Air-gap Disturbance Attenuation of Magnetic Levitation Systems using Discrete Kalman Filter (이산형 칼만필터를 이용한 자기부상시스템의 공극외란 감쇄)

  • Conventional magnetic levitation systems could show unsatisfactory performance under air-gap disturbance due to rail irregularities. In this paper, we propose a feedback control system with discrete Kalman filter for air-gap disturbance attenuation. It is shown that excellent system performance can be obtained with the use of discrete Kalman filter, and that results from experiments agree well with those of simulations.

  • A magnetic levitation system with hybrid magnets, which is composed of permanent magnets and electromagnets, consumes less power than the conventional attraction type system. In this paper, we propose PID controller and PID-Fuzzy controller for hybrid magnet. We first present "constant gap" control technology with PID controller. Secondly, "zero power" control technology with PID-Fuzzy hybrid controller is presented.roller is presented.

  • Magnet core and rail of a magnetically levitated vehicle are usually made of highly conductive materials. Accordingly, eddy currents are induced in those members. Eddy currents often lead to a decrement of levitation and guidance force. This paper has calculated the decrement of both forces due to eddy current generated by magnet's vertical and lateral motion. U-shaped electromagnet and rail were chosen as amodel of 2D finite element analysis. Calculated results proved that both forces dropped significantly at high speed. Consequently, effects of eddy current should be considered in designing the magnet and control system.

  • The MAGLEV (Magnetically Levitated Vehicle) system, which is under commercialization as a new transportation system in Korea, is operated by means of unmanned automatic control system. Therefore the plan of train operation should be carefully established and validated in advance. In general, when making the train operation plan, the statistically predicted traffic data is used. However, traffic wave can occur when real train service is operated, and the demand-driven simulation technology is required to review train operation plans and service qualities considering traffic wave. This paper presents a method and model to simulate the MAGLEV's operation considering continuous demand changes. For this purpose, we employed the discrete event model which is suitable for modeling the behavior of railway passenger transportation, and modeled the system hierarchically using DEVS (Discrete Event System Specification) formalism. In addition, through the implementation and experiment using DEVSim++ simulation environment, we tested the feasibility of the proposed model and it is also verified that our demand-driven simulation technology could be used for the prior review of the train operation plans and strategies.

  • A mathematical modeling for a magnetic levitation system is proposed using the Taylor series expansion of differential function for obtaining linearity. It is confirmed that this kind of linear approximation method can be used to the modeling of a magnetic levitation system. The two-degree-of-freedom optimal servo system for a constant reference signal is proposed using the LQ optimization technique. An additional state feedback is introduced at the output of the integrator to cancel the integral action for reference signal if there is no modeling error of the plant and no disturbance input to the plant. When the modeling error or the disturbance input exists, the integral effect appears. The system has a free parameter which can b used to tune the effect of the integral compensation.

  • In this paper, an analysis of lift and lateral forces as a function of speed in electromagnetic suspension system (EMS) using the finite element method is presented. It is shown that, as in the case of the lift force, the lateral restoring force decreases with increasing speed, and the lateral dynamic characterisitic for lateral disturbance at low speed is different from that at high speed.

  • Interest in advanced vehicles results in correspondingly increased interest in modeling and simulation of the dynamic behavior of Maglev-type vehicle systems. DADS is a program especially suited for the analysis of multibody mechanical systems. This paper demonstrates the application of DADS to the dynamic modeling and simulation of such advanced vehicles. A brief description is made of the modeling requirements of magnetically levitated systems, along with a summary of some of the related capabilities of DADS. As a case study, an analysis of a vehicle based on the UTM01 system is presented. This paper shows that the presented modeling technique is applicable to the dynamic characteristics evaluation and control law design of Maglev- type vehicles.

  • In this paper, a levitation control circuit for a magnetic levitation system supplied with a battery is designed. The control circuit consists of DSP, 4-quadrant chopper, and gap sensor as feedback sensors. Moreover the DSP includes PWM generator, A/D converter, etc. The feedback signals from gap sensors go into A/D converter of DSP to compare with reference. As a result, The design procedures of the levitation control circuit and battery power distribution system are described and basic experiment results are shown.
