flow predictions obtained by applying computational fluid dynamics techniques. Then, the effects on ISA passage noise of each design factors including the duct turning shape and vane geometries are assessed. Based on these results, the preliminary low noise design for the ISA passage are proposed. The current method for the prediction of internal aerodynamic noise consists of the steady CFD and the scaling laws for the noise prediction. This combination is most cost-effective, compared with other methods, and therefore is believed to be suited for the preliminary design tool in the industrial field.

An Experimental Study on the Pump Operating Characteristics with Low Flow Operation (펌프의 저 유량 운전특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • For ASME Code pumps in nuclear power plants, inservice test is required to assess the operational readiness in accordance with ASME code and related regulations. The objective of this study therefore, is to develop the technical background of the degradation of pump performances and conditions due to low flow rate operation. In addition. the detection techniques of pump operating conditions are to be developed to enhance the safety and economy of nuclear power plants. A test loop consisted of pump, motor. water tank, flow rate measurements and piping system with flow control devices was established for this study. Two typical pumps, 1-stage volute pump and 3-stage turbine pump, were selected and the test was performed upon two major point of views ; i.e., pump discharge pressure pulsations analysis and pump vibration spectrum analysis. From the test results, it is concluded that (1) the pump vibration affected by the natural frequency of operating pump is significant in the low frequency zone (around 1 Hz) : the vibration amplitude. especially. is an important factor during low flow rate operation. and shall be monitored to ensure that it is within the limit of ASME OM code Part 6, (2) the vibration frequency and pump discharge pressure are affected by vane pass frequency and running speed, (3) the wave phenomena due to the compressiblity of water is anticipated during low flow rate operation. and the pump system shall be designed to prevent it and. finally, (4) the technical background of the degradation of pump performances and conditions due to low flow rate operation is provided.

A study on the absorption coefficient of an artificial perforated material (인위적 다공물질의 흡음특성 연구)

  • The absorption coefficients of various length bundles of straws simulating perforated material were studied both theoretically and experimentally. For the theoretical predictions Zwikker and Kosten's theory was modified by adapting Biot's theory based on Poiseuille flow. The experimental data were collected using an impedance tube where the attenuation along the length of the tube was considered. The theoretically predicted values agreed very well with the experimentally measured ones for frequencies lower than 700Hz with bundles shorter than 120mm in length placed against the rigid end of the impedance tube. Configurations with an air gap between the end of a bundle and the rigid end were also investigated. Absorption coefficients were higher for 150mm bundles than for those of combined/air gap configurations with a total length of 150mm. Also for the fixed bundle lengths, absorption was found to increase with increasing air gap.

  • For the construction of smart factory that are part of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, data from the production environments and production machines should be collected, analyzed, and feedback should be given to predict when failures take place or parts should be replaced. For this purpose, a system that monitors the production environments and the status of the production machines are required. In this paper, the monitoring system for mobile devices and PC is implemented by collecting environmental data from production sites and sensor data of production machine using LoRa, a low-power wireless communication technology. On the mobile devices, production environments and vibration data can be displayed in real time. In PC monitoring program, sensor data can be displayed graphically to check standard deviation and data variation. The implemented system is used to collect data such as temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure of the production environment, and vibration data of production machines.

  • 복합분자펌프는 기존의 터보분자펌프 turbine blade에 spiral grooved를 추가하여 초고진공(10-8 Pa)에서 저진공(330Pa)까지 넓은 압력범위에서 사용할 수 있고 이 펌프를 사용함으로서 완전 oil free한 진공시스템을 만들 수 있는 특징을 가지고 있다. 특히, 회전체를 비접촉으로 지지하는 자기베어링 방식을 적용함으로써, 진동은 극히 작고 베어링수명은 길면서 중저진공에 대한 배기속도가 크고 임의의 방향으로 접속이 가능하여 반도체 및 디스플레이 제조 공정과 같은 첨단산업의 다양한 분야에 쉽게 적용되고 있으며, 그 적용 분야와 시장은 계속 성장하고 있다. 고 진공과 배기 속도의 달성을 위해서, 고속으로 이동하는 격면과 기체분자를 충돌시켜, 기체 분자를 원하는 방향으로 유도하는 작동원리를 가지고 있다. 특히 공기분자의 밀도가 매우 낮은 희박가스 상태에서 고속 회전하는 blade로 공기분자를 쳐 내면서 작동됨으로써 날개의 상하 압력차에 의한 공기력보다도 날개의 고속회전이 매우 중요시 되고 압력으로는 10-1 Pa 이하의 분자영역에서 그 성능을 최고로 발휘 할 수 있다. 이러한 복합 펌프의 주요 장점은 다음과 같다. 1. 10-8 Pa (10-10torr)~10 Pa (1 torr) 까지 넓은 영역에서 배기가 가능하다. 2. 탄화수계의 대하여 높은 압축특성을 가지고 있고, 윤활유를 사용하지 않으므로 얻을 수 있는 진공상태가 고청정하다(oil free). 3. 정밀 5축제어 자기베어링으로 완전히 부상하여 회전함으로서 마모가 없고 진동이 최소화하였을 뿐만 아니라, 또한 운전음도 거의 없다. 4. 설치조건에 제한이 없고 고장이 거의 없다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 복합분자펌프의 개발을 위하여, 상기 연구기관에서 수행된 내용을 소개하고 있으며, 펌프 시스템의 기본 설계 및 자기베어링 시스템의 설계 결과 및 수치해석 결과를 나타내었다.

