Latent Profile Analysis on Vocational Competency of Students in Vocational High Schools and Vocational Program of General High School (직업계 고교생의 직업기초능력 잠재프로파일분석)

  • The purpose of the study was to examine the vocational competency of students enrolled in vocational high schools including specialized vocational high school and meister vocational high school, and vocation program of general high school. We analyzed their vocational competency, based upon the vocational competency data of KCCI (Korea Chamber of Commerce & Industry). The results were as follow. First, latent profiles of subjects were categorized into four folds: general cognition-low adaption, cognition adaption general, pursuit of job adaption, low cognition-job mal-adaption. Each percentage of four groups was 39%, 30%, 11%, and 20%. Second, mainly, specialized vocational high school pattern is matched with vocational high schools' pattern. However, the cognitive competency of students in meister vocational high school was higher than that of student in vocation program of general high school. Third, latent profile group was clarified in terms of non-cognition aspect. Fourth, The higher the job adaption is, the higher the career decision level. We suggested some policy implications for improve the vocational competency.

Identifying Latent Classes in Adolescent's Self-Determination Motivation and Testing Determinants of Classes (자기결정성 이론에 따른 학습동기 변화의 잠재프로파일 분류 및 영향요인 검증)

  • The present study classified groups based on latent profile of self-determination motivation(amotivation, external motivation, intrinsic motivation), and examined the determinants for each group. The data was collected through panel data of Korea Education Longitudinal Study(KELS), total 5,459 participants who answered questionnaires of self-determination motivation of two times both second grade of middle school and second grade of high school. To identify the change motivational type, standardized residual was conducted using SPSS 17.0., and the latent classes for the change of motivational type was investigated using M-Plus in the frame work of Latent Profile Analysis(LPA). The results indicated that five groups(increase of self-determination, self-determination maintenance, self-determination developmental delay, elf-determination confusion, decrease of self-determination group) were classified based on latent profile. In addition, parental control, academic self-concept, teacher-student relationship, test anxiety, avoidance orientation, gender, father's education, and income were significantly related to each group. Lastly, the implications for directions of the adolescent counseling, limitations and future research are discussed.

Differences in Gender Equality Consciousness between Latent Profiles based on Organizational Culture Types Recognized by Corporate Workers (기업근로자가 인식한 조직문화 유형에 따른 양성평등의식의 차이)

  • This study aimed to examine the differences in gender equality consciousness between latent profiles based on corporate workers' organizational culture types. To achieve the study's purpose, descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and latent profile analysis (LPA) were conducted using 253 Korean corporate workers' data. As a result of the analysis, the latent profiles of organizational culture recognized by corporate workers were classified into 5 profiles. We named each profile as high compete-low create culture, high compete-low collaborate culture, collaborate culture, high create culture, and high control culture based on each profile's organizational culture perception. The ANOVA test found statistically significant differences between the groups in the gender equality consciousness. This study is meaningful in that it reveals the relationship between the organization culture perception and the gender equality consciousness and suggested implications for the organizational-level intervention to improve the gender equality consciousness. It will provide basic data for your research.

Classification of Student's School Violence During Middle School: Applying Multilevel Latent Profile Models to Test Individual and School Effects (다층 잠재프로파일 분석을 적용한 중학생의 학교폭력 집단 분류와 개인 및 학교요인 검증)

  • The purposes of this study are to identify the latent classes of school violence depending on bullying and victimized experience by type and the influences of individual-level and school-level variables on determining these latent profiles. For these research goals, the present study utilized data from the Seoul Education Longitudinal Study(SELS) 5th wave, containing data from 2,195 middle school students who experienced school violences more than once. Multilevel latent profile models were applied to examine school violence among students. Our results indicated that there were four latent classes; high-level bullying and victimized group (1.7%), mainly bullying group(2.1%), mainly victimized group(3.7%), verbal bullying and victimized group(92.5%). Gender, resilience, self-control, peer relationship, parental relationship were significant determinants of the latent profiles at student level. Teacher-student relationships, school violence prevention, gender ratio of school were significant determinants of the latent profiles at school level. The present study contributed to extending theoretical discussions by classifying students into groups based on frequency and different forms of bullying and victimization. Moreover, this study examined determinants of student and school level simultaneously by dealing with multilevel data.

