A Study on the Thermal Flow of Waste Heat Recovery Unit (WHRU) for Ship's Organic Rankine Cycle Power Generation System using CFD Method (CFD를 활용한 선박고온도차발전용 WHRU의 열유동 해석에 관한 연구)

  • The IMO (International Maritime Organization) is discussing the improvement of energy ef iciency of ships in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from ships. Currently, by applying an ORC power generation system using waste heat generated from ships, high energy conversion efficiency can be expected from ships. This technology uses an organic medium based on Freon or hydrocarbons as the working fluid, which evaporates at a lower temperature range than water. Through this, it is possible to generate steam (gas) and generate power at a low and low temperature relatively. In this study, the analysis of heat flow between the refrigerant and waste heat in the ORC power generation system, which is an organic Rankine cycle, is analyzed using 3D simulation techniques to determine the temperature change, velocity change, pressure change, and mass change of the fluid flowing of the WHRU (Waste Heat Recovery Unit) inside and the outside the structure. The purpose of this study is to analyze how the mass change affects the structure, and this study analyzed the heat transfer of the heat exchanger from the refrigerant and the exhaust gas of the ship's main engine in the ORC power generation system using this technique.

Study on Characteristic of CO2 Hydrate Formation Using Micro-sized Ice (미세직경 얼음을 이용한 CO2 하이드레이트 제조특성 연구)

  • Gas hydrate is an inclusion compound consisting of water and low molecular weight gases, which are incorporated into the lattice structure of water. Owing to its promising aspect to application technologies, gas hydrate has been widely studied recently, especially $CO_2$ hydrate for the CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) issue. The key point of $CO_2$ hydrate technology for the CCS is how to produce gas hydrate in an efficient and economic way. In this study, we have tried to study the characteristic of gas hydrate formation using micro-sized ice through an ultrasonic nozzle which generate 2.4 MHz frequency wave. $CO_2$ as a carrier gas brings micro-sized mist into low-temperature reactor, where the mist and carrier gas forms $CO_2$ hydrate under $-55^{\circ}C$ and atmospheric pressure condition and some part of the mist also remains unreacted micro-sized ice. Formed gas hydrate was average 10.7 of diameter at average. The starting ice particle was set to constant pressure to form $CO_2$ hydrate and the consumed amount of $CO_2$ gas was simultaneously measured to calculate the conversion of ice into gas hydrate. Results showed that the gas hydrate formation was highly suitable because of its extremely high gas-solid contact area, and the formation rate was also very high. Self-preservation effect of $CO_2$ hydrate was confirmed by the measurement of $CO_2$ hydrate powder at normal and at pressed state, which resulted that this kind of gas storage and transport could be feasible using $CO_2$ hydrate formation.

Storage Quality of Ready-to-Eat Campbell Table Grapes as Affected by Active Modified Atmosphere Packaging (기체충진 포장조건에 따른 신선편이 캠벨 포도의 저장 중 품질변화)

  • The storage quality of ready-to-eat Campbell table grapes which were packaged under modified atmospheres was investigated in order to examine the effect of high $O_2$ and $CO_2$ on the fruit. Fresh table grapes with 10-15 berries were packed into polypropylene (PP) trays and were top-sealed with polythylene terephthalate/PP film. The initial gas compositions inside the packages were air, 20% $O_2$/10% $CO_2$/70% $N_2$, and 40% $O_2$/60% $N_2$. Sealed packages with low density polyethylene film bags and perforated PP trays were also used as a further treatment and control, respectively. The quality attributes were assessed during storage at $5^{\circ}C$ for 28 days. Fruit packaged in high $CO_2$ concentration showed the lowest viable cell counts of inherent microorganisms among all samples, although they suffered from severe off-flavors. High levels of $O_2$ significantly lowered flesh weight loss and maintained the flavor of grape. In an overall sensory aspect, the high $O_2$ and $CO_2$ packages exhibited greater scores than the air and control at the end of the storage period. Other quality attributes showed no significant differences among treatments. Results suggest that packaging with an appropriate combination of high $O_2$ and $CO_2$ can be used as an effective processing treatment for improvement of the storability of ready-to-eat table grapes.

Minimum Weight Design for Web Frames of Cargo Tanks in the LPG Carrier (LPG 운반선 화물창의 웨브 프레임 최소중량설계)

  • Generally, the cargo tank of LPG carriers corresponds to an independent tank Type A defined by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The outside of the tank is insulated by polyurethane foam, and the tank is made of expensive low temperature steel that can withstand temperatures as low as -50℃. The cargo tank is composed of outer shell plates, bulkheads, stiffeners, web frames, and stringers. Among them, the outer shell plates, bulkheads, and stiffeners can be designed without structural analysis by the Classification Rules and are constructed easily through optimal design. On the other hand, optimal design, including numerous structural analysis, is not performed because web frames and stringers should be designed and approved through structural analysis. Only adequate design, which determines the design dimensions through several dozen structural analysis, is performed. In this study, for finite element analysis, eight loading conditions were applied, and the deformation of the entire ship for each loading condition was considered. The minimum weight design was performed for the web frames of cargo tanks in the 82,000 ㎥ LNG carrier through the gradient-based optimization technique, and the weight was reduced by approximately 108 tons per ship.

