자유항주 실험을 통한 세월호 사고 검토

  • 진도 앞바다에서 발생한 세월호의 사고원인 규면의 일환으로 세월호와 같은 모델을 제작하여 자유항주 실험을 실시하였다. 현재 세월호의 정확한 GM은 알 수 없고 추정치만 제시되고 있는 상황이다. 가장 객관적인 자료로는 세월호의 AIS항적이 유일하다고 볼 수 있다. 이에 사고당시의 세월호와 동일한 AIS 항적으로 이동할 수 있는 조건을 검토하여 자유항주 실험을 실시하였다. 그 결과 사고 당시 세월호의 AIS 항적과 유사한 자유항주 모형선의 실험결과를 얻을 수 있었다.

  • A ship runs with various modes of motion due to waves. Among the modes, roll mainly influences on the safety of cargos and crew's fatigue. Therefore a ship equipped with anti-rolling devices are on an increasing trend. In this research, we developed a free running model ship to evaluate the performances of fin stabilizer and moving weight stabilizer. Also those performance tests were carried out through the proposed test procedure.

  • IMO는 해상에서의 선박 안전 향상을 위해 선박의 복원성능과 조종성능에 관한 국제적 기준을 제시하고 있다. 이러한 기준은 선박 연구자가 수행하는 연구의 방향에도 영향을 미치고 있다. 기존의 수행된 연구는 복원성능과 조종성능의 각각의 분야에서 독립적으로 수행되어 왔으며, 아직 두 분야의 상호 관계에 관한 연구는 미비한 실정이다. 이에 본 논문에서는 선박의 복원성능과 조종성능의 상호 관계를 정량적으로 규명하고자 기초적인 실험 연구를 수행하였다. 이를 위해 복원성능을 나타내는 지표인 GM과 선박의 조종성능을 나타내는 지표인 선회성능을 통해 두 항복 간 상호 관계의 정량적 분석을 시도하였다. 자유항주 모형선을 이용한 선회 시험을 실시하였고, 그 결과 GM 감소에 따른 선회반경 감소 및 초기 횡경사 각도 증가를 확인했으며, 그 변화의 경향은 서로 다르게 나타나는 것을 확인하였다.

  • 파 중 선박 조종운동시험을 위하여 선박해양플랜트연구소 공학수조 내 자유항주시험 시스템을 구성하였다. 모형선 내에 제어계측 장비와 PC를 탑재하고 육상 관제 PC에서 원격 통제, 모니터링하며, 레이저 추적 방식으로 모형선 실시간 위치를 계측하였다. 준비된 시스템으로 KVLCC2 1/100 축소모형선의 규칙파 중 선회시험을 수행하였다. 파 중 선회성능은 초반의 전진거리, 전술직경, 정상선회 시의 궤적밀림 거리, 각도 등으로 지수화할 수 있다. 각 지수를 추출하여 분석하였고, 동일한 파장 조건에 대한 궤적밀림 경향은 유사함을 보였다.

A Study on the Relationship between Ship Stability and Maneuverability Using Free Running Model Experiments (자유항주 모형실험에 의한 선박의 복원성능과 조종성능 관계 연구)

  • The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has issued international standards for ship maneuverability and stability. These have been established to improve marine safety and influence the direction of research. The previous literature has been researched, but there are few studies on the relationship between ship maneuverability and stability. This study carried out a fundamental experiment to quantitatively evaluate that relationship. Radius of turn and maximum heel angle depending on changing were analyzed through a turning test using a free running model ship. The test results show the change tendency of decreasing turn radius and increasng maximum heel angle according to a GM decrease. A rough estimate equation is proposed to predict the change tendency on radius of turn and angle of maximum heel as GM decreases. Many ships can suddenly experience reduced GM due to unexpected reasons during sailing. The results in this study can be used as fundamental data to estimate a ship's tactical turn diameter and variable heel angle for steering as GM decreases.

  • In this paper, a free running system, which is developed recently for a 2m-class ship models, will be introduced. For the remote control of hardware, GUI of software packages was developed using Visual Basic 6.0, and Host PC with Positioning Board manages Servo drive. Then the drive operates propeller and rudder. Its control performance will be shown. Also its adaptability to the resistance, manoeuverability and seakeeping model tests will be considered through the installation on a KTTC standard ship model from MOERI.

A Experimental Study on the Effect of Increasing Rudder Force on Turning Ability of Short Sea Shipping Ship (타력 향상이 근해운송선박의 선회 성능에 미치는 영향에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Recently, a vessel's maneuvering performance is considered to be an important subject to secure safety at short sea shipping. Especially the high turning performance, which is required to avoid the marine pollution by the ships that was grounded, becomes more severe. In this paper, we discuss the effect of increasing rudder force on turning performance of short sea shipping ship by free running test in towing tank. First of all, we make the 47K PC model ship and high-lift rudder using Coanda effect. And we make the free running test system for the turning test in towing tank. And also we perform the turing test of 47K PC model in several changes of Coanda jet momentum and evaluate the turing performance such as advance and tactical diameter. Finally, we confirm that the increasing of rudder force is very effective to improvement of turning performance of short sea shipping ship.

A Study on the Prediction of the Maneuverability of Ships at Initial Design Stage, Considering Stern Form (초기설계시 선박의 선미 형상을 고려한 조종성능 추정에 관한 연구)

  • To predict the maneuverabiliy of a ship, it is most reliable to carry out the model tests for the ship. But, at the initial design stage of ships, scene other methods of predicting the overall maneuverabiliy of ships with confined data, like principal dimensions and propeller and rudder characteristics, are required. In this paper, the authors suggested new formulas for the linear derivatives of the sway force and yaw moment, based on the captive model test carried out by the Japanese researchers. These formulas can account the effects of stern frame line shape and stern profile, when assessing the maneuverability of ships. The usefulness of the formulas are discussed by comparing the simulations with the model tests.

  • A potential-based panel method has been developed to investigate the resistance characteristics of a high speed catamaran advancing on the free surface. Normal dipoles and sources are distributed on the body surface while sources are distributed on the free surface. Linearised free surface conditions are used in the present analysis. To avoid the instabilities due to the velocity difference between inner and outer flow of a high speed catamaran, Kutta condition has been applied at the stern. Model test has been carried out not only to validate the numerical results but to confirm the capabilities of a CWC(Circulating Water Channel). It is believed that we can obtain the qualitatively reasonable results in the CWC. Computed results are compared with those of experiments and Insel's experimental values. Since the Kutta condition is applied at the stern, stable solutions are obtained at the high speed range. The present method, using linearised free surface conditions at the high speed range, seems to be a useful tool in the hull form design of a high speed catamaran.

Prediction of Maneuverability of a Ship in the Initial Design Stage (초기설계시(初期設計時) 선박(船舶)의 조종성능(操縱性能) 추정(推定)에 관한 연구)

  • The assessment of maneuverability of a ship is very important from the view point of safety of human beings and of pollution of ocean. And, it is quite natural that every ship yard wants to have some tools with which they can build a ship with good maneuverability. But, maneuvarability of a ship is very subtle problem, and to calculate the exact maneuvering motion, lots of captive model tests must be carried out. Futhermore, in the initial design stage we can not make the scale model, because the lines of a ship is not fixed. In this paper, some approximate method to calculate the maneuvering motion of a ship, with the principal dimensions of hull, and propeller, rudder characteristics only, is studied. And, proposed approximate method is used to calculate the turning and zig-zag maneuver of several ships. The results of those calculations and the usability of the method are discussed.
