Maintaining a certain level of fisheries production is due to the increase in aquaculture production. In recent years, aquaculture plays an important role in fishery production in Korea. Nevertheless, aquaculture should be carefully managed by regulations because it also causes environmental load which can threat sustainability of aquaculture. For this reason, Korean government has regulated density of culturing facilities with the Fisheries Law and its adjective decrees. The regulatory compliance of fisheries businesses is very low because the criteria for the regulation of the density were not enacted with scientific research. Thus, this research was aimed to obtain scientific criteria for the regulation of oyster aquaculture in Jaran Bay with economic assessment. For this research, we collected the data necessary for the assessment on five investigation points in the bay for two years. With the data, simulation for the growth rate of oyster was performed and the result showed that at least 25.5% of facilities should be reduced. Also, it was revealed that removing 2 long lines would be most beneficial. The NPV of the best measurement was 35,120,300 won and IRR was 11.7%. With this research, the government will gain more accurate regulatory compliance due to the scientific approach. Moreover, fisheries businesses in oyster aquaculture can obtain flexibility to cope with market fluctuation.

A Ypsolophid moth Saridoscelis sphenias Meyrick was recorded in 2020 first in Korea, and specimens were collected from Jindo and Wando in Jeonam province from 2016 to 2017. This moth uses host plants such as Pieris japonica (Thunb.) D. Don ex G. Don, Vaccinium bracteatum Thunb. and Leucothoe grayana Maxim. var oblongifolia (Miq.). This species was discovered once in a blueberry orchard in Jeju in August 2014, and since then it has been regarded as not an established species because of no further detection. However, S. sphenias was found again in blueberry orchards grown in vinyl houses in Jeju city and Seogwipo city in 2018 and 2019. Since 2020, this pest has also been found on field-grown blueberries. Hatched larvae first bored into new shoots and fed inside, and the mid-aged larvae escaped from the inside of shoots, attached several shoots with webs, and fed on the leaves in the group. It is considered that S. sphenias will become a severe pest on blueberries; thus, we report the basic life cycle here.
The trials were carried out for improvement of early maturing wheat varieties, desease resistant and good quality through transfering good characters of barley to the wheat, during 1980-'81. For these purpose, Chinese Spring, a wheat variety was used as male and Manker 16 a barley variety, as female parents. EACA($\varepsilon$-Amino Caprolic Acid) known as an inhibitor of blood coagulation was injected to all barley from 14 days until heading with 1$m\ell$ per culm at the level of 500ppM. $GA_3$ solution which accelerates pollen activity was also used with 75ppM concentration after pollination for two days including check to determine the single effect of EACA. Two different methods of the cross were used. One was bud-pollination, another was post-pollination. The result indicated that the post-pollination was better than bud-pollination in terms of pollination rate, even though formation rate of normal embryo was seemingly adversed. The new plant derived from barley-wheat cross was similar in phenotype to the wheat.
This study was carried out to evaluate the visual turfgrass's color quality, winter color, and spring green-up under three different soil systems and to make a practical use for sports turf design and construction. Several turfgrasses were evaluated in multi-layer, USGA and mono-layer systems. Turfgrass entries in the study comprised of 3 cultivars from Korean lawngrass (Zoysia japonica Steud.) of typical warm-season grass (WSG) and 3 blends and 3 mixtures from Kentucky bluegrass (KB, Poa pratensis L.), perennial ryegrass (PR, Lolium perenne L.), and tall fescue (TF, Festuca arundinacea Schreb.) of cool-season grass (CSG). Significant differences were observed in the turfgrass's color quality, winter color, and spring green-up in the study. Seasonal variation of visual turf color greatly occurred according to soil systems and turfgrasses. Multi-layer and USGA systems were highly associated with better visual color ratings, as compared with mono-layer system. Regardless of soil system, visual turf color in all entries was better from spring to fall than in winter. Great color differences were observed during a period of early December to early spring. CSG produced a better color quality over WSG in any soil system. Overall color ratings for CSG were KB > PR > Mixtures > TF. As for a winter color, its ranking was USGA > multi-layer > mono-layer system. No difference was found in winter among cultivars of Korean lawngrass, being completely brown, but great differences among CSG. Rated best for winter color was PR, followed by CSG mixtures, KB and finally TF in order. It was generally conceded that fast green-up in spring was greatly related with multi-layer over mono-layer system and also CSG over WSG. Among CSG, TF had a fastest green-up. PR was also fast in green-up, but poor in color uniformity. KB, however, was the slowest due to shallow rooting system, when compared with other CSGs. These results demonstrate color differences were greatly variable according to soil systems and also among turfgrass species. A precise decision should be made in selecting turfgrass species and soil system. Multi-layer and USGA systems were considered as the suitable one for turfgrass color quality, winter color and spring green-up. It is a great necessity to combine proper soil system, right turfgrass species, and appropriate mixing rates by a concept-oriented approach, when establishing garden, parks, soccer field, and golf courses and so on.
