To perform performance-based seismic design of buildings, it is necessary clear goal for usage and stability after an earthquake. To clear this goal, it requires a review of the constituent material of the building and, in particular, a member used as an indicator of the residual strain is useful. There are more usage of prestressed concrete because of prestressing steel witch has characteristics of the origin-oriented. In this study, the goal is estimating of residual strain on the prestressed concrete beam member. The expression for angle of deformed prestressed concrete beam member was obtained from using of curvature on the critical section and the equivalent plastic hinge length based on 'equivalent plastic hinge length method'. Considering the balance of strength and deformation conditions, suitable analysis values were derived from 'split Element Method'. Through various parametric studies, various factors affecting the residual strain were decided. Based on the results of this study, it is expected many researches will be proceed in the future.

In this paper, the quantitative damage index for reinforced concrete (RC) columns with non-seismic details were presented. They are necessary to carry out the postearthquake safety evaluation of RC buildings under 5 stories without seismic details. The static cyclic test of the RC frame sub-assemblage that was an one span and actual-sized was first conducted. The specimen collapsed by the shear failure after flexural yielding of a column, lots of cracks on the surfaces of columns and beam-column joints and the cover concrete splitting at the bottom of columns occurred. The damage levels of these kinds of columns with non-seismic details were classified to five based on the load-displacement relationship by the test result. The residual story drift ratios and crack widths were then adapted as the quantitative index to evaluate the damage limit states because those values were comparatively easy to measure right after earthquakes. The highest one among the residual story drift ratios under the similar maximum story drift ratio decided on the residual story drift ratio of each damage limit state. On the other hand, the lowest and average ones among the respective residual shear and flexural widths under the similar maximum story drift ratio decided on the residual shear and flexural widths of each damage limit state, respectively. These values for each damage limit state resulted in being smaller than those by the international damage evaluation guidelines that are for seismically designed members under the same deformations.

Despite a number of advantages of reinforced earth walls over conventional concrete retaining walls, there exit concerns over long-term residual deformation when they are subjected to repeated and/or cyclic loads, especially when used as part of permanent structures. In view of these concerns, in this paper time-dependant deformation characteristics of geosynthetic reinforced modular block walls under sustained anuor repeated loads were investigated using reduced-scale model tests. The results indicated that a sustained or repeated load can yield appreciable magnitude of residual deformation, and that the residual deformations are influenced not only by the loading characteristics but by the mechanical properties of geogrid. It is also found that the preloading technique can be effectively used in controlling residual deformations of reinforced soils subjected to sustained and/or repeated loads.

Shot ball impacts to materials cause residual compressive stress on their surfaces. Improving the fatigue strength of a material that has this residual compress stress is the purpose of the shot peening process. A numerical study was performed to evaluate the effect of the strain rate sensitivity and hardness of the shot ball on the residual compressive stress. We calculated the residual compressive stress due to multiple impact shot peening using ABAQUS 6.9-1. AISI 4340 steel was the material used in this study. We compared the effects of high strain rate sensitivities and low strain rate sensitivities and found that when the material's sensitivity to the strain rate increased, the residual compressive stress decreased. In addition, the residual compressive stress of low-hardness material is higher than that of high-hardness material.

Welding is essential in ship production since welding is very popular method for joining two or more metals. However, welding causes residual stress and distortion and these give a bad influence to the structure strength and assembly of ship blocks. Therefore, prediction and treatment of residual stress and distortion is a key to accuracy control in shipyard. In this paper, a computational procedure, based on thermal-elastic-plastic 3-dimensional FEA, has been suggested to simulate butt and fillet welding process. In the simulation process, temperature distribution at each time step is obtained by heat transfer analysis and then thermal deformation analysis is done with obtained temperature distributions to find the residual stress and distortion. In heat transfer analysis, enthalpy method is used to realize phase change at melting temperature. Also element birth and death method is used to simulate adding of weld metal in both heat transfer analysis and thermal elastic plastic analysis. The proposed procedure is verified by related researches and the results show good agreement with those of related researches.
