  • Normally, a corner cube retroreflector (CCRR) sheet is used as a retroreflective mirror array (RRMA) in a volumetric display. Each CCRR unit reflects light in the retroreflective direction, which is parallel to the incident light, and it makes a blurred image, as it shifts the position of light within its dimensions. Adopting a "curved planar wall" and "parabolic focusing" (x-axis), a hybrid-t(transverse direction)-RRMA is proposed, to improve the image quality and brightness. The improvement of image contrast is achieved by tuning a "linear v-shaped groove" structure to a "parabolic v-shaped groove". Also, the system has been simplified and the brightness enhanced 4 times by removing the half mirror.

  • Road signs are important facilities in terms of providing information to driver, they are helpful for driver's judgment as deliver it's own information. However if there is occurrence dew on the road sign because of the change of temperature and humidity, it can be cause of accidents. Therefore it is necessary to develop anti-dew or dew resistance technology. In this research the anti-dew technologies such as insulation road sign and anti-dew film were compared with normal road sign, and the effectiveness analysis was conducted for each alternatives. The quantity of dew on the road sign was check using ANOVA and Tukey HSD and the relation between the retro-reflectivity and quantity of dew on the sign was check using Pearson correlation coefficient. As a result, the sample of anti-dew film attached road sign showed lesser quantity of dew compared with normal road sign. After 90 seconds, the difference of dew quantity for anti-dew film and insulation road sign showed statistically significant result. The relation of between quantity of dew and retro-reflectivity was inverse correlation. As a result, when analyzed the quantity of dew and retro-reflectivity a point of view anti-dew effectiveness, the anti-dew film and insulation road sign showed meaningful result.

  • Visual changes and speed changes in curved sections of highways are more dangerous than straight sections According to the enquetes conducted by Coalition for Transportation Culture in 1999, about 78% of drivers are dissatisfied with traffic guide and safety signs, with lack of visibility being the largest reason with about 27.9% of respondents indicating it as reason for dissatisfaction. In particular, the lack of visibility during nighttime or bad weather not only threatens driver safety due to poor delivery of information, but also affects the service level of highways. Because of this a new delineation must be installed and managed to enhance driver visibility. In this research, an optimal delineation system to enhance traffic safety is presented. In this research drivers effectively obtained information on highway alignment on the curved sections using a retro-reflection type delineation system and a newly-developed internal lighting delineation system to improve safety on the highways. A statistical comparison was conducted and analysis was done for the delineation systems that enhanced visibility through primary and secondary enquaetes. As a result, inside-lighting delineator will be selected in terms of safety at the curve sections. The inside-lighting delineator was more effective than the retro-reflection delineator on visibility, the necessity of reduction of speed and will reduce the hazard at curve sections. It is anticipated that when a delineation system based on this research is installed, a reduction in the number the number and severity of traffic accidents on curved sections will be reduced. In addition this system will more effectively provide drivers with information about highway alignment.
