Ethernet passive optical network (EPON) has drawn many attention as a promising access network technology because it can provide a high bandwidth with a low cost. Since the uplink in the EPON system is shared by many users, it is necessary for an EPON system to have an efficient bandwidth allocation mechanism. In addition, as the users demand more QoS-oriented applications, it is necessary for an EPON system to have an efficient mechanism supporting QoS. In this paper, we propose a variable window dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) algorithm for the EPON system. Unlike the previously proposed DBA algorithms, the variable window algorithm guarantees the QoS for the highest priority class, and at the same time provides more enhanced QoS for the lower priority classes by dynamically allocating bandwidth if necessary. It is verified through the simulations that the variable window algorithm can provide more enhanced QoS performance than other DBA algorithms.
Livestock behavioral analysis is a factor that has a great influence on livestock health management and agricultural productivity increase. However, most digital devices introduced for behavioral analysis of livestock do not provide raw data and also provide limited analysis results. Such a closed system makes it more difficult to integrate data and build big data, which are essential for the introduction of advanced IT technologies. Therefore, it is necessary to supply farm-scale data collection devices that can be easily used at low cost. This study presents a data collection system for analyzing the behavior of livestock. The system consists of a number of miniature computing units that operate wirelessly, and collects livestock body temperature and acceleration data, location information, and livestock environment data. In addition, this study presents an algorithm for estimating the behavior of livestock based on the collected acceleration data. For the experiment, a system was built in a Korean cattle farm in Icheon, Gyeonggi-do, and data were collected for 20 Korean cattle, and based on this, the empirical and analysis results were presented.

Direct printing technology is an attractive metallization method, which has become immerging as "Green technology" to the conventional photolithography, on account of low cost, simple process and environment-friendliness. In order to commercialize the printed electronics in industry, it is essential to evaluate the electrical properties of conductive circuits using direct printing technology. In this contribution, we focused on the electrical characteristics of inkjet-printed circuits. A Cu nanoink was inkjet-printed onto a Bisaleimide triazine(BT) substrate with parallel transmission line(PTL) and coplanar waveguide(CPW) type, then was sintered at $250^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. We calculated the resistivity of printed circuits through direct current resistance by the measurement of I-V curve: the resistivity was approximately 0.558 ${\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ which is about 3.3 times that of bulk Cu. Cascade's probe system in the frequency range from 0 to 30 GHz were employed to measure the Scattering parameter(S-parameter) with or without a gap between the substrate and the probe station chuck. The result of measured S-parameter showed that all printed circuits had over 5 dB of return loss in the entire frequency range. In the curve of insertion loss, $S_{21}$, showed that the PTL type circuits had better transmission of radio frequency (RF) than CPW type.
KISTI-ACOMS ver. 2.0 has been distributed to more than 340 academic societies and used by more than 130 academic societies for 4 years since 2005 and still is desired for use by lots of other academic societies. But contrary to the desire and requests for system upgrades of academic societies, ACOMS has not been improved for last 3 years and some academic societies began to use domestic or foreign similar pay online peer review systems. In this paper, a new integrated portal service system is suggested in order to attempt national production cost-saving and quality improvement of academic information by creating and collecting high quality scientific and technologic academic information inexpensively. We come up with methodology of integration and utilization of a personal academic activity portal system interoperable with other services of KISTI, an open citation reference database automatically constructed by authors' activity and a journal evaluation system based on impact factor.
Biomass has become a major feedstock for bioenergy and other bio-based products because of its renewability and environmental benefits. Various researches have been done in the prediction of crucial characteristics of biomass, including the active utilization of spectroscopy data. Near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy has been widely used because of its attractive features: it's non-destructive and cost-effective producing fast and reliable analysis results. This work developed the multivariate statistical scheme for predicting weight loss profiles based on the utilization of NIR spectra data measured for six lignocellulosic biomass types. Wavelet analysis was used as a compression tool to suppress irrelevant noise and to select features or wavelengths that better explain NIR data. The developed scheme was demonstrated using real NIR data sets, in which different prediction models were evaluated in terms of prediction performance. In addition, the benefits of using right pretreatment of NIR spectra were also given. In our case, it turned out that compression of high-dimensional NIR spectra by wavelet and then PLS modeling yielded more reliable prediction results without handling full set of noisy data. This work showed that the developed scheme can be easily applied for rapid analysis of biomass.