Efficiency Test for Low Electric Power Type and MEMS Based 3-axis Accelerometer (저전력 MEMS 기반 3축 가속도계의 성능 시험)

  • In this study, an efficiency test was performed by fabricating MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems) based 3-axis acceleration sensor modules and an earthquake monitoring system was composed. Data acquisition device (NI-9239) with a 24bit ADC (Analog to Digital Converter) was used for improving the performance of 3-axis acceleration sensor modules and filtered data (100Hz Low Pass Filter) was used for reducing noises. Also this paper focused on detecting meaningful vibration in the building by developing the earthquake monitoring software. If vector sum of 3-axis acceleration is greater than the preset value, the value will be recorded and saved to the file.

Low-Power MPPT Interface for Vibration Energy Harvesting Sources (진동 에너지 하베스팅 자원을 위한 저전력 MPPT 인터페이스)

  • In this paper, a low-power MPPT interface circuit for vibration energy harvesting sources is presented. The designed circuit rectifies the harvested ac type energy to the dc type energy required to drive the system, and periodically samples and holds the open circuit voltage (Voc) through the MPPT controller, and transfers the harvested power to the load while maintaining the input voltage at 1/2 of the maximum available power point. All circuits have been designed using a 0.35-um CMOS technology, and the operation has been verified through simulation. Simulation results show that the designed circuit consumes 98nA of current at 3V input voltage and the maximum power efficiency is 99.21%. The designed chip occupies $1.281mm{\times}1.236mm$.

Research Trend and Prospect in Ferromagnetic Superconductor (강자성 초전도체의 연구동향과 전망)

  • The findings of ferromagnetic superconductor have attracted much attention not only for fundamental research to investigate how the antagonistic properties of ferromagnetism and superconductivity coexist peacefully but also for potential technological applications. Firstly, in order to help for understanding the ferromagnetic superconductor, I have explained the orbital and paramagnetic pair-breaking effects of magnetic field, which breaks the superconducting Cooper pairs. In addition to such effects of magnetic field, the singlet Cooper pairs become unstable upon going through the ferromagnetic materials by the proximity effect. The proximity effect occurs at the interface of thin films composing of superconductor and ferromagnet and leads to have very short penetration depth of Cooper pairs. However, a type of odd-frequency triplet in comparison with the singlet could be very stable and has a longer effective depth. It needs to be explored for the innovative spintronic devices. Finally, various ferromagnetic superconductors coexist and the lower-dimensional materials under the Quantum confinement effect have been introduced.

Effects of Combustion Instability by Swirl Intensity in Hybrid Rocket (스월 강도에 따른 하이브리드 로켓의 연소 불안정 영향)

  • The addition of swirl is a common technique used in premixed combustors in order to gain stability of the combustion with the improvements in mixing characteristics. recent experimental studies have observed that the addition of swirl oxidizer flow can effectively reduce the combustion instability in hybrid rocket. Investigation was continued to analyze the effect of the swirl on the internal flow of hybrid rocket engine main combustion chamber. The flow influenced by wall blowing as a representation of fuel evaporation interacts with swirling flow. Swirl angle increases, the amplitude of the combustion pressure decrease as the unstable combustion processes. These results suggest that the oxidizer swirling flow by the swirl angle causes the change of the turbulent flow characteristics inside the combustion chamber and suppresses the factors causing the combustion instability.
