A Study for Aging Factor of Bulletproof Helmet : High Temperature Treatment (방탄헬멧의 노화인자에 관한 연구 : 고온 환경 처리를 중심으로)

  • This study was a prior study to establish the shelf life of bulletproof helmets, considered the aging factor of bulletproof helmets. To estimate the aging factor of bulletproof helmets, we established a hypothesis that the 'temperature' factor would have the greatest impact on the shelf life of the bulletproof helmet, considering the environmental treatment of the American army's bulletproof helmet's materials. To verify the hypothesis, high temperature acceleration environmental treatment of bulletproof helmets was performed, and the Arrhenius formula was applied to calculate the shelf life. The study result confirmed the negative correlation between bulletproof performance and high temperature, and the influence of temperature as an aging factor was not significant by deriving life by using the Arrhenius model. The limitation of this study is that we couldn't obtain enough samples due to the specificity (miliary supplies) of the test subjects. However, given that the life-related research on bulletproof helmets has not been carried out, this research has great implications and could be used as a reference for improving the Korean Army's bulletproof helmet specifications.

  • 현재 식물공장에서 사용되고 있는 이식장치는 핀을 이용하여 육묘트레이 위에서 플러그묘를 뽑아 육묘트레이 또는 포트로 옮겨 심는 방식을 채택하고 있다. 이러한 이식 방식은 셀과 셀 사이에 있는 다른 묘의 잎을 파지함으로써 묘를 2개 이상 취출하는 현상이라든지 핀에 의한 잎 손상 등이 우려되고 있어 이에 대한 개선책이 필요하다. 본 연구는 플러그묘의 이식작업 시 잎 손상을 줄이면서 기계 적응성을 향상시킬 수 있는 이식시스템을 개발하기 위해 진공흡인을 이용한 이식 메커니즘에 대해 검토하였다. 플러그묘 이식시스템은 육묘트레이 셀을 X-Y로 옮기는 묘 이송부, 육묘트레이의 셀 하단으로부터 진공을 발생시켜 묘를 떨어뜨리는 진공 흡인부, 낙하되는 묘를 감지하는 센서와 블로워 및 공압 실린더로 구성된 진공 발생부, 혈공된 포트를 진공 발생부의 유도관으로 옮기는 포트 이송부 등으로 설계 제작하였다. 이식 메커니즘은 육묘트레이 하단부로부터 플러그묘를 1개씩 진공흡인하는 방식을 채택하였고, 이를 위해 상하 모두 개방된 72공 육묘트레이($L538{\times}W280{\times}H45mm$)를 윗부분(Ø35mm) 보다 아랫부분(Ø37mm)의 셀이 넓은 형상으로 PP재질의 육묘트레이를 사출금형 제작하였다. 묘 이송부에 장착된 플러그묘는 X축 방향(12개 셀)으로 이식작업이 이루어지고, Y축(6개 셀)으로 이동된 후 다시 동일한 방향으로 연속 작업이 가능하도록 제어프로그램을 구성하였다. 이식 원리는 진공 흡인부에 플러그묘가 이송되면 진공 발생부의 흡착패드가 위로 전진하여 진공을 발생시켜 묘를 흡인하고, 유도관 내에 부착된 광화이버센서에 의해 묘를 감지하여 블로워와 공압실린더를 제어함으로써 이식 공정이 끝나게 된다. 로메인상추의 플러그묘를 대상으로 진공흡인 시험을 실시한 결과 묘 손상없이 이식작업이 가능한 것으로 확인되었다.

  • Ultrasonic inspection system consist of the operator, equipment and procedure. The reliability of results in ultrasonic inspection is affected by its ability. Furthermore, the reliability of nondestructive testing is influenced by the inspection environment, materials and types of defect. Therefore, it is very difficult to estimate the reliability of NDT due to the various factors. In this study, the probability of detection by logistic probability model and Monte Carlo simulation is used for the reliability assessment of ultrasonic inspection. The utility of the NDT reliability assesment is verified by the analysis of the data from round robin test nth these models.

  • The lock-in thermography was employed to evaluate the integrity of railway bogies. Prior to the actual application on railway bogies, in order to assess the detectability of known flaws, the calibration reference panel was prepared with various dimensions of artificial flaws. The panel was composed of structural steel, which was the same material with actual bogies. Through lock-in thermography evaluation, the optimal frequency of heat source was determined for the best flaw detection. Based on the defects information, the actual defect assessments on railway bogie were conducted with different types of railway bogies, which were used for the current operation. In summary, the defect assessment results with thermography method showed a good agreement as compared with the conventional inspection techniques. Moreover, it was found that the novel infrared thermography technique could be an effective way for the inspection and the detection of surface defects on bogies since the infrared thermography method provided rapid and non-contact mode for the investigation of railway bogies.