A Latent Profile Analysis of Stress Coping Strategies among Korean Adults at the Early Stage of the Coronavirus Pandemic(COVID-19) and Verification of Influencing Factors (코로나 팬데믹 초기 한국인의 스트레스 대처 양상에 따른 잠재계층 분류와 영향요인 검증)

  • This study examined the patterns of coping strategies among Koreans during the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic, explored the influence of demographic information (gender, age, economic level, household type), along with the unusual experiences due to COVID-19 (fear, stress of COVID, constraints of routine, income risk) on the classification of subclasses, and analyzed the latent profile differences in psychological wellbeing (life satisfaction, depression, and anxiety). An online survey was conducted among Korean Adults(n=600) between April 13, 2020 and 21, when WHO declared COVID-19 a global pandemic and Daegu as well as Gyeongsangbuk-do was nominated as a special disaster zone. First, Latent Profile Analysis (LPA) was used to identify subclasses of coping strategies and results suggested that the 4-class model had the best fit. Second, Class memberships were predicted by gender, age, economic level, as well as fear, stress, constraints of routine, and income risk, among the unusual experiences due to COVID-19. Finally, there are differences in psychological wellbeing among latent profiles. 'High level of adaptive coping group 3' showed the highest level of life satisfaction, 'Adaptive-maladaptive coping group 4' showed the highest level of depression, anxiety. Implications and suggestions are discussed based on the study results.

Exploring Latent Trajectory Classes of Change in Depression Measured Using CES-D (CES-D로 측정한 우울증상 변화궤적의 잠재계층 탐색 -GMM을 활용한 한국복지패널 데이터의 재분석-)

  • The purpose of the present study was to explore latent trajectory classes in the longitudinal change of depression measured using CES-D. The study data was extracted from the Korea Welfare Panel Study Data collected from 2006 to 2010. It consisted of 8,900 adults with aged over 19. Growth Mixture Modeling(GMM) was used to explore possible latent trajectory classes in the change of depression over time. The major findings of the present study were as follows. First, there were five latent trajectory classes in the longitudinal change of depression. Second, there were 4 latent trajectory classes of depression for people in a non-poverty group, while there were 3 latent trajectory classes of depression for people in a poverty group. These findings lead to three conclusions. First, 12.1% of the sample shows that their depression level increases over time. Second, the previous research findings of decreased depression over time might be caused by the combination of two latent trajectory classes(a low level depression sustain group and a depression decrease group). Lastly, the latent trajectory classes in the longitudinal change of depression, which are found in the present study, might be caused by interactions among depression, age, and poverty status.

The latent classes depending on trajectories of intrinsic and extrinsic work values and its relationship with gender, academic achievement, socioeconomic status, career maturity amongst college students (대학생의 내·외재적 직업가치 변화양상 및 잠재집단 유형과 성, 사회경제적 지위, 학업성취, 진로성숙의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the latent classes depending on trajectories of intrinsic and extrinsic work values amongst college students and to test the effects of gender, socioeconomic status, academic achievement and career maturity on determining the latent classes. The results indicated that intrinsic and extrinsic work values, respectively, have two types of latent classes. The latent classes were defined as a increasing group(29.4%) and a slight decreasing group(70.8%) in intrinsic work values, a slight decreasing group(18.1%) and a increasing group(81.9%) in extrinsic work values. It was also found that the higher academic achievement levels were more likely to belong to the increasing group in intrinsic work values, male college students were more likely to belong to the increasing group in extrinsic work values, and the higher socioeconomic status were more likely to belong to the increasing group in extrinsic work values. The findings of this study can enrich future research into career counseling and education of college students and provide basic data for the strategies and intervention of career counseling. Both the implications and limitations of this study were also discussed, along with suggestions for future research.

