  • In accordance with K-IFRS 1109, financial instruments are classified to amortized cost (AC), fair value through other comprehensive income (FVOCI) and fair value through profit or loss (FVPL). And disposal gains are prohibited to be recirculated for net income when FVOCI financial instruments would be sold in the future, so-called recirculation prohibition. This research investigates whether accumulated other comprehensive income of available-for sale financial assets(AFS) under K-IFRS 1039, could affect reclassified amounts to the FVPL securities from the AFS securities. Also, this study investigates the effects of the reported income on the reclassified FVPL, because CEOs are likely to try earnings management when net income is predicted to be less than target or is low, comparing other firms. As a result of empirical analysis, first, I find that accumulated other comprehensive income of the AFS has a positive impact on the reclassified FVPL. Second, level of reporting income has no significant impact on the reclassified FVPL. Third, interaction effects are significantly positive on the firms which have more other comprehensive income and less level of reported income. Fourth, the effects of the bank and securities are more distinct than those of the manufactures. This study is the first research to investigate earnings management through AFS at the timing of the first adoption of K-IFRS 1109. Empirical results of this study provide evidence of earnings management on the reclassification of FVPL which gives meaningful implications to regulators, academic researchers and auditors.

  • Dumping of wastes at sea will be strongly prohibited from 2012 by London Dumping Convention. So, finding the method for treatment of food waste at ground is needed urgently. The solution for above mentioned problem is the resource development from food waste leachate by using Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) process. In this research, we try to find out the effect of effluent recirculation and internal return influence on organic removal efficiency and biogas production. Laboratory investigation was conducted for 25 days with only internal recycling, and then, effluent recirculation was performed. As the result of experiments, the organic removal efficiency was above 90%, and the content of methane was 78~80% during operating time. Also, when UASB reactor was operated to over the 3 Q effluent recirculation, there was not 1 N-NaOH consumption any more, therethrough the experiment was economically and stably carried out.

  • In order to control and manage oil-tanker scrapped materials and wastes properly, the actual conditions and global trends of the treatment and the management of ship scrapped wastes were surveyed and some amendments to marine pollution prevention law of Korea were proposed. Global annual volume of scrapped ships was estimated to be about 22 million DWT and most of them were scrapped in 4 major ship scrap countries such as Bangladesh, China. India and Pakistan and in minor ship scrap countries such as Turkey, the Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam. The industry of ship scrap has been mainly developed in developing countries or undeveloped countries rather than in advanced countries. Most of scrapped ships were found to be small or medium size below 1,000 GRT In Jellanam-Do and Jeju-Do of Korea. Most of ship scrap enterprise and all enterprises of collection, transfer, treatment and disposal for ship scrapped materials and wastes were shown to be small sized in Korea. The regulations and/or rules which shall prohibit or limit trans-boundary movement of overage oil-tankers for scrap from Korea to developing or undeveloped countries, and vice versa should be Included in marine pollution prevention law of Korea. the criteria of manpower and facilities for enterprise of ship scrap, and for enterprises of collection, transfer, treatment and disposal of ship scrapped materials and wastes should be stipulated in marine pollution prevention law of Korea. It is desirable to introduce the system or concept of recycle or reuse of ship scrapped materials and wastes on producer's responsibility into marine pollution prevention law of Korea.
