Analysis of Dioxins and Furans from Bottom Ash Produced in an Municipal Solid Waste Incinerator (도시 소각로 시설의 고형 쓰레기 연소 후 생성된 바닥재 시료에 대한 다이옥신과 퓨란류의 분석)

  • Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs) are the most concerned toxic organic pollutants to human. Because of their extremely high toxicity and uncertain genotoxic potential, their determination in environmental and biological samples is of great interest. Municipal solid waste incinerator facilities have been reported as the major contributors of dioxins and furans to the environment, and their formation from combustion is a universal phenomenon, everywhere. In this study dioxins and furans were analyzed from the bottom ash produced during combustion in an municipal waste incinerator located in Seoul. The EPA method was modified for sample pretreatment: the soxhlet method was used for extraction and clean-up procedures were performed by using silica and basic alumina, excluding active-carbon. The extract was then analyzed by HRGC/HRMS. A general trend of increase in the amounts of 6∼7 chlorine-substituted dioxins and furans was observed. Total dioxins, furans and 2,3,7,8-TCDD were determined as 8.05 ng/g, 4.75 ng/g, and 6.93 pg/g, respectively.

  • The policy-making and technological development for the supply expansion of eco-friendly automobiles has been continuing, but the internal combustion engines still accounts for about 95%. Also, in order to meet the stricter emission regulations of internal combustion engines based on fossil fuels, the proportion of after-treatments for vehicles and (ocean going) vessels is gradually increasing. This study is a basic study for the post-Euro-VI exhaust response of CNG buses, and it is to investigate the basic characteristics according to Pd substitution transition metal effect, catalyst volume effect and space velocity. A catalysts was prepared and tested using a model gas reactor. The NGOC catalyst with 3Pd exhibited the highest catalytic activity with 22% at $300^{\circ}C$, 48% at $350^{\circ}C$ and about 75% at $500^{\circ}C$. 3Co NGOC containing 3wt% of transition metal was excellent in oxidation ability, and it was small in size of 2nm, and the degree of catalyst dispersion was improved and de-NO/CO conversion was high. The volume of the NGOC-LNT-SCR catalyst system was optimal in the combination of 1.5+0.5+0.5 with a total score of 165, considering $de-CH_4/NOx$ performance and catalyst cost. For SV $14,000h^{-1}$, the $CH_4$ reduction performance was the highest at about 20%, while the SV $56,000h^{-1}$ was the lowest at about 5%. If the space velocity is small, the flow velocity decreases and the time remaining in the catalyst volume become long, so that the harmful gas was reduced.

Monitoring of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon Residues in Environmental Samples in Korea (국내 PAHs 오염 우려지역의 환경 시료 중 PAHs 잔류량 모니터링)

  • The aim of this study was to determine the residual amounts of PAHs in environmental samples such as crop, soil and water collected from paddy, upland fields and forestlands near industrial zone and/or a thermal power plant in South Korea. All of the samples were analyzed by GC-mass spectrometer. The average contents of total PAHs in soil samples were 140.2 ${\mu}g\;kg^{-1}$ and the range was from 4.3 to $662.9{\mu}g\;kg^{-1}$. The detection of benzo(a)anthracene, chrysene, benzo(b)fluoranthene, benzo(k)fluoranthene, benzo(a)pyrene and dibenzo(a,h) anthracene which have strong carcinogenecity was ranged from 14.2 to 167.8 ${\mu}g\;kg^{-1}$. The residual amounts and detection frequency of PAHs in soil samples from the iron and heavy industrial areas near Pohang and Busan were 3-folds more than those of the other areas. Amounts of PAHs in upland soil samples was 1.5 folds higher than those of paddy soil samples, suggesting that it may be related to the content of organic matter in soil. The average contents of total PAHs in crop samples were 9.7 ${\mu}g\;kg^{-1}$ which ranged from 4.5 to 52.2 ${\mu}g\;kg^{-1}$. However, the residual amounts of PAHs in water samples were not detected. These results showed that soils and crops were slightly contaminated with PAHs. Therefore, the investigation should be continued for evaluating a safety or risk assessment through expansion of regions and crops.

