Modeling of Fracture Toughness Test Procedures for Metal and Rock Materials using LS-DYNA (LS-DYNA를 이용한 금속 및 암석 재료의 파괴인성시험 모델링)

  • In this study, two fracture toughness test procedures are modelled for selected metal and rock on LS-DYNA, which is a commercial finite element code. The tests are conducted by using the 3-point bend test procedure for rectangular bar specimen. Because it takes a relatively long time to conduct the test, the implicit solver based on the Newmark method is adopted for the analyses. The values of stress intensity factor obtained from the analyses are 73 and $0.3MPa.m^{0.5}$ for the metal and rock material, respectively. It can be thought that the resulting small value of the fracture toughness of the rock material model well represents the brittleness of rock material.

  • The thermomechanical tensile characteristics were evaluated for A12024-T3 under heating rates from $1^{\circ}C/sec\;to\;30^{\circ}C/sec$ by using an infrared heating equipment to simulate aerodynamic heating. The rapid heating test results were compared with tensile test results after 1/2 hour exposure in terms of yield stress to investigate the influence of heating condition. A heating rate-yield temperature parameter was suggested for rapid heating based on time-temperature parameters, and master yield stress curve was obtained by using these parameter. These test results can be used for margin of safety of supersonic vehicle structures subjected to aerodynamic heating.

Development of a Material Test Machine Using an Electro-Magnetic Actuator (전자기 구동장치를 이용한 재료시험기 개발)

  • In this research, a material test machine is developed which uses a small electro-magnetic actuator and a leverage mechanism. The leverage mechanism amplifies the force from the electro-magnetic actuator. The electro-magnetic part operates more silently and cleanly than a hydraulic part. In a tooth material study, a test machine does not require a large force capacity because it handles only $4mm^2$-sectioned and short-span specimens. Conventional test machines such as those by Instron and the BOSE Enduratec ELF3200 have too high aforce capacity for a tooth material study. A test machine for a tooth material study requires an acting force only on the order of tens of Newtons (N) operating at several Hertz.

Effect of Surface Roughness of Al5052/CFRP Composites on the Adhesion and Mechanical Properties (Al5052/CFRP 복합소재의 표면특성이 접착성과 기계적특성에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, Al5052/CFRP composites were fabricated for an automobile component by compression molding process inside a U-channel mold. Al5052 sheet were treated by sand blasting with two different particle sizes. Accordingly, surface roughness (Ra) values of $4.25{\mu}m$ and $1.85{\mu}m$ were obtained for the treated Al5052 sheets. The effect of surface roughness of Al5052 sheets on the adhesion and mechanical properties of Al5052/CFRP composites have been evaluated. Shear lap test and 3-point bending test were conducted. Results showed that the shear load for the composite fabricated by using the treated Al5052 sheets with Ra value of $1.85{\mu}m$ and $4.25{\mu}m$ were 3 and 5 times higher than Ra value of $0.73{\mu}m$ of the composite fabricated by using the untreated sheet. The bending stress of 200MPa was obtained for the composite fabricated with untreated Al5052 sheets. The bending stress increased to 400MPa when the composite fabricated from treated sheets. However, the bending stress was not influenced by treating condition through sand blasting.

  • With the recent emergence of high rise buildings, this study was conducted in order to examine shortening, which has been used only in civil engineering structures, in such buildings. Examination of the shortening of vertical members is basically focused on deformations caused by load applied to concrete, material characteristics, etc. Shortening is analyzed through calculating parameters from the factors or characteristics of concrete, but analysis in the aspect of material tests has been somewhat unsatisfactory. Thus, this study purposed to analyze basic material test items for correcting the shortening of vertical members, namely, columns, to determine the reliability of material tests before parameter calculation for correcting shortening, and to examine the performance of material tests.

