The research investigates the identification of necessary geographic information needed by forest fire suppression helicopter pilots, and the ways to acquire the required information from public institutions. Firefighting helicopter pilots demand 7 physical geographic and 13 human geographic data. Applying the geographical information acquired from Korean public institutions, the following 15 characteristics (3 physical geographic, 12 human geographic) can be found: altitude and highlands, river, high population and urban areas, roads, national park and state boundaries, fuel re-supply facilities, freshwater areas, cultural assets, (LPG)gas charging stations, gas stations, ammunition storage areas, ground power cables, and steel towers. Within the database of physical geography, there is a need for improvement on bird habitat details. Also, the availability of visibility, wind directions, and wind velocity data is limited and therefore requires refining. The location of refueling areas can be obtained by applying information received from institutions to the GIS spatial analysis.

바람은 지리산 자락으로 숨어들다 바위틈에 몸을 놓고 살을 부비며 친한 척 너스레다. 그렇지만 천년을 한결 같은 지리산 아니던가. 그 웅장한 자태를 짐짓 바꿔 바람을 맞을 리 없다. 지친 날개를 달래듯 한 숨 돌린 바람은 칭얼대듯 몇 번 더 휘돌다 짐짓 앵돌아진 계집아이처럼 등성이로 꼭대기로 휘휘 날아 논다. 무턱 없이 부는 바람을 따라 가노라니 어느덧 지리산 국립공원 사무소에 닿았다. 나공주 소장님의 반가운 웃음과 소승호 분소장님 등의 인사와 함께 궁금증을 참지 못한 박종규 기자의 문답이 이어졌다.

량강도 북부지역에서는 지질시대로부터 현대에 이르기까지 여러차례의 화산활동이 있어 자연경관을 훼멸, 복구하였다. 특히 갱신세에 분출된 현무암용암, 백두산 소백산에서의 알칼리성조면암의 발생, 800여년전에 분출한 부석은 원래의 자연경관을 훼멸,매몰하고 새로운 자연경관을 형성하기 시작하였다. 자연경관 형성에서 지질,지형,기후,식생,토양 등요소들이 종합적으로 작용하나 그중에서도 화산활동을 위주로한 지질작용이 주되는 인자로 되었다. 즉 용암의 분출에 의하여 본 지구의 지형을 1600m 높여 기후,식생,토양의 산지수직지대성을 형성하였고 강,호수의 형성도 식생,토양의 특성도 화산활동의 제한을 받았다. 모두어 말하면 본 지역의 자연경관은 800 여년 역사를 갖고 지금도 발전, 성숙과정에 있다. 본문에서는 백두산과 가까이 자리잡고 있는 량강도의 삼지연군, 대홍단군, 백암군, 보천군, 운훈군, 갑산군과 함경북도의 무산군, 연사군, 어랑군, 길주군의 일부지역 및 함경남도의 단천서북부가 포함된다. 지리위치로 보면 동경 128 도 16 분으로부터 동경 130 도 02 분까지이고 북위 42 도 10 분부터 북위 41 도 좌우이다.

This article focuses on the contents of physical geography described in elementary Manguk-Gygi, in the period commonly regarded as the Enlightenment Period in Korea. During this period, this textbook contains wide-range of facts and knowledges of worlds. The results are as follows. First, in written korean-chinese letters, people can easily interpret the contents of geography. Second, people can know conceptual understanding of difficult geomorphic words in accord with people's levels. Third, many information of world nations can be introduced by this book. Fourth, this book made a major contribution in overcoming traditional natural perspectives, by introducing foreign cultures, consists of contents of physical geography aimed at rational and objective perception of the nature. But it is possible to conclude that pro-Japanese education acted on the educational authorities could be carried out in Korea from the late of Nineteenth century.

효율적인 자연환경보전을 위한 방법론상의 선결과제는 자연환경에 대한 신뢰할 수 있는 기초조사 자료를 확보하고 이를 기반으로 하여 효율적인 보전정책을 수립하는 것이 필요하다. 우리나라의 환경부 등 관련기관이나 미국, 영국, 독일 등 각 국의 환경관련기관에서 사용하고 있는 자연환경에 대한 기초 자료는 대부분 현장조사에 기반을 두고 있거나 항공사진에 의거하여 확보되어지고 있다.(중략)

The purpose of this paper is to identify the authour of Baekdusanhaenggi, Yun Hwasu's understanding of place and the types of geographical knowledge shown in the book. He regarded ideologically the place as a paradise or a sacred land on the base of empirical understanding of it. Geographical knowledge in Baekdusanhaenggi was expressed as two main types; geographical content and geographical concept. The content of geographical knowledge consist of physical geography such as climates, vegetations, geographical features and human landscapes such as settlement landscapes, cultural landscapes. The geographical concept consist of locations, distances, regions.

For the Unification of Koreas in the future, we need to understand the geography education system of North Korea. This paper deals with the middle-school geography textbooks of North Korea, published in 2000 and as well as in 1990, in order to look for a better way of geography education after the Unification. One geography textbook is used for each grade, respectively, from the first to the fifth grade of the North Korea's middle-school (table 1). The North Korea's geography textbooks are immersed in the unreasonable idolization of the Kim's family and the excessive devotion to the socialist system. But they may suggest a significant implication in the improvement of geography terminology in South Korea because of their common use of genuine Korean words.

영동에는 1996년 4월부터 2002년 9월사이에 대형의 산불과 수해가 있었다. 이 산불과 수해는 역사이래 초유의 것으로 보도되기도 했다. 1996년과 2000년에는 고성군과 강릉ㆍ동해ㆍ삼척시 등지에서 26,000여ha의 숲이 '불바다'를 이루었고, 2002년에는 영동의 하천 거의 전부에서 크고 작은 '물난리'를 겪었다.(중략)

By reviewing the research papers and books about Korean geography published in China during the recent 20 years, the trend of research on the Korean geography in the filed of general and professional viewpoint was summarized in this paper. For general review, 4 major trends were observed. First, lots of research institutes have been newly established. Second, the amount of journals and books related to the Korean geography are keeping increasing. Third, a series of new academic results arc being achieved. Forth, academic exchange activities are being carried out actively in broader rangers. For professional geography study, researchers are more focused on the study of human geography rather than physical geography. And in the field of physical geography, studies about geology, earthquake and natural resource appeared livelier than others, while in human geography, studies about economic geography attract more interests. It was also observed that problems such as the research fields are limited and Jack of fundamental theory study exist. To solve these problems, the learned circles of Chinese geography should do more efforts, while an effort of introduction of achievements of Korean geography study to china by learned circles of Koran geography are also necessary.