The effect of N forms ($NO_3{^-}-N$, $NH_4{^+}-N$) and concentrations (4, 8, $16meq/{\ell}$) which were changed at head formation stage on the tip-burn incidence of chinese cabbage was studied under the three levels (0, 8, 16 meq/l) of Ca. All of the plants grown on $NH_4{^+}-N$ showed the symptoms of tip-burn and low yields regardless of Ca levels. Roots of plants grown on $NH_4{^+}-N$ were severely damaged. The pH of the leachate from $NH_4{^+}-N$ pot was decreased to below pH 5. Plants which had been grown on $NH_4{^+}-N$ before the head formation stage, but changed to $NO_3{^-}-N$ were recovered from abnormal growth. But, the reverse showed the tip-burn symptoms. $NH_4{^+}-N$ treatments increased the T-N contents, but lowered K and Ca contents of inner leafblades. Icreased applications of Ca did not affect the T-N and K contents of the inner leafblades. $NH_4{^+}-N$ suppressed Ca translocation into the inner leaves from outer leaves after the head formation stage, but $NO_3{^-}-N$ accelarated it. Ca contents were much lower in leaves showing tip-burn symptoms than in healthy leaves. Internal rot which is a tip-burn symptom occuring after head formation were noted in plants applied with high concentration of $NO_3{^-}-N$ both before and after the head formation stage. Ca contents correlated well with the rates of Ca application, but there was no correlation between ca conents and internal rot incidence. Chinese cabbage tip-burn is not caused by Ca deficiency, as is commonly believed, but rather by the water stress (95% water contents in $NO_3{^-}$-fed plants, 91% in $NH_4{^+}$-fed plants) resulting from root damage caused by ammonium toxicity. Internal rot is also caused by excess applications of nitrogen, and is unaffected by calcium levels.
Red and blue lights are effective wavelengths for photosynthesis in plants. In this study, we determined the effects of various combined ratios of red to blue LEDs on the quality of cherry tomato seedlings prior to transplantation, and their subsequent effects on the yield and quality of tomato fruits after transplanting. Two-week-old cherry tomato seedlings (Solanum lycopersicum cv. 'Cuty') were cultivated under various combined ratios of red (R; peak wavelength 655 nm) to blue (B; 456 nm) LEDs [red:blue = 41:59 (59B), 53:47 (47B), 65:35 (35B), 74:26 (26B), 87:13 (13B), or 100:0 (0B)] and fluorescent lamps and raised for 27 days. The cherry tomato seedlings were subsequently transplanted into a venlo-type greenhouse and cultivated for 75 days. At the seedling stage, the shoot fresh weight of seedlings in all RB combined treatments, except 0B and 59B, was higher than that of the control after 27 days of LED treatment. Shoot dry weight and leaf area also showed trends similar to that of shoot fresh weight. The stem length was significantly higher in 13B, 26B, and 35B treatments compared with the control and other treatments. In particular, the stem length of 26B plants was approximately 3.2 times longer than that of 59B plants. At 37 days after transplanting, the number of nodes was significantly higher in 26B and 47B plants, and the plant height of 26B plants was significantly higher than that of control and 59B plants. Total fruit yield in 26B plants, which was the highest, was approximately 1.6 and 1.8 times higher than that in control and 59B plants, respectively. Thus, the results of this study indicate that various combined ratios of red to blue LEDs directly affected to the growth of cherry tomato seedlings and may also affect parameters of reproductive growth such as fruit yield after transplantation.