  • Plasma Enhanced Atomic Layer Deposition(PEALD)와 Atomic Layer Deposition(ALD) Techniques는 '정확한 두께 조절' 및 '우수한 균일도'를 가지는 신뢰할 수 있는 진공 기술이다. 본 연구에서는 다공성 구조를 가지는 기판을 대상으로 PEALD와 ALD Techniques을 이용한 $Al_2O_3$ 형성 공정의 증착 특성을 비교하였다. 각 공정은 공통적으로 Tris-Methyl-Aluminium(TMA)을 첫번째 전구체로 사용하였고 purge gas로는 Nitrogen를 사용하였다. 그리고 두번째 전구체로 PEALD 공정에서는 Oxygen Plasma를 사용하였고 ALD 공정에서는 Water를 사용하였다. 복잡한 다공성 구조를 가지는 기판은 $TiO_2$ Nano-Particle paste과 colloidal Silver paste를 소결시켜 제작하여 사용하였다. 각 공정의 차이점을 비교하기 위해서 배기단에 Capacitor Diaphram Gauge(CDG)와 Residual Gas Analyzer(RGA)를 통해서 압력과 잔류 가스를 모니터하였다. 그리고 각 공정을 통해서 porous한 Nano-Particles Network에 형성된 $Al_2O_3$막의 특성을 비교하기 위해서 FE-SEM과 EDX를 통해서 관찰하였다. 또한 좀 더 자세한 비교 분석을 위해서 $Al_2O_3$ 막이 형성된 porous한 Nano-Particles Networks의 각 각의 particles들을 분산시켜 TEM과 AFM를 통해서 관찰하였다. 나아가 전기적 물성의 차이점을 비교하기 위해서 IV 및 CV를 측정하였다. 위의 일련의 비교 실험을 통해서 'PEALD과 ALD을 이용한 다공성 기판의 증착 특성'에 대하여 고찰하였다.

Plasma Facing Material 흡착기체의 정량적 분석을 위한 Thermal Desorption Analyzer (TDA) 개념 설계

  • 핵 융합로의 대면재질(Plasma Facing Material; PFM)은 고온의 플라즈마와 고 에너지의 이온들에 지속적으로 노출 된다. 특히 PFM은 흡착되는 기체 등에 의한 부식과 변형이 발생할 수 있다. 현재 핵 융합로 내부의 PFM으로 고려되고 있는 재질 중 하나인 고순도 탄소타일의 경우 고온의 수소동위원소 플라즈마에 직접적으로 노출되므로 이에 의한 탄소타일에 흡착되는 수소 등의 기체에 대한 정량적인 분석방법이 필요하다. 본 연구는 고순도 탄소타일 등과 같은 플라즈마 대면재료에 흡착되어 있는 물질의 정량적 분석이 가능한 TDA (Thermal Desorption Analyzer)의 개념 설계에 관한 것이다. TDA는 고온 가열($800^{\circ}C$ 이상) 및 시료 장착부 및 초고진공(~10-9 torr) 및 측정부의 두 부분으로 구성 하였다. TDA 설계시 고온 가열 및 시료 장착부는 시료 내부에 흡착되어 있는 기체의 효과적 탈착을 위한 가열 및 시료의 모양에 영향을 받지 않는 장착방법, 시료 장착부의 outgassing rate를 최소화 하는 재질 선정 등을 고려하였으며, 초고진공(~10-9 torr) 및 측정부는 초고진공 유지방법, 터보펌프 배기속도 실측을 위한 구조, 진공측정 ion 게이지, 잔류가스분석기(Residual Gas Analyzer)의 최적위치 설정 등을 고려하여 설계하였다. 개념 설계된 TDA에 대하여 발표하고자 한다.