Identifying Latent Classes of the SNS Addiction Tendencies in Married Women and Testing Determinants of the Classes (기혼여성의 SNS중독경향성에 대한 잠재프로파일 분석 및 영향요인 검증)

  • The purpose of this study was to classify latent profiles based on SNS addictive tendencies of married women and to examine the effects of age, adult attachment, extrinsic motivation of the fear of missing out and marriage satisfaction. A total of 300 married women who have been using SNS participated in this study. The result indicated that there were three latent profiles for SNS addictive tendencies of married women : (1) high-risk group (2) potential-risk group (3) low-risk group. The high-risk group had high scores in all sub-areas (obsession and withdrawal symptoms, over-communication and immersion, over-consumption). The high-risk group accounted for 24.51% of the total and the potential-risk group was 44.33%, which had the highest proportion of them. While attachment anxiety, attachment avoidance, extrinsic motivation of the fear of missing out, and marriage satisfaction were significant determinants of latent profiles, age was not. This study divided groups according to the characteristics of married women's SNS addiction tendencies and provided implications for counseling and education according to group characteristics, and discussed the need for various research through the development of standardized SNS addiction scale for married women.

A Latent Profile Analysis of Grit and Passion Mindset: Variations in Psychological Characteristics and Career Adaptability among University Students (성인진입기 대학생의 그릿-열정 마인드셋 유형에 따른 잠재프로파일분석: 집단별 심리특성 및 진로적응성 차이)

  • The purpose of this study was to classify different profiles of grit (effort vs. interest) and passion mindset (fixed vs. growth) in university students and to understand whether there are differences in psychological characteristics (ie. depression, anxiety and happiness) and career adaptability between the profiles. To this end, we recruited 359 students aged 18 and 25 and applied a Latent Profile Analysis(LPA). The results revealed 4 distinct profiles : Profile1-a burgeoning type, Profile2-an ordinary type, Profile3-a fixed/limited type, Profile4-sprouting/drifting type. The profile1(LP1, 22.2%) had high levels of grit and passion growth mindset. The profile2(LP2, 63.8%) showed average levels in both grit and passion mindset. The profile3(LP3, 8.8%) had a low level of grit and a high level of passion fixed mindset. The profile4(LP4, 5.1%) showed a low level of grit and a high level of passion growth mindset. The four profiles were distinct in psychological characteristics and career adaptability. The burgeoning type(profile1) was most adaptive in comparison to the fixed/limited type(profile 3). These results suggest that grit has more powerful effects on psychological characteristics while passion growth mindset exerts stronger influencers in career adaptability. Putting the results together, our findings imply that both passion growth mindset and grit need to be considered together to enhance the individuals' comprehensive well-being and to increase the level of adaptation for career preparation.

Predictors of Latent Class of Longitudinal Medical Expenses of Older People and the Effects on Subjective Health (노인 의료비 변화궤적의 잠재계층 유형: 예측요인과 주관적 건강에 대한 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore latent classes of longitudinal medical expenses of older people and to analyze its predictors and its effects on subjective health. Among participants of the Korean Health Panel, the sample of this study includes 1,119 people who is 65-year-old or older and reported their medical expenses for nine consecutive years. The analyses were conducted in three steps. First, Growth Mixture Model (GMM) was applied to find distinct subgroups showing similar patterns in medical expenses. The results showed four groups which were classified as high medical expenditure maintenance group, medical expenditure increase group, low medical expenditure maintenance group, and medical expenditure reduction group. Second, the multinominal logistic regression found that the presence of spouse, economic participation, the number of chronic diseases, and the type of health insurance were significant predictors of latent classes in medical expenses. In particular, the greater the number of chronic diseases, the higher the likelihood of belonging to the high medical expenditure maintenance group. In addition, medical benefit recipients are more likely to belong to the low medical cost maintenance and medical cost reduction groups. Third, multiple regression analysis revealed that the older people in the groups with low or reducing expenses reported better subjective health than people with higher expenses. This study has its meanings in exploring the heterogeneity in longitudinal medical expenses among older people and its predictors and its associations with health outcome. The results of this research provide background information in establishing public health policy for older people.
