  • Building construction projects are performed by a number of sub-contractors specialized in diverse trades. Therefore information management among these constituents is quite challenging especially due to exponentially increasing manpower and material resources. In recognition of the importance of information management in project sites a number of systems have been suggested, but the application is limited one of the main reason is that general contractors use these systems and sub-contractor's participation understanding and financial ability are limited. Besides other problems such as loss along communication channel, distortion of information due to inefficient input device and tremendous amount of time and labor are required for collection analysis, and management of information to prepare a daily-report. Therefore the Purpose of this study is to improve reporting process through analyzing current daily reporting system. This paper also suggests the direction of the improved daily reporting system to enhance the performance of construction projects through incorporating sub-contractor's participation in daily reporting system.

  • As construction projects are getting more complex and larger in size, the amount of information is increased exponentially, which requires information management systems to accumulate as-built information throughout the project life-cycle. Particularly, a daily report system is very important, since it helps them keep track of various as-built information at the most detailed level. However, there have been many problems with daily reporting since its process is time-consuming and contains a lot of redundancies and ambiguities. Therefore, the objective of this research is to improve a process of collecting as-built information and managing daily report. To do so, this research developed a to-be process model and a daily report system. The daily report system developed in this research consists of interactive task generator and daily report management modules. The system has been successfully implemented in a real world construction project. The system development processes including process analysis, information models and system features are described along with discussions on the results and improvements.

  • Most construction works in a building site are progressed by many work categories and sub-contractors. Therefore there are many difficult things of management of construction-information because variable occurrences are happened to manpower and material resources. For this reason, various management systems are suggested, but the application of these systems are difficult because only construction company manages these systems and sub-contractor's participation, understanding and financial ability are insufficient. In addition to that, there are other problems such as lost information when it is carried, perversion and distrust of information by hand and lots of time and labor are necessary for collection, analysis, and management of information which are offered for daily report. so the purpose of this study is for improvement of reporting process with making an analysis of productivity effects and an analysis of function and problem of daily report. I intend to suggest the direction of improved daily report system for better productivity of construction work through input information and management of cooperation enterprises.

  • With the size of construction projects getting larger and more complex, the amount of information is increased exponentially. Although there are a lot of construction companies that try to accumulate as-built information from construction sites. it has not been quite satisfactory. This is due to the lack of task information framework that can measure project performance and collect as-built information. Therefore the objective of the paper is to identify the information that can be derived from daily reports and to suggest a unit task information framework to accumulate as-built information.

  • Recent construction projects, characterized by its complication and high-tech, requites highly efficient management efforts. Among others, labor management is very important due to various trades and increasing number of activities. Along with advanced information technology, Web-based construction site management systems are widely adopted in order to improve the efficiency of construction management. However, such information systems have mainly 2 (two) shortcomings. One is that the existing systems were developed and implemented not in subcontractor-centered way but in main contractor-centered way, though the daily construction information is mainly generated, gathered and reported by subcontractors. As a result, subcontractors seldom have access to such information systems. The other is that loss or omission of information may uclw during the information processing process, in which subcontractors have no direct access to such information system. This becomes a major reason of losing the reliability of the information in daily construction report. As a solution for these problems, this paper suggests a Web-based information system that is subcontractor-oriented and also suitable for tact schedule management.

  • The daily report includes the most detailed information and various daily planning and performance data recorded at a site, and includes work types, the number of workers, and the equipment and materials used. However, in the daily reporting process, some information can be omitted or distorted or even made redundant due to there being several steps of manual input. For this reason, the daily report is utilized for a simple report rather than for an appropriate purpose. Thus, to resolve the issues of the existing daily report system mentioned above, a daily report system using a digital pen was developed and then applied to an actual construction site to verify its applicability. As a result, it was found that 96.610% recognition accuracy of handwritten letters could be achieved. In addition, it was no longer necessary to enter the same information multiple times and no additional training or education for using a mobile device was needed. The digital pen-based daily report program developed in this study is expected to contribute to an improvement of information management efficiency and site document management work by addressing the problems of the existing report system.

  • A daily report is one of the critical documents in construction projects, since it helps them keep track of various as-built information. Despite the important role in progress management, the daily reporting process is time-consuming, and the representation of task information on daily reports are not effective enough to accumulate daily as-built information for further use in project management. Task information is composed of a specific work type and a location where the task is performed, which means that the same type of work is repeated over the locations. However, in many cases the task locations are described differently depending on a reporter's preference or experience. Without representing task location information effectively, it is difficult to accumulate and to reuse as-built information. The objective of this research is to build a framework for generating task information which can be efficiently accumulated and reused for progress management. To do so, this research built a task information model with focusing on the representation of task location associated with a work type, and developed an information system that supports automated and interactive generation of task information.

  • The management of daily work report is very important due to the variety of work trade and activities. Although various project management systems have been developed to effectively deal with various task in site, they are not in practical use due to the non-coorperative attitude of sub-contractors. This is the reason the system are not developed in the focus of sub-contractors, but main contractors and the detail information about daily work report is omitted or lost in the collection process by contractors. Therefore the purpose of this study was to propose the Web-based coordination system for daily work report between contractor and sub-contractors

  • Construction projects have shown a dramatic increase in size and complexity during the recent years that precise management has been recognized as one of key factors leading the project to success. It has been investigated that management in construction sites is generally done based on the experience of site engineers. Such experience based decision making lacks reliability that could bring disastrous results such as delay and cost overruns. The purpose of this study is to suggest a process progress pattern analysis method that is expected to be used as an objective reference for site managers to aid the decision making done regarding process progress management.
