  • Instagram, a photo and image centered social networking service, has received increasing attention these days, from scholars and practitioners. However, little is known about the social and psychological factors that lead consumers to use this service. To provide a baseline understanding on Instagram users, the current study was conducted to discover perfectionistic self-presentation tendency expressed by the Instagram users and explore the relationships between identified perfectionistic self-presentation and intention to use Instagram variables with 250 participants. In addition, this study tried to determine the moderator effect of self-efficacy and self-construal. A comprehensive survey was directed and a total of 380 participants were recruited to verify anticipated hypotheses and research questions. The research results suggest that perfectionistic self-presentation has five sub factors: others conscious self-presentation, subjective self-presentation, environmental adaptation self-presentation, self-expansion self-presentation, and social self-presentation. The implications of this research findings are discussed.

  • This paper presents the method for the automatic tuning of a design weighting polynomial parameter of a generalized minimum-variance stochastic self tuning controller which adapts to changes in the system parameters with time delays and noises. The self tuning effect is achieved through the recursive least square algorithm at the parameter estimation stage and also through the Robbins-Monro algorithm at the stage of optimizing a design weighting polynomial parameters. The proposed self tuning method is simple and effective compared with other existing self tuning methods. The computer simulation results are presented to illustrate the procedure and to show the performance of the control system.

  • We employed meta-analysis to identify associations between self-compassion and various psychological variables using Korean literature. Various psychological variables were categorized by mutual consent of researchers who referred to the relative previous researches and hand books of psychology. We gathered 114 dissertations and journal articles published in Korea until now, including a total of 423 effect sizes, and calculated mean effect sizes using CMA2. We found large effect sizes for the relationships between self-compassion and positive psychological variables group of r = .45, and between self-compassion and negative psychological variables group of r = -.44. In addition, sub forms of positive psychological variables group and negative psychological variables group had statistically significant relationships with self-compassion. According to the results, we determined that self-compassion is an important explanatory and meaningful variable in understanding psychology of Korean. This study could help explore and develop the evidence for self-compassion in psychology.

  • Time-reversal processing (TRP) has been shown as an effective way to focus in both time and space. The temporal focusing properties have been used extensively in underwater acoustics communications. Recently. adaptive time-reversal processing (ATRP) was applied to the simultaneous multiple focusing in an ocean waveguide. In this study. multiple focusing with ATRP is extended to the underwater acoustic communication algorithm for multiple receiving locations. The developed algorithm is applied to the underwater acoustic communication to show, via simulation and real data, that the simultaneous self-equalization at multiple receiving locations is achieved.

  • In Part Ⅰ of the paper, we have developed various block least mean-square (BLMS) adaptive digital filters (ADF's) based on a unified matrix treatment. In Part Ⅱ we analyze the convergence behaviors of the self-orthogonalizing frequency-domain BLMS (FBLMS) ADF and the unconstrained FBLMS (UFBLMS) ADF both for the overlap-save and overlap-add sectioning methods. We first show that, unlike the FBLMS ADF with a constant convergence factor, the convergence behavior of the self-orthogonalizing FBLMS ADF is governed by the same autocorrelation matrix as that of the UFBLMS ADF. We then show that the optimum solution of the UFBLMS ADF is the same as that of the constrained FBLMS ADF when the filter length is sufficiently long. The mean of the weight vector of the UFBLMS ADF is also shown to converge to the optimum Wiener weight vector under a proper condition. However, the steady-state mean-squared error(MSE) of the UFBLMS ADF turns out to be slightly worse than that of the constrained algorithm if the same convergence constant is used in both cases. On the other hand, when the filter length is not sufficiently long, while the constrained FBLMS ADF yields poor performance, the performance of the UFBLMS ADF can be improved to some extent by utilizing its extended filter-length capability. As for the self-orthogonalizing FBLMS ADF, we study how we can approximate the autocorrelation matrix by a diagonal matrix in the frequency domain. We also analyze the steady-state MSE's of the self-orthogonalizing FBLMS ADF's with and without the constant. Finally, we present various simulation results to verify our analytical results.

  • This paper deals with the performance comparison of adaptive equalization algorithm, MMA and SCA, that is used for the minimization of the distortion and noise effect in the communication channel.. The transmitting signal will be distorted and received due to the nonlinearties of magnitude and phase transfer characteristics of communication channel, the compensation of it by using the self adaptive equalizer. The constant modulus has important metric in the self adaptive equalizer, the MMA uses the 2nd and 4th high order statistics of transmitting signal, the SCA uses the 2nd order statistics of transmitting signal only in order to the calculation of it. We compared to the compensation performance of the MMA and SCA by the computer simulation that are possible to the compensation of the two kinds of transfer characteristics at same times by the relatively simple arithmatic operation. We used to the recovered constellation, residual isi and MSE, SER that are the essential index for the comparison of the adaptive equalizer. The result of performance comparison of algorithms, the MMA which uses the high order statistics of transmitting signal has good performance in the MSE and SER compared to the SCA which is using the low order statistics. But in the recovered costellation and residual isi, the SCA has a good than the MMA.

  • The major purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of intergenerational transmission of self-differentiation on psychological adjustment of college students. Specifically, the present study endeavored to test the causal model focusing on the effect of the father's and the mother's self-differentiation on college student's psychological adjustment through the student's self-differentiation. The data were collected from 254 male and 293 female college students and their parents by using self-administered questionnaire method. The casual model was tested through structural equation model by using AMOS 7.0 program. The results showed that mother's and father's self-differentiation had direct and indirect effect on student's psychological adjustment. The results showed that both mother's and father's self-differentiation had direct effect on son's self-differentiation level, which directly influenced his psychological adjustment. The test of structural equation model also revealed that daughter's self-differentiation level was positively influenced only by mother's self-differentiation, while father's self-differentiation did not influenced female student's self-differentiation. Both male and female student's psychological adjustment was directly influenced by his or her self-differentiation level.

  • Given the evolving nature of the family unit, a large number of children are being left unsupervised after school. The purpose of this study is to understand the adaptation ability and emotional capacity of these children. To achieve this objective, we investigated the different characteristics of 708 middle-school students in Seoul, dividing them into two categories adult-care children, for whom adults provide care after school, and self-care children for whom no adult supervision was present. In particular, we examined children's adaptation to the school environment and possible self-consciousness difference between self-care and adult-care children, in consideration of their family characteristic; divorced, separated, widowed parent, remarried parents, ordinary families. The results showed that self-care children tend to have a higher rate of shame-proneness and guilt-proneness compared to adult-care children. Furthermore, self-care children exhibited lower school adaptation rate than adult-care children. There was no significant difference in schoolmate relationships between the two groups. In relation to specific family structures, children from reorganized families showed no significant differences in school adaptation and self-conscious, while self-care children from ordinary families revealed low school adaptation and high self-conscious characteristics. The results of this study are critical in the effective analysis and understanding of children's adaptive and emotional behaviors arising from changes in their family structure.