KSTAR 2009 실험을 통하여 얻어진 플라즈마 대항부품 내 부의 수소 흡착량과 향후 고주파 가열에 미치는 효과 분석

  • 핵융합로에서 플라즈마 대항부품(Plasma facing components) 내부에 흡착되는 수소에 대한 조절은 삼중수소의 흡착으로 인한 운전시간 제한뿐만 아니라 원활한 토카막 방전유지를 위하여 매우 중요한 문제이다. 특히 고주파 가열에서는 수소를 소수종으로 사용하는 경우 수소 농도에 대한 수 % 이내의 정밀한 조절이 필요하므로 플라즈마 대항부품 내부의 수소 함유량에 대한 조절이 매우 중요하다. 2009 KSTAR 실험에서는 인보드와 아웃보드에 흑연재질의 플라즈마 대항부품을 사용하였다. 이들은 설치후 진공배기 이전까지 장시간 공기에 노출되었으므로 상당량의 수소와 물이 흡착되었으리라고 예상되었다. 본 발표에서는 잔류가스분석기 및 분광법을 이용하여 토카막 방전중의 수소와 중수소의 비율을 측정하였고 이들을 토카막 방전유지시간, 방전세정과정 등을 매개변수로 분석하였다. 한달여의 토카막 실험을 통하여 플라즈마 대항부품에 대한 활발한 세정활동이 이루어졌음에도 불구하고 중수소에 대한 수소의 농도는 50 % 근방의 값을 유지하였다. 2010년도 실험에서는 신규 설치되는 디버터도 흑연을 사용할 계획이므로 플라즈마 대항부품의 수소흡착량은 더욱 증가할 것이다. 따라서 2010년도에 KSTAR 플라즈마에서 효과적인 고주파 가열을 달성하기 위하여는 강력한 세정 활동을 포함한 수소의 농도 제거활동이 선행되어야한다.

Study of Improvement in Fatigue Life of Fuel Injection Pipe of Common Rail System (커먼레일 시스템 연료분사관의 피로수명 개선에 관한 연구)

  • The fuel injection pipe of a common rail system used in a clean diesel vehicle plays a role in supplying fuel from a rail to the injector of each cylinder connecting the engine under a repeated internal pressure. The fuel injection pressure is increased to over 200 MPa for satisfying EU emission standards and improving fuel efficiency, and a heading process and an autofrettage process are required for preventing folding defects and improving fatigue life. In this study, the flow stress and SN data of the material of the pipe are obtained through a tensile test and a fatigue test. The heading process for checking the folding defects of pipe ends is performed by using FEA. Furthermore, the optimal design of the autofrettage process for improving fatigue life considering not only the compressive residual stresses of the inner surface but also the tensile residual stresses of the outer surfaces of the pipe under the repeated internal pressure is performed by using FEA. To verify the process design, fatigue analysis for the autofrettaged pipe is performed.

A Statistical Survey of Foreign Bodies in Air and Food Passage (Report V) (식도 및 기도이물의 통계적 고찰(제5보))

  • Foreing bodies of the esophagus and tracheobronchus are likely to occur whenever a child places an inedible object in the mouth and are common in the older age group particularily in edentulous individuals or preexisting disease. Our department had already reported the statistical survey at first in 1954, successively in 1962, 1963 and 1968, respectively according to the age, sex, variety of foreign bodies, location and duration of the lodgement. Now, we have experienced the new 186 cases during the consecutive 5 year period from January 1973 to December 1977 and reported as a 5th report comparing with previous report. The results were as follows. 1. In the incidence of foreign bodies, coins were the most common and pointed metal, disc, bony fragment were followed in order in the esophagus while the peanut and corn were common in the air passage. 2) 79 cases (56.4%) were males and 61 cases (43.6%) were females in the esophagus, which was not a significant difference to note. But in the air passage, males accounted for 33 cases (71.7%) compared to 13 cases (28.3%) of females. 3) In the aspect of age incidence, child 10 years or under accounted for almost all cases in the esophagus as well as in the air passage. 4) In the location of foreign bodies in the esophagus, the first narrowing was the most common, while in the air passage right bronchus had a high incidence but the difference of incidence between right bronchus and left bronchus was not remarkable. 5) The duration of lodgement was 24 hours or less in more than half of the all cases. 6) In the aspect of kind of coin, 10 won coins accounted for majority of the cases (67.0%) but the incidence of 100 won coins were tend to increase gradually in these years.
