In Korea, more than half of medical libraries are small.sized hospital libraries operated under the single.librarian system, and it is keenly required to establish collection management policies for exchanging resources with other libraries and maintaining consistency. however, it is rare to set up their collection management policies on the web among the domestic medical libraries. Thus, this study purposed to survey cases of collection management policies in domestic and foreign medical libraries and to provide basic information and ideas for Korean medical libraries that are preparing collection management policies. As long as core requirements are satisfied, collection management policies do not have a way. Thus, this case study is expected to provide useful ideas to medical libraries developing their collection management policies. For this purpose, we selected 12 survey items based on previous studies, and investigated one domestic and five foreign medical libraries, and analyzed collected data. Based on the results of analyzing the cases, we suggested 12 guidelines.

The purpose of this study is to propose established factors and a model of collection development policies for the libraries of theological universities in Korea. To achieve purpose of the study, we analyzed of elements and details of collection development policies at libraries of theological universities in overseas. The study then conducted a survey to understand the current status of collection development policies at libraries of theological universities in Korea. Based on the above results, reflecting both the external and the internal factors, the investigator presented a model of collection development policies by identifying seven elements that should be included when developing the policy: prefaces, collection selection, collection gathering, budget, collection maintenance, mutual cooperation and intellectual freedom, and revision of collection development policies.

최근 대학도서관뿐만 아니라 대부분의 도서관에서 인터넷과 웹의 영향으로 전자정보원이 급증하고 이를 관리하는 예산의 비중이 늘어나고 있다. 따라서 이러한 어려움을 극복하기 위하여 장서개발정책 수립이 불가피하다. 특히 외국의 경우 장서정책개발, 장서분석 등의 분야에서 그 연구가 활발한 데에 비해 국내의 장서개발정책은 현실을 반영하는 것조차 힘든 상황이다. 이것은 이용자나 다른 도서관에서 활용하기 어렵다는 문제점을 안고 있으며, 변화하는 시대에 맞춘 장서개발 및 관리 역시 어렵다는 점을 보여주고 있다. 특히 대학도서관의 의무를 다 하기 위해서는, 장서의 효율적인 관리와 공간 활용뿐만 아니라 대학의 교육 및 연구에 얼마나 이바지 할 수 있을 것인가에 더욱 주안점을 둔 장서개발정책이 필요할 것이다. 본 내용은 영국의 리즈대학교와 국내의 A대학교의 장서개발정책을 비교분석함으로서 장서개발정책의 필요성과 문제점을 확인하고자 한다.

A national library bears responsibility to collect, develop, manage and preserve the national knowledge resources and heritages. The institution, in order to accomplish this duty, should center on systematically developed collection development policy. This paper, in this regard, strives to propose a model to comprise of basic principles of collection development of a national library in order for the effective management of resources by the types and subjects. Major emphasis was put on the nature of a national library as a legal deposit library, an information gateway, and a repository for national information resources. As a result, a model collection development policy appropriate for a national library has been proposed by analyzing cases in other countries to guide establishing principles for determining and analyzing the types and magnitude of the collection acquisition; by applying the Five-level conspectus to be optimal to collection magnitude; and, by identifying the essential elements in systematic development of national knowledge/information resources.

The purpose of this study is to examine 5 writing guidelines of reference collection development policy(RCDP) and to identify major elements of RCDP through the comparison and analysis of 24 RCDP in academic libraries in the U.S. As a result of this study, a total of 9 elements(5 core elements and 4 selective elements) were identified. Five core elements were (1) introduction, (2) scope, size, and level, (3) format, (4) types, and (5) management(i.e., selection, weeding, evaluation, and responsibilities) of reference collection. The results of this study would be helpful to those academic libraries which are planning to write RCDP in academic libraries in the near future.

Collection Development Policy(CDP) is the master plan for managing libraries and information centers through which the features and categories of collections are defined and sorted. The National Digital Library therefore needs to determine its manifest principles based on CDP regarding the magnitude of acquisition, the acquisition priority and the magnitude of purchases. This paper pertains to the principal model for NDL Collection Development Policy as a primer for establishing NDL Collection Development Policy in order to illustrate essential elements of national collection development policy and provide general guidelines for NDL Collection Development Policy. To propose an independent Collection Development Policy appropriate for NDL by analyzing cases in digital resource development policies. To guide establishing principles for determining the types and magnitude of NDL collection acquisition, prioritizing acquisition, making decisions on purchase magnitude and licensing. To identify the essential elements in systematic development of national digital information resources; and to propose a model for NDL's CDP accordingly.

This paper reviews digital collection development policies of academic libraries in America which attempted to digitize their collections in order to preserve their analog collections and to provide easy access to their digital collections. Such factors as selecting materials for digitization, sustainable size of digital collection, bibliographic control and collection management, coordinated digital collection project are discussed in order to be fully integrated into traditional collection development policies of academic libraries.

The purpose of this study is to develop detailed items and elements to be included in a national guideline for school library collection which can be used as a basis and standard for establishing collection management policies in individual school libraries. For this purpose, materials related to the collection management of school library were analyzed with the international and national level. As a result, the international materials emphasizes accessibility and resource sharing of digital materials besides quantitative standards of the library collection and deal with the process for the objection collection. In this study, items to be included in the national guidelines are divided into general principles of collection management and collection management guidelines, and elements of the each item are suggested. And proposed systematic bases for efficient application of the national guidelines to school libraries.

All public libraries are collection-based knowledge and cultural service institutions. To this end, a collection development policy is an essential and a strategic menu that every library should establish first. Regional central libraries should establish and apply optimal collection development policies to conduct the legal duties as knowledge and information centers and cooperative preservation facilities of the cities and provinces. Thus, this study analyzed and compared in detail the collection development guidelines (draft) and regulations of regional central libraries in Korea and the collection development policies of metropolitan public libraries abroad. Results showed that the policies of domestic regional central libraries were simply practical guidelines while those in most developed countries were substantial in format and content. All regional central library systems should establish and document collection development policies based on the importance of collection development, future-oriented thinking, and strategic decision. The study also suggested the basic principles and the format for this purpose.

공공도서관은 지역주민의 다양한 정보요구와 관심사를 충족시키기 위해 필요한 각종 정보자료를 광범위하게 구성하여야 한다. 이렇듯 공공도서관은 방문하는 이용자들의 배경이 다양하고 도서관을 찾는 목적 또한 다양하기 때문에 모든 이용자의 요구를 충분히 만족시키기에 어려움을 겪고 있으며, 이를 극복하기 위한 노력으로 공공도서관 자료의 만족 수준을 높일 수 있는 장서개발정책 연구가 필요하다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 공공도서관의 장서개발정책을 제안하기 위해 서울특별시 소재 구립 공공도서관 10개관 이용자들을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 이용자의 장서 이용 행태를 파악하고, 이를 바탕으로 서울시 구립 공공도서관을 위한 장서개발정책을 제안한다.