In the current era of the global mobile smart device revolution, electronic devices are required in all spaces that people interact with. The establishment of the internet of things (IoT) among smart devices has been recognized as a crucial objective to advance towards creating a comfortable and sustainable future society. In-mold electronic (IME) processes have gained significant industrial significance due to their ability to utilize conventional high-volume methods, which involve printing functional inks on 2D substrates, thermoforming them into 3D shapes, and injection-molded, manufacturing low-cost, lightweight, and functional components or devices. In this article, we provide an overview of IME and its latest advances in application. We review biomimetic nanomaterials for constructing self-supporting biosensor electronic materials on the body, energy storage devices, self-powered devices, and bio-monitoring technology from the perspective of in-mold electronic devices. We anticipate that IME device technology will play a critical role in establishing a human-machine interface (HMI) by converging with the rapidly growing flexible printed electronics technology, which is an integral component of the fourth industrial revolution.

Digital manufacturing (DM) technology helps engineers design products promptly and reliably at low production cost by simulating a manufacturing process and the material behavior of a product in use, based on three-dimensional digital modeling. The computing infrastructure for digital manufacturing, however, is usually expensive and, at present, the number of professional design engineers who can take advantage of this technology to a product design accurately is insufficient, particularly in small and medium manufacturing companies. Considering this, the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) and H University is operating a DM track in the form of Industry-University-Research Institute collaboration to train high-performance-computing-based DM professionals. In this paper, a series of courses to train students to work directly into DM practice in industry after graduation is reported. The operating cases of the DM track for two years since 2013 are presented by focusing on the progress in establishment, lecture and practice contents, evaluation of students, and course quality improvement. Overall, the track management, curriculum management, learning achievement of students have been successful. By expediting more active participation of the students in the track and providing more internship and job offers in the participating companies in addition to collaborative capstone design projects, the track can be expanded by fostering a nationwide training network.

The recent dissemination of cloud computing makes the amount of data storage to be increased and the cost of storing the data grow rapidly. Accordingly, data and service requests from users also increases the load on the cloud storage. There have been many works that tries to provide low-cost and high-performance schemes on distributed file systems. However, most of them have some weaknesses on performing parallel and random data accesses as well as data accesses of frequent small workloads. Recently, improving the performance of distributed file system based on caching technology is getting much attention. In this paper, we propose a CHPC(Cloud storage High-Performance Caching) framework, providing parallel caching, distributed caching, and proxy caching in distributed file systems. This study compares the proposed framework with existing cloud systems in regard to the reduction of the server's disk I/O, prevention of the server-side bottleneck, deduplication of the page caches in each client, and improvement of overall IOPS. As a results, we show some optimization possibilities on the cloud storage systems based on some evaluations and comparisons with other conventional methods.
Given a set of DNA read sequences, de novo sequence assembly reconstructs a target sequence without a reference sequence. For reconstruction, the assembly needs the overlap phase, which computes all overlaps between every pair of reads. Since the overlap phase is the most time-consuming part of the whole assembly, the performance of the assembly depends on that of the overlap phase. There have been extensive studies on the overlap phase in various fields. Among them, three state-of-the-art results for the overlap phase are Readjoiner, SOF, and Lim-Park algorithm. Recently, a rapid development of sequencing technology has made it possible to produce a large read dataset at a low cost, and many platforms for generating a DNA read dataset have been developed. Since the platforms produce datasets with different statistical characteristics, a performance evaluation for the overlap phase should consider datasets with these characteristics. In this paper, we compare and analyze the performances of the three algorithms with various large datasets.

Recently, the industrial field has been changed to the smart factory system based on information and communication technology (ICT) in order to improve productivity, quality and customer satisfaction. The most important machine to realize the smart factory is the AGV(automatic guided vehicle) and the adoption of AGV is increasing. Generally, AGV is developed using general purpose PLC(Programmable Logic controller), but the price of AGV is expensive and its volume is large. On the other hand, the industrial field due to space constraints in the workplace is required the low cost AGV which can be minimization, expansion of function, and easily reconfiguration. Therefore, in order to solve these problems, this study is proposed a design method of AGV controller with built-in PLC, and evaluated its performance. In the results of the experimentation, it showed good performance (speed control error = 0.021[m/s], posture control error=2.1[mm]) for the speed and posture control. In this way, when applying the proposed AGV controller in this study to the industrial filed, it is possible to reduce the size and reconfigure at low cost.