  • 현재 XLPE 절연 케이블의 상시 운전 온도는 $90^{\circ}C$나 개발된 고내열성 절연재료의 상시운전온도는 $110^{\circ}C$로 향상되었다. 개발된 고내열성 절연재료는 XLPE 절연 케이블의 상시 운전온도($90^{\circ}C$)와 비상시운전온도($110^{\circ}C$), 고내열성 절연재료의 상시운전온도($110{\circ}C$), 비상시 운전온도($130{\circ}C$)을 바탕으로 하여 열 열화 온도와 기간이 설정되었다. 열 열화는 자연순환 건조기에서 설정된 온도와 기간 동안 수행되었고, 열 열화된 고내열성 절연재료는 Mckewon전극을 이용하여 AC파괴 시험이 진행 되었다. 파괴시험데이터는 와이블 분포함수를 이용하여 통계적으로 분석되었다.

  • 원자로 압력용기 재료의 중성자 조사 취화 문제는 원자력발전소의 안전성 및 수명 관리에 가장 중대 한 영향을 미친다. 재료의 조사 취화를 평가하기 위하여 수행하고 있는 충격 및 인장시험 같은 파괴적 시험 결과는 석출물 크기나 분포, 전위 밀도 등, 재료 자체의 조직학적 특성에 좌우되므로 한정된 시편을 이용한 평가에는 많은 불확실성이 존재하게 된다. 따라서 이와 같은 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 비파괴기술을 이용한 조사 취화 평가에 대한 많은 연구가 진행되고 있다. 현재 원자로 압력용기 재료의 조사 취화에 따른 미세 조직 변화를 분석하기 위하여 응용되고 있는 비파괴기술로는 전기, 자기, 전자기, 초음파 및 경도측정법 등이 있으나 비파괴피험 결과와 미세조직의 변화, 기계적 성질 및 취화 정도 등과의 상관 관계를 정립해야만 기존 파괴적 시험의 대체가 가능하게 된다. 따라서 현재까지 수행되고 있는 여러 비파괴기술을 이용한 조사 취화 평가 연구결과를 비교 분석하여 보다 실현 가능성 있는 비파괴기술을 검토하였다.

  • This paper presents a fabrication of a full-stale combustion chamber of a liquid rocket engine for a ground hot firing test. Engine drawings for manufacturing were prepared after conceptual and detail designs. The combustor is composed of a head and a chamber. SUS316L is used for materials of the head because of the good quality in low temperature. Inner materials of the ablative cooling chamber is silica/phenolic and outer case materials is the SUS316L. Materials of the regenerative cooling chamber are C18200 and SUS316L. After lathe, general milling and MCT machinings, components were finished by electrolytic polishing. A brazing method was applied for bonding the injectors and the injector plate, the regenerative cooling chamber because of structure configurations.

  • 발전소 복수기의 열전달 표면에 형성되는 불순물의 fouling factor와 튜브내면에 부착되는 피막의 두께변화를 측정하여 복수기 관리에 관한 지침을 제시하고자 모델복수기를 이용하여 60일간 현장실험을 실시하였다. 복수기의 fouling factor는 시험 후 약 40일 이후부터 큰 폭으로 증가하였다. 발전용 복수기의 관청결도가 85-90%로 설계되므로 설계치를 유지하기 위해서는 약 40일 마다 복수기튜브를 세정하여 관청결도를 향상시켜야 할 것으로 판단되었다. 또한 동합금 재질을 사용하는 복수기튜브는 설치 후 보호피막이 형성되는 초기 30일 동안의 방식운전이 복수기튜브 건전성 확보에 중요한 인자임을 유추할 수 있었다.

  • A study has been conducted on the bulging process of regenerative cooling nozzle which is essential for the manufacturing of liquid rocket thrust chamber. Tension tests have been performed for the material to be used for the development of the bulging process and mechanical properties are obtained by the test. Two or three bulging tools were required to complete the bulging process. The necking of the material was a major failure encountered in the bulging process and a research has revealed that grain size of the material has considerable effect on its occurrence. The presently developed bulging process with a controlled grain size material has been successfully applied to the manufacturing of subscale and 30-tonf full scale regeneratively cooled nozzle while demonstrating the applicability and usefulness of the presently developed bulging process.
