  • The purpose of this study is to examine the factors that affect eating disorder of female adolescents. Collecting data from 297 female adolescents, we carried out logistice regression on SPSS Win 20.0. The significant predictors of eating disorder for female adolescents were BMI, body-shape satisfaction, subjective body-fatness, experience weight control (diet control and exercise), self-control, and body esteem. The results of this study may help to design a school health nursing program which treats female adolescents eating disorder.

  • This study examined a pathological gaming model based on escape model. With a data set collected from 825 Korean adolescents, the associations among academic stress, depression, self-esteem, self-control, and pathological gaming were tested. Academic stress increased the degree of depression while it decreased self-esteem and self-control. The declined self-control, in turn, exacerbated pathological gaming. Results and implicaitons were discussed.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to develop a predictive model for self-esteem of adolescents in multicultural families. The study was based on the theory of family stress model and literature review. Methods: This study used some of the data from the 1st year (2011) to the 6th year (2016) of the 'Multicultural Adolescents Panel Study (MAPS)'. Data analysis was conducted for 1,208 children and 1,208 mothers from the data of the 4th MAPS (2014), which was the first year of the middle school students. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS-WIN Version 20.0 and AMOS Version 20.0. Results: The factors that have influence on the self-esteem of multicultural adolescents are mother's parenting attitude and mother's self-esteem. The explanatory power of these variables was 14%. Conclusion: To increase the self-esteem of multicultural adolescents, a program that can positively change the self-esteem and parenting attitudes of multicultural mothers should be developed, and various social supports should be provided for multicultural mothers.

Methods: The research design was a quasi-experimental research with a nonequivalent control group non-synchronized pre-posttest. The recruited participants were forty-four 6th graders at an elementary school in G city. The research was carried out from September 10 to November 19, 2012. To test the effects of the Positive Peer Relationship Training Program, the participants were divided into two groups, an experimental group (23) and a control group (21). The Positive Peer Relationship Training Program was provided to the experiment group for 45 minutes/session twice a week, for 4 weeks. Data were analyzed using Fisher's exact probability test, $x^2$-test and t-test with the SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. Results: After attending the Positive Peer Relationship Training Program, no significant differences were found in self-esteem scores but significant differences were found in bullying and depression scores between the experimental group and the control group (t=1.27, p=.212, t=-2.10, p=.042; t=-2.37, p=.023). Conclusion: The results indicate that the Positive Peer Relationship Training Program is an effective nursing intervention for decreasing bullying and depression among Children in Early Adolescence.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the psychological characteristics of the elderly and to investigate the variables that affect the life satisfaction of the elderly. To achieve this purpose, psychological characteristics such as self-esteem, alienation, loss, and depression were selected. A survey was conducted on the elderly living in Gwangju Metropolitan City. A total of 218 copies were collected and 203 copies were analyzed, excluding poor responses. To draw the results of the research, quantitative analysis was conducted through questionnaires, and SPSSWIN 21.0 statistical program was used as an analysis tool. The analysis methods were frequency and ratio analysis, technical statistical analysis, bivariate correlation analysis, and linear regression analysis. The results of the analysis are as follows: First, the relationship between the psychological characteristics of the elderly showed significant correlations among the self-esteem, alienation, loss, depression, and life satisfaction of the elderly. Second, for the elderly, alienation and depression had a negative effect on life satisfaction, and self-esteem had a positive effect on life satisfaction. However, loss did not have a significant effect on life satisfaction. In conclusion, it suggests that it is necessary to develop and operate policies and programs to improve self-esteem and reduce alienation and depression in order to improve the quality of life of the elderly.

  • The present study aimed to emprically verify the materialistic pursuits process of undergraduates by applying the escape theory of materialism(Donnelly et al., 2016). Among the six steps of Donnelly's model, the first step is percieving that the fall short of high standards of life, as measured by external contingencies of self-worth. The second step is blaming the self for falling short of standards, as measured by self-discrepancy. The third step of high aversive self-awareness is measured by low stability of self-esteem. A total of 465(203 male and 262 female) college students participated in the online survey and the model was tested using structural equation model. We found that the relationship of external contingencies of self-worth and materialism was mediated by self-discrepancy and there was a sequential mediation effect of self-discrepancy and the stability of self-esteem. The direct effect of external contingencies of self-worth on materialism was also significant. This study is meaningful in that it used the escape theory to emprically verify the materialistic pursuit process of Korean undergraduates living in a meritocratic society.

  • This study examined the effects of a forest environment on internet addition and the self-esteem of internet-addicted adolescents. For comparison, the same group counseling programs were conducted in a classroom not in the forest. Twenty-four second grade students from a Middle School in S-city were grouped with 8 members in each group. Each group joined this program 6 times. The group results were then compared over a follow-up period. The dependent variables were the internet addiction scores and self-esteem scores. In the research results, the experimental group that undertook this program in the forest environment showed significantly different internet addiction scores compared to the control group immediately after the program and during the follow-up period. According to the period, the experimental group showed a significant difference in the internet addiction scores compared to the previous scores, immediately after the program and during the follow-up period. The comparison group showed no significant difference compared to the control group immediately after the program and during the follow-up period. The program in the forest environment showed a significant difference in the self-esteem scores compared to the comparison group and the control group immediately after the program and during the follow-up period. The self-esteem scores of the experimental group increased significantly compared to the comparison group and control group. In addition, the self-esteem scores of the comparison group also increased significantly, compared to the control group. The self-esteem scores of the experimental group also increased significantly, compared to the previous scores, immediately after the program and during the follow-up period. These results suggest that a natural environment, such as a forest, has therapeutic effects on decreasing the addiction symptoms' of internet addiction adolescents and also helps raise their self-esteem. Nevertheless, more study will be needed to verify what effects the forest environment have on the therapeutic mechanism on various addicts. Lastly, the constraints and implications of this research are described.