  • Natural gas in deep sediment may occur in three phases based on the physical and chemical conditions. If the concentration of gas in pore water is less than the solubility, gas is dissolved. If the concentration of gas is greater than its solubility (water is saturated or supersaturated with gas), gas occurs as a fee gas below the gas hydrate stability Lone (GHSZ) and is present as solid hydrate within the GHSZ. The knowledge of gas concentration in deep sediment appears critical to determine the phase of natural gases and to understand the formation and distribution of gas hydrate. However, reliable data on gas concentration are usually available only from the upper section of marine sediment by the headspace gas technique, which is widely used for sampling of gases from the sediments. The headspace gas technique represents only a fraction of gases present in situ because sediments release most of the gases during recovery and sampling. The PCS (Pressure Core Sampler) is a downhole tool developed to recover a nominal $1{\cal}m$ long, $4.32{\cal}cm$ diameter core containing $1,465cm^3$ of sediment, pore water and gas at in situ pressure up to 68.9 MPa. During Leg 204, the PCS was deployed at 6 Sites. In situ methane gas concentration and distribution of gas hydrate was measured by using PCS tool. Characteristics of methane concentration and distribution is different from site to site. Distribution of gas hydrate in the study area is closely related to characteristics of in situ gas concentration measured by PCS.

Spin-FET를 위한 InP 및 InAs/AlSb기반의 2DEG HEMT 소자의 전/자기적 특성과 GaAs기판에 성장된 InSb의 Doping 평가

  • 반도체의 성능은 최근 10년 사이에 급격하게 발전했고 아날로그 및 디지털 회로 소자들에 있어 저전력/고속 특성 요구가 커지고 있다 [1]. 상온에서 30,000 $cm^2$/Vs 이상의 전자 이동도를 가지며 큰 conduction band offset을 갖는 InAs/AlSb 2차원전자가스(2DEG) 소자는 Spinorbit-interaction의 값이 매우 커서 SPIN-FET 소자로 크게 주목받고 있다 [2]. 본 발표자들은 GaAs 기판위에 성장한 InAs 2DEG HEMT 소자의 전/자기적인 특성과 고속반응 물질로 주목 받는 InSb 박막소자의 doping 특성에 따른 전기적/물리적인 특성의 평가에 대해 그 결과를 소개하고자 한다. 격자정합과 Semi-insulating 기판의 부재로 상용화되어 있는 GaAs와 InP 기판위에 물질차이에 따른 고유의 한계 특성을 줄이기 위한 Pseudomorphic이라 불리는 특별한 박막 성장 기법을 적용하여 높은 전자 이동도를 가지며 spin length가 길어 Spin-FET로서 크게 주목받고 있는 InAs 2DEG HEMT 소자를 완성시켰다. 60,000 ($cm^2$/Vs) 이상의 높은 전자 이동도를 갖는 소자의 구현을 목표로 연구를 진행하였으며 1.8 K에서 측정된 Spin-orbit interaction의 값은 6.3e-12 (eVm)이다. InAs/InGaAs/InAlAs 및 InGaAs/InAlAs 구조의 InP 기반의 소자에서 보다 큰 값으로 향후 Spin-FET 응용에 크게 기대하고 있다. 또한, GaAs 기판위에 구현된 InSb 소자는 격자부정합 감소를 위해 InAs 양자점을 사용하여 약 $2.6{\mu}m$ 두께로 구현된 InSb 박막 소자는 상온에서 약 60,400 ($cm^2$/Vs)의 상온 전자이동도를 보였으며 현재 동일 두께에서 세계 최고결과(~50,000 $cm^2$/Vs)에 비해 월등하게 높은 값을 보이고 있다. Hall bar pattern 공정을 거쳐 완성된 소자는 측정 결과 10~20% 이상 향상된 전자 이동도를 보였다. 2e18/$cm^3$ 미만의 p-doping의 경우, 상온에서 n-type 특성을 보이나, 저온에서 p-type으로 변하는 특성을 보였고 n-doping의 경우 5e17/$cm^3$까지는 전자 이동도만 감소하고, doping에 의한 효과는 크게 없었다. 1e18/$cm^3$의 높은 doping을 할 경우 carrier가 증가하는 것을 확인했다. 이상의 측정 결과로 Spin-FET 소자로서 아주 우수하다는 것을 확인할 수 있었고 n-/p- type이 특성을 고려한 high quality InSb 박막소자의 응용을 위한 중요한 정보를 얻을 수 있었다.

