  • This Paper aims to explore the socio-spatial implication of urban policy dialectic. The urban policies to solve various social problems are definitely related to the spatial situation of his society. In France there have been several kinds of urban policies to meet 'social exclusion' as new concept of poverty. To fix 'ZUS(Zones Urbaines Sensibles), being based on the 'Pacte do relance pour la ville' of 1996, is one of them. It makes a conclusion in this paper that the purposeful zoning by urban policy to meet social exclusion can lead to deepen them. The situation of social exclusion in ZUS is related to the spatial exclusion by zoning marginal areas. To define the key concepts of 'social exclusion' and 'ZUS' is absolutely needed to accomplish the purpose of this study.

  • This study explores the geographic characteristics of Hutong(alleyways) in Beijing. The word 'Hutong' originated from the Mongolian language, pronounced 'hottog' and meaning 'well'. In ancient times, people tended to gather and live around wells. After liberation, Beijing witnessed a rapid development in urban construction. A large number of residential areas were established and the number of alleyways in the city increased to over 6,000 from about 3,000 before liberation. In recent years, with the city's further modernization, more and more tall buildings have appeared in Beijing while the number of alleyways has been decreasing. 'Siheyuans(quadrangles)' are buildings with unique architectural features in Beijing's alleyways. In recent year, Siheyuans are changing to guesthouses, shops, bars, souvenir shops, restaurants and so on. Especially Nanluoguxiang(alleyway) is becoming an attractive area for tourism and cultural creativity in the ancient capital Beijing. Since 1990, 25 Hutong districts are protected for historical preservation by the Beijing Municipal Government.

  • The aim of this article is to introduce articles of the special issue on 'Revitalization Conditions on Crisis on Industrial Regions: Experience from Europe and the Republic of Korea, and to explore policy alternatives to crisis on industrial regions on the basis of policy diagnoses and prescriptions. In the existing research, diagnoses of such Korean regions are quantitatively focused upon industry, employment, plant, consumption, investment, real estate, and labour market, and are qualitatively based upon external environment and functional, structural and spatial characteristics. Prescriptions of such regions emphasize the establishment of a law and an institutional fix, financial supports, jobs' creation, industrial diversification, the intensification of urban foundation throughout the urban revitalizaion. In the policy development for these regions, it is required to link the industrial sector to social, educational, political and welfare sectors, and furthermore the collaboration of inter- and intra-ministry and the active participation of provincial and local governments are needed.

  • Lab-scale trickling bioreactor(TBR) containing the biofilm of Pseudomonas cepacia G4 was developed for the treatment of trichloroethylene(TCE) in a waste gas stream. The effect of phenol feeding on the efficiency of TCE biodegadation in TBR was investigated with the change of inlet phenol concentration from 0 to 4.71 ppm. When 0.94 ppm of phenol was supplied, the best performance of TBR was maintained with the TCE removal efficiency of 58.1%. These results showed that the appropriate supply of phenol could stimulate TCE removal efficiency in TBR.

  • The purpose of this paper is to make a careful study on the characterization of information science and to describe the scientific basis for the revitalization. At first, various theoretic models in initial stage and later tendency of infor mation science are analyzed and evaluated. After that the dilemma and nature of information science as a postmodem science are investigated. Upon the results of these analysis and investigation, the new reference points of information science are presented from the strategic, theory-immanant, and methodological aspects.

  • Inactivation and reactivation of photosynthetic oxygen evolving complex were studied with isolated spinach (Spinacia oleraceda. L.) photosystem II particles by the activity of oxygen evolution and chlorophyll fluorescence. When the particles were treated with Tris and urea, the oxygen evolution was inactivated and three polypeptides having molecular weights of 33 kDa, 24 kDa and 18 kDa were simultaneously released. But in NaCl-treated particles, two polypeptides of 24 kDa and 18 kDa were removed from PS II particles. The oxygen evolution activities of Tris and urea-treated particles were not restored by adding cation ions (Mg2+, Mn2+ and Ca2+), but the NaCl-treated particles were restored by exogenously added Ca2+. The removal of these extrinsic polypeptides, especially 33 kDa, markedly showed the decrease of the variable fluorescence (Fv). These results are likely to be due to dissipate thermal energy by antenna of photosystem II complexes.

  • Factors affecting thermal inactivation and reactivation of korean radish peroxidase were inves-tigated,. The enzyme was stable below pH4.0 and above pH 8.0 The thermostablity of the enzyme was increased by addition of glucose sodium chloride and albuminl The inactivated enzyme by heat treatment was reactivated at room temperaturem The optimal pH for reactivation of the enzyme was pH of 9.0 The reactivation rate of the enyme was not afected by addition of glucose sodium chloride and albumin, The reactivation was completely inhibited by addition of sulfhydryl reagent such as dithiothreitol.

  • This paper suggests some strategies for the regional regeneration of Dongincheon Railway station and surrounding area. One is the reduction of the regional unbalance in those divided into two parts, the other is multi-dimentional plan through the efficient land-use on the side area of railway. For these regional refurbishment Plan, organizing the integrated transit system for the passenger's convenience, connecting existing commercial area and existing northen station square, modernization and improvement of environment are suggested.

  • The factors affecting thermostability and reactivation of peroxidase from soybean sprouts(Glycine max L.) were investigated. The enzyme was the most stable at pH 7.0 and below 60oC. Thermostability of the enzyme was reduced by addition of sodium chloride and saccharides. The partially inactivated enzyme by heat treatment at 75oC for 10 min was reactivated up to 211.5% at the optimal reactivation condition. The optimal pH and temperature for reactivation of the enzyme were pH 9.0 and 40oC, respectively. The reactivation was completely inhibited by addition of sulfhydryl reagent such as L cysteine.
