This study was conducted to investigate the effect of climate conditions during cultivation and harvesting on the quality and storability of fresh bulb cabbage (Brassica oleracea L. var. capitata). Plug seedlings of six cabbage cultivars were transplanted to Gangneung-Wonju University high elevation research station in Gangwon province (780 m above sea level, lat. $37.5^{\circ}N$.) and harvested with four different harvest times like August 3 ($1^{st}$), August 13 ($2^{nd}$), August 23 ($3^{rd}$), and September 10 ($4^{th}$), respectively from 50 days after transplanting. Weight loss, Hunter color factors, firmness, and soluble solids content (SSC) of the cabbage bulbs were investigated during storage at $3^{\circ}C$ (85% RH) and $25^{\circ}C$ (60% RH). Decreased bulb weight and poor quality cabbages were apparent at the late transplanting (July 14) and harvest (September 10) respectively. Quality index such as firmness and SSC at August 23 ($3^{rd}$) harvested cabbage was better than August 3 ($1^{st}$) and August 13 ($2^{nd}$) cabbages due to the good weather condition just before harvesting. The cv. 'Speed king' and 'Minix 40' showed good qualities among the cultivars, especially when the bulbs were harvested during sunny day conditions from one week before harvesting. Also SSC was influenced by weather condition before harvesting rather than transplanting date, while firmness was influenced by transplanting and harvest date. However, the differences among the cultivars were not significant. The potential of storage as maintaining the quality was different, depending on weather conditions at harvest time. Generally the storage periods of six cultivars were around 3~5 days and 9~10 days at room and low temperature, respectively. However, the August 3 ($1^{st}$) harvested cabbage lost their marketable quality very fast because of rainy and cloudy weather condition before harvesting and also storability of bulbs was 2 days and 4 days at room temperature and $3^{\circ}C$, respectively. Quality index was also not significant difference among cultivars.
These studies were carried out to find the effect of packing materials and storage temperature to enhance the storability of Salicornia europaea. The fresh weight loss was less than 2% at below $10^{\circ}C$ and non-perforated package, but $25^{\circ}C$ and perforated package treatment showed more than 4% of fresh weight loss that result to deteriorate quality. The carbon dioxide and oxygen contents remained 1~2% and above 15% in non-perforated package, and these contents were in proportion to gas permeability of packing materials. All the temperature treatments except 25c showed rapidly increasing ethylene concent from 7days after storage, and the highest ethylene content was $2^{\circ}C$ treatment that should appear chilling injury. The off-odor and deterioration ratio were lowest in $5^{\circ}C$ among the temperature treatments and $50{\mu}m$ thickness ceramic film treatment at $5^{\circ}C$ storage, while packing materials did not show any trends among the temperature treatments. The shelf life based on visual quality showed highest in $50{\ss}|$ thickness ceramic film packing and $5^{\circ}C$ treatment, and that was 28days.
This study is conducted in order to select the varieties that can supplement problems related with organic cultivation of bulb onion (Allium cepa L.). 15 test varieties were selected considering rural preference, breeding line, breeding company, open-pollinated cultivar, F1 hybrid cultivar of either domestic or foreign products. Onion varieties were assessed in 5 criteria which are : growth of plants in low temperature, freezing injury resistance, resistance to physiological disorder such as bolting and doubled bulb, lodging index during harvest, and marketable yield. As a result, e-Joeun, Katamaru, Pop, Art, Singihan among F1 hybrid cultivars and Changnyeongdaego, Seouldaego, and Chunjujunggo among open-pollinated cultivars were selected as more suitable varieties for the organic cultivation. Although Sunpower cannot be selected in varieties those are suitable for organic cultivation, it showed excellent traits in the bulb characteristics. No significant differences were found between open-pollinated cultivar and F1 hybrid cultivar except growth of plants in low temperature (plant sheath diameter) and lodging index during harvest (May 24th). And no significant differences were recognized between domestic varieties and foreign varieties except missing plant ratio after wintering.

Oriental melon ($Cucumis$$melo$ var. $makuwa$) is a popular and high-value market fruit cultivated in Korea. Consumers are becoming increasingly interested in oriental melon as a healthy diet over the past few years. However, the melons have relatively high quality loss because the fruit are mainly produced for a limited period of time in the summer season. Lack of the proper postharvest treatments and high temperature exposure at harvest or during distribution are the most critical environmental factors limiting postharvest life of fruit. This review focuses on the overview of current research studies for postharvest treatment and functional packaging technology of oriental melon in Korea. Major physiological problems of the harvest fruit include the ripening process in quality changes of the produce such as loss of weight, firmness, flavor, and decay during the storage periods. Low temperature at 7 to $10^{\circ}C$ with high relative humidity of 90 to 95% is the suitable environmental condition used to maintain the quality of fresh oriental melon. Controlled atmosphere (CA) storage or modified atmosphere (MA) packaging can be used as supplemental treatments to extend postharvest-life. For oriental melon, an optimum CA is currently recommended to be 2-3% oxygen and 5-10% carbon dioxide atmosphere. Precooling, pretreatments of ethylene action and functional packaging system can be applied to oriental melon after harvest in order to extend storage life. Major active packaging technologies are concerned with a selectively gas permeable film related to respiration of produce and the packaging applications of ethylene removal, antimicrobial, and antifogging substances to keep the effective freshness of fruit.