  • The tensile test is generally used to measure mechanical properties with conventional fracture test. This test is extremely certain method to measure Young's modulus, yield strength, tensile strength and so on. ASTM, by international standard, prescribes two classes of tensile tests in tubular products. One is method that specimens aren't done by any process with Tube-shape. The other is that specimens are made on process for C-shape. In this paper, we would like to present the new-shape specimens for the tensile test. The presented specimen's shape is that put two pieces of C-shape specimens together. Besides a load point and a support point are fixed like Tube-shape specimens. This shape of specimen has a difference that existing specimen is made on one-step process out this specimen is made on two-step process. This shape is considered that stress concentration phenomenon occurs at the reduced section if a specimen is made on one step process.

  • In this study, This study investigates the axial load behavior of concrete-filled steel columns using seismic rectangular steel tube with the width-to-thickness and slenderness ratio. Due to cold-roll forming and cold-press forming of steel tube, the flat part and the corner part of the rectangular steel tubes are changed in the material properties compared to SN-steel plate. It was showed the tendency to increase yield strength, tensile strength and upper limit of yield ratio This phenomenon affects the nonlinear behavior after local buckling of the steel tube. Therefore, the coupon test was performed by the processing of rectangular steel tube, in order to assess forming performance. And a total of 6 CFT-columns were tested under monotonic loading condition. Main parameters were the width-thickness ratio and the slenderness ratio.

  • Due to metallicity of materials, a vessel has a limitation to adopt RF-based wireless communication technologies for the inner communication means. Visible Light Communication(VLC) can be a sound alternative to dissolve such a limitation. Using a visual light as a transmission medium, VLC is free from radio interferences and restriction of radio usages which are typically related to RF-based wireless communications. In addition, VLC can not only require the facility cost relatively low because of being possibly converged with existing LED illumination, but also be harmless to the human body. This paper proposes an indoor location-based emergency call service system solution for ships using the VLC technology that supports 256Kbps data rate and 5m transmission distance. This paper presents real implementation and testing results of the solution which verifies the propriety of the proposal.

  • This paper describes BAUSAT-2 orbital thermal analysis and preliminary design of thermal control subsystem. To design thermal control subsystem of HAUSAT-2, we have considered active & passive thermal control method based on basic theory and themal equilibrium equation. Using this result, suitable thermal control method and material have been selected. We have designed thermal control subsystem based on analysis of HAUSAT-2's thermal environments on sun synchronous orbit with altitude 650km, inclination $98^{\circ}$ and thermal distribution and range expectation of each HAUSAT-2's surface. Thermal analysis consists of system level, box level and board level analysis. We have completed system level and box level analysis. Till now, board level analysis of main heat dissipation board in progress. Thermal control subsystem has designed according to thermal analysis result.   • Recently, the importance of the northeast economies including Russia has been growing, and according to the Eurasian initiative policy, the enhancement of transportation, logistics and connectivity between the northeast Asian countries is emerging as one of the challenges for future growth. However, due to the different vehicle systems used in each country, the railway connections between countries are not operating smoothly. Especially, the couplers of the railway cars which pass through the countries of northeast Asia including Russia have different regulations, which render their shape and characteristics incompatible. In this study, we propose a method of interconnecting the AAR type coupler used in Korea and China and the CA-3 type coupler compatible with the Russian GOST standard, and verify that its structural safety conforms with each set of regulations. We analyze the possibilities offered by this method of interconnection by performing tests while developing materials satisfying the mechanical properties required for the freight coupler.

  • In this paper, a novel rectangular patch antenna is proposed to have Zeroth Order Resonance(ZOR) generated based on the Metamaterial Complosite Right- and Left-Handed(CRLH) structure. Making the in-phase electric field over the entire antenna other than a half-wavelength as the fundamental resonance mode of a standard microstrip patch or its positive multiple, the metallic patch is suggested to be capacitively coupled with only one surrounding rectangular ring, different from the previous 1D ZOR antennas commonly having several metal cells in line. The performance of the proposed antenna is simulated by a 3D field solver that inputs the sizes of the physical structure corresponding to the equivalent circuit designed to have ZOR at 2.4 GHz. Consequently, the resonance frequency, the gain and the antenna efficiency are observed 2.4 GHz, 5 dB and 98%, respectively. Besides, the important property of the proposed antenna is addressed as the combination of the low profile as an advantage of microstrip patch antennas, and the omni-directional field pattern typical of monopole antennas.