Storage Quality of Sulhyang Strawberries as Affected by High O2 Atmosphere Packaging (고산소 환경기체조절 포장조건에 따른 설향 딸기의 저장 중 품질변화)

  • The storage quality of fresh Sulhyang strawberries packaged under modified atmospheres was investigated to examine the effect of high $O_2$ on the fruit. Fresh strawberries were packed into PP trays and top-sealed with PET/PP film. Initial gas compositions inside the packages were varied with air, 40% $O_2$/60% $N_2$, 60% $O_2$/40% $N_2$, and 80% $O_2$/20% $N_2$. Sealed packages in PE film bags with air and perforated PP trays were also used as another treatment and control, respectively. Quality attributes and viable cell counts of pathogenic bacteria were assessed during storage at $5^{\circ}C$ for 12 days. High $O_2$ concentration showed no significant effects on the physicochemical and microbial qualities of strawberries. Fruit packaged in PE film bags with 6-15% $O_2$ and 7-9% $CO_2$ during storage had the lowest viable cell counts of inherent microorganisms among the treatment samples. Growth of pathogenic bacteria was suppressed in perforated packages where molds occurred frequently. In an overall sensory aspect, the PE film packages exhibited higher scores than the others at the end of storage period. The experimental results suggested that gas-permeable film packaging with an appropriate combination of $O_2$ and $CO_2$ rather than gas-barrier tray packaging with an initially high $O_2$ concentration would be suitable for improving the storability of strawberries.

Acrosome staining with Coomassie brilliant blue G or R on the horse spermatozoa (Coomassie brilliant blue G 및 R을 이용한 말 정액 첨체 염색 기법)

  • To develop simple acrosome staining of horse spermatozoa, this study tested the binding properties of Coomassie brilliant blue G or R on the sperm smears after 3.7% paraformaldehyde (PF) or 35% methanol (MT) fixation. After being fixed with PF and stained with 0.05, 0.1, or 0.2 % of CBB G or R for 2 min, horse spermatozoa were examined for their intact acrosome status. The intact acrosome of fresh horse spermatozoa were 62.6% and 61.5% with 0.05% of the G and R CBB solution, but 80.2 and 79.7% with G type and 78.1 and 76.0% with R type. On the other hand, when MT was used for fixation, the acrosome reacting sperm ratio was 3.5%, but was 9.0% in the case of PF. These results show that the intact acrosome of horse sperm could be judged using a 0.1~0.2% CBB G or R staining technique. PF would be an essential fixative for examining acrosome reacting horse spermatozoa. This method could be used to identify sperm with a damaged acrosome during low-temperature storage or cryopreservation for artificial insemination of horses.

Effect of Maturity and Storage Temperature on Preservation of Fresh Jujube (숙도 및 저장온도가 생대추의 저장적성에 미치는 영향)

  • Fresh jujubes (Zizyphus jujuba Miller) of whitish green and red ripe maturities were stored at 5 different temperatures, and quality changes through the storage were measured to find an optimal storage condition. Respiration rates and their temperature dependences for both maturities were not different from each other, which suggested non-climacteric pattern of postharvest respiration. Red ripe fruits showed heavier weight and higher content in soluble solid and ascrobic acid compared with whitish green mature fruits. Through the storage of jujubes in perforated packages tissue softening and decay were main visual quality deteriorations with the former preceding the latter. The whitish green mature jujubes showed slower rate of quality changes in softening and decay than red ripe ones, and are thus more suitable for long term storage. In the storage, the whitish green fruits changed into red color, and showed increase in soluble solid and decrease in acidity and ascorbic acid content. Storing the jujubes at $-2^{\circ}C$ resulted in symptoms of chilling injury, and storing at higher temperatures above $0^{\circ}C$ accelerated the decay and softening. $0^{\circ}C$ was found to be optimal temperature for long term storage, where jujube had the lowest rate of quality changes without chilling injury. Even at optimal temperature of $0^{\circ}C$, however, storage life retaining freshness was only around 40 days which is not enough.

A Study on Chemical Composition and Firing Temperature of White Wares from the Guyre-2ri Kiln Sites, Wonju (원주 귀래2리 가마터 출토 백자의 화학조성과 소성온도 연구)

  • This study aims to examine production technique of white wares from the Guyre-2ri 1st and 2nd kiln sites, Wonju, Gangwon Province and characteristics of the used materials, and to find a correlation among materials of the excavated white wares. X-ray fluorescence sequential spectroscopy(XRF), X-ray diffraction(XRD), Dilatometer and Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(ICP-MS), Inductively coupled plasma automic emission spectrometer(ICP-AES) were applied to determine the chemical composition, crystalline phase of samples, firing temperatures, trace elements and rare earth elements. White wares from the Guyre-2ri kiln sites contained high contents of coloring oxides and fluxes. Though firing temperature of each sample was different, they were mostly fired at a temperature below $1200^{\circ}C$ and some of them experienced a low temperature of $1000^{\circ}C{\pm}20^{\circ}C$ and a high temperature above $1200^{\circ}C$. When analyzing body crystalline phases of the white wares using the XRD method, quartz and mullite were extracted from all the samples, and the proportions were similar to each other. When analyzing the excavated white wares using the Seger formula, also, all the samples showed similar clay sources and production techniques. Moreover, the white wares were made of host rocks of the same geological origin, according to the result of rare earth elements analysis.