Fresh jujubes (Zizyphus jujuba Miller) of whitish green and red ripe maturities were stored at 5 different temperatures, and quality changes through the storage were measured to find an optimal storage condition. Respiration rates and their temperature dependences for both maturities were not different from each other, which suggested non-climacteric pattern of postharvest respiration. Red ripe fruits showed heavier weight and higher content in soluble solid and ascrobic acid compared with whitish green mature fruits. Through the storage of jujubes in perforated packages tissue softening and decay were main visual quality deteriorations with the former preceding the latter. The whitish green mature jujubes showed slower rate of quality changes in softening and decay than red ripe ones, and are thus more suitable for long term storage. In the storage, the whitish green fruits changed into red color, and showed increase in soluble solid and decrease in acidity and ascorbic acid content. Storing the jujubes at $-2^{\circ}C$ resulted in symptoms of chilling injury, and storing at higher temperatures above $0^{\circ}C$ accelerated the decay and softening. $0^{\circ}C$ was found to be optimal temperature for long term storage, where jujube had the lowest rate of quality changes without chilling injury. Even at optimal temperature of $0^{\circ}C$, however, storage life retaining freshness was only around 40 days which is not enough.

In order to predict the risk of freeze injury for 'Changhowon Hwangdo' peach trees, we used the dormancy depth (i.e., the daily chill unit accumulation during the overwintering period) as a proxy for the short-term, physiological tolerance to freezing temperatures. A Chill-days model was employed and its parameters such as base temperature and chilling requirement were optimized for peach trees based on the 12 observational experiments during the 2008-2009 winter. The model predicted the flowering dates much closer to the observations than other models without considering dormancy depth, showing the strength of employing dormancy depth into consideration. To derive empirical equations for calculating the probabilistic freeze risk, the dormancy depth was then combined with the browning ratio and the budburst ratio of frozen peach fruit branches. Given the exact date and the predicted minimum temperature, the equations calculate the probability of freeze damages such as a failure in budburst or tissue browning. This method of employing dormancy depth in addition to freezing temperature would be useful in locating in advance the risky areas of freezing injury for peach trees production under the projected climate change.
Ni-Cu-Zn ferrites were prepared by the co-precipitation and ferrite microwave absorbers on low temperature sintering were investigated in this work. The properties of its microwave absorbing and physical were analyzed into variations of Ni addition, calcination temperature, sintering temperature. From the analysis of X-ray diffraction patterns, we can see that all the particles have only a single phase spinel structure. In addition, the powders particle size distribution obtained the nano size. By increasing the Ni additive, the permeability of the powders was decreased and the loss factor increased at sintering temperature $1100^{\circ}C$. Also, we considered that it can used high frequency rage. We found that the $(Ni_{0.7}Cu_{0.2}Zn_{0.1}O)_{1.02}(Fe_{2}O_3)_{0.98}$ appeared microwave absorbing properties better than other composition.
Fuel cell performance evaluation logic was developed using G-language (LabVIEW) to measure performance stability. Degree of stability and reliability of performance data were improved with averaged value and standard deviation method. Water injection system was introduced and the performance using this method was comparable to that of conventional humidification method. Water injection system has advantage of lowering operation energy consumption, reducing the number of parts needed in humidification, therefore increasing efficiency of fuel cell system. Fuel cell performance was decreased in case of low temperature operation such as sub freezing condition. Air purge method was tested to reduce the water content in cell fixture before sub freezing condition. The performance degradation due to low temperature operation was minimized by air purge method in medium size cell fixture ($25cm^2$) case.
The molar ratio of sterol to phospholipid differed from yeast strains, and the ratio was relatively higher in non-freeze-tolerant yeast strain, S. cerevisiae than freeze-tolerant yeast strains, D$\sub$2-4/ or CFY. Phospholipid composition of these yeast were also investigated. Phosphatidylcholine content was larger among phospholipids in all yeasts. Higher ratio of PC/PE was found in freeze-tolerant yeast than non-freeze-tolerant yeast. Higher proportion of linolein acid(18 : 2) against total fatty acid attached to phospholipid was observed in D$\sub$2-4/ than S. cerevisiae or CFY, and the degree of unsaturation of fatty acid was higher in D$\sub$2-4/ and CFY than in S. cerevisiae. These results suggested that the fluidity of yeast cell membrane was different in yeast strains, which might result in the difference in freeze-injury of yeast at low temperatures.
Current status on consumption and packaging of sweet persimmons in USA was surveyed by visiting the market, and three sea shipments were conducted as model export trial from Korean to USA with measurement in ship container temperature and fruit quality. Strategy to promote the export of Korean persimmons was derived. There have been gradual decrease in the price of persimmons due to their increases production, but there seems potential growth in consumption of the fruits from Asian, Hispanic and American people. Compared to the fruits from other countries, Korean persimmons are desired to have higher soluble solid content with stronger red color, but too large sizes are not favored in American market. There has often been temperature fluctuation in shipment container during the sea transport to USA, resulting in surface blackening, skin black spotting and flesh softening. Plastic bag packages with inappropriate unitizing crimping were found to sometimes build up unproper modified atmosphere (high $O_2$ and low $CO_2$) giving high rate of physiological injury.