A field experiment was conduted to determine the effects of shading degrees (O: full sunlight, 25, 50 and 75%) on the proximate components, cell wall constituents (CWC), digestibility, water soluble carbohydrates (WSC) and nitrate nitrogen ($NO_3$-N) concentration of grasses grown in forest. For the test different artificial shading houses were established and pasutre species used were orchardgrass, timothy, perennial ryegrass and ladino clover. the experiment was performed at LES in Suwon, 1985 1. Considering proximate components, CWC and digestibility of grasses, ladino clover showed the best quality, and then perennial ryegrass. 2. The contents of crude protein, crude ash, and digestibility of grasses were increased with shadking, regardless of pasture species. As the shading degrees are increased, the contents of crude fibe in orchardgrass, perennial ryegrass and timothy were decreased, while that in ladino clover was increased with shading. 3. Grasses grwon in spring showed higher digestibility than those grwon in summer season. 4. The content of WSC was the highest in perennial ryegrass, and then ladino clover, orchardgrass, and timothy, in that order. Also WSC was decreased as the shading degrees are in creased. 5. The content of $NO_3$-N was the highest in perennial ryegrass, and then orchardgrass, ladino clover and timothy, in that order. Also the $NO_3$-N was significantly increased with higher shading level. In the regression equation between shading degrees and $NO_3$-N ($r^2=0.90^{**},\;r^2=0.95^{**}$), shading degree of 43 to 44% was critical level, causing nitrate poisoning to animal. 6. Considering grass quality, dry matter yield and $NO_3$-N, less than 40% of shading degree (over 60% of full sunlight) was desirable for better grassland improvement, management and utilization in the forest.

Multidrug resistance(MDR) phenotype is frequently observed in animal and human cancer cell lines selected for in vitro resistance to a single chemotherapeutic agent. It is characterized by the diminished drug accumulation and is related to the drug efflux mechanism in resistant cells. In the present study, adriamycin resistant cells(L1210-$AdR_6$ : $10^{-6}M$ adriamycin, $-AdR_5$ : $10^{-5}M$) and vincristine resistant cells (L1210-$VcR_7$ : $10^{-7}M$ vincristine, $-VcR_6$ : $10^{-6}M$) were produced from mouse lymphoblastic leukemia cell line L1210. Growth profiles of survived cells were observed for 5 days with MTT(thiazolyl blue) assay and resistance was compared with $IC_{50}$(drug concentration of 50% survival reduction in absorbance). Resistant cells proliferated more slowly than sensitive cell. Doubling times were 29.7hr in L1210, 68.7hr in L1210-$AdR_5$ and 58.2hr in $-VcR_6$. MDRs expressed as resistance factor were as follows, L1210-$AdR_5$ was 76.4 times for vincristine, L1210-$VcR_6$ was 96.4 times for adriamycin. The cell membrane proteins with three different M.W. were recognized to be related resistance, 220, 158, and 88 kd in L1210-$AdR_5$, 158, 140 and 88 kd in L1210-$VcR_6$ by SDS-PAG electrophoresis. Cell surface membrane proteins were identified by radio-iodination and autoradiogram, their molecular weights were 158, 72.8, and 42.4 Kd in L1210-$VcR_6$.
The final aim of this study is to develop a biofiltration system integrated with plant vegetation for improving indoor air quality effectively depending on indoor space and characteristics. However, to approach this final goal, several requirements such as constant pressure drops (PDs) and soil moisture contents (SMCs), which influence the capacity design for a proper ventilation rate of biofiltration system, should be satisfied. Thus, this fundamental experiment was carried out to adjust a proper wind speed and to ensure a stabilization of initial SMCs within biofilter for uniform distribution of SMCs and PDs, and for normal plant growth, especially avoiding root stress by wind. Therefore, we designed horizontal biofliter models and manufactured them, and then calculated the ventilation rate, air residence time, and air-liquid ration based on the biofilter depending on three levels of wind speed (1, 2, and $3cm{\cdot}s^{-1}$). The relative humidity (RH) and PD of the humidified air coming out through the soil within the biofilter, and SMC of the soil and plant growth parameters of lettuce and duffy fern grown within biofilter were measured depending on the three levels of wind speed. As a result of wind speed test, $3{\cdot}sec^{-1}$ was suitable to keep up a proper RH, SMC, and plant growth. Thus, the next experiment was set up to be two levels of initial SMCs (low and high initial SMC, 18.5 and 28.7%) within each biofilter operated and a non-biofiltered control (initial SMC, 29.7%) on the same wind speed ($3cm{\cdot}sec^{-1}$), and measured on the RH and PD of the air coming out through the soil within the biofilter, and SMC of the soil and plant growth parameters of Humata tyermani grown within biofilter. This result was similar to the first results on RHs, SMCs, and PDs keeping up with constant levels, and three SMCs did not show any significant difference on plant growth parameters. However, two biofiltered SMCs enhanced dry weights of the plants slightly than non-biofiltered SMC. Thus, the stability of this biofiler system keeping up major physical factors (SMC and PD) deserved to be adopted for designing an advanced integrated biofilter model in the near future.
