This study was a descriptive research on the level of self-care available to continous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis patients (hereinafter referred to as 'CAPD patient') related to the specific area of infection management. The method employed for the collection of data was a modified instrument of the self-care survey essentially based on Young Sook Choi's instrument. The relevant data was collected from september 1, 1996 to september 30, 1996. The subjects were provided with an open-ended question regarding the reasons behind why they did not seek self-care. The answers provided about self-care compliance were analyzed by SPSS for frequency, percentage, mean, t-test, ANOVA. Reasons for non-compliance were analyzed by content analysis. The results of the study were as follows : 1. The percentage of patients engaging in self-care were according to the following self performed tasks : preparation of dialysis : 30.58 points Dialysate exchange procedures : 49.40 points - Two bag type : 50.50 points - Spike type : 48.80 points - Neo type : 48.90 points Catheter exit site care : 25.13 points More specifically, in relation to the preparation of dialysis as referred to above, those patients engaging in self care was relatively high with respect to the cleaning of the dialysis before use and for the preservation of peritosol. However, in dialysate exchange procedures, data revealed that those patients engaging in self-care are relatively low with respect to putting on a mask during the performance of peritosol exchange. Similary in peritosol exchange procedure and catheter exit care, low levels of self-care performance were found in the area of putting on a mask during the peritosol exchange procedures and catheter line testing procedures, respectively. 2. In general characteristics, there appeared to be no distinction in self-care compliance among CAPD patients. 3. The main reasons for non-compliance were based in the following factor : intellectual, attitude, enviromental surrounding and physical. As a result of the foregoing finding, nurses should provide adequate assistance to promote self-care compliance by CAPD patients by checking the preparation of dialysis, dialysate exchange procedure, and catheter exit site care which recieved low point in this research.
Purpose: This study was to develop and prove the effects of aself management compliance promotion program for primary hypertension patients who reside in rural communities. Method: The content of the self management compliance promotion program developed by this study was as follows: A leader trains patients as a group or individually, in walking, education and green tea therapy from the first to twelfth week. From the thirteenth to twenty fourth week, the patients should perform walking and green tea therapy by themselves. One hundred twenty subjects volunteered to participate in the study, who were among those registered as hypertension patients in the 14 community health clinics located in Chungcheongbuk-do. Result: Systolic blood pressure, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglyceride, step width, and degree of obesity decreased significantly. High-density lipoprotein cholesterol, step length, knowledge of hypertension, and self management compliance significantly increased, Conclusion: A self management compliance promotion program for primary hypertensive patients enhances biophysical index and knowledge on hypertension, thus ultimately suggesting a nursing intervention for promoting self management compliance.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Hypertension Self-Care Behavior Scale for older adults with hypertension in Korea. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was used with 196 participants. Translation and back-translation were performed by bilingual nursing professionals and a nutritionist. Reliability and validity such as content validity, construct validity, and concurrent validity were conducted. To evaluate the concurrent validity, the correlation coefficients between the Korean version of Hypertension Self-Care Behavior and concurrent scales (hypertension adherence scale and self-efficacy scale) were calculated. Results: The total 20 items for the Korean version of the Hypertension Self-Care (HBP-SC) Behavior Scale were retained during item-analysis. In explanatory factor analysis, a two-factor solution was proposed and the two factors named, 'HBP-SC Diet behavior' and 'HBP-SC Health behavior (except diet)'. The two factors accounted for 48.9% of the variances. The Korean version of the Hypertension Self-Care Behavior Scale correlated with concurrent variables such as hypertension adherence and self-efficacy. For reliability of the Korean version of the Hypertension Self-Care Behavior, Cronbach's ${\alpha}=.92$. Conclusion: Findings show that the Korean version of the Hypertension Self-Care Behavior is reliable and valid for measuring self-care behavior of older adults with hypertension.

Purpose: This study was to analyze adherence to self-care behaviors and identify factors affecting the adherence behaviors among inpatients with heart failure. Methods: A total 94 hospitalized inpatients from three hospitals participated in a survey. Data were collected using structured self-reported questionnaire from November 28, 2011 to March 31, 2013 and analyzed using frequency, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression. Results: The score of adherence to self-care behaviors among inpatients with heart failure was $26.02({\pm}8.84)$. Factors related to the adherence to self-care behaviors were living with spouse (t=-2.47, p=.019), functional state (t=2.18, p=.034), heart failure knowledge (r=-.49, p<.001), social support (r=-.35, p<.001), self-control (r=-.25, p=.016), and self-care confidence (r=-.24, p=.019). The factors affecting adherence to self-care behaviors were heart failure knowledge, self-care confidence, and social support. These factors explained 32% of the variance in adherence to self-care behaviors. Conclusion: The adherence to self-care behaviors with heart failure can be improved if heart failure knowledge, self-care confidence, and social support are improved. Therefore, developing a nursing intervention program for patient with heart failure that is considered these factors leads to improve quality of life and prevent readmission.
The purpose of this study was to compare the health promoting behaviors between nursing students and general college students. The participants were 210 students(100 nursing students, 110 general college students). Data were collected by self-reported questionnaires and analyzed by SPSS/WIN 23.0 program. There were not significant differences between two groups in the health promoting behaviors(t=-0.489, p=625). But, significant differences were found in sub-categories of health promoting behaviors according to gender, taking health-related lectures, smoking, and perceived health status. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and intervene various health education programs in order to promote the health of university students in cooperation with universities and local community health organizations.

This study was conducted to identify the level of diabetes self-care knowledge, confidence, behavior and quality of life in elderly people with diabetes. The participants were 205 elderly with diabetes who visited a citizen health center located in D city. Korea. The data were collected from April, 20th to August 31th, 2015, and were analyzed by the t-test and ANOVA. The results were as follows; 1) The mean scores for diabetes self-care knowledge, confidence, behavior, and quality of life were 6.99 (2.17), 71.27 (10.21), 62.78 (1.29) and 0.86, respectively. 2) There were significant differences in the self-care behavior according to the education level, duration of diabetes mellitus and subjective health, and the quality of life differeddepending on the level of subjective health(F=35.253, p=0.000). 3) Knowledge of diabetes diet was the lowest among the various aspects of diabetes self-care knowledge. Confidence for exercise was lowest, while confidence for medication and blood sugar check was highest. However, the participants exhibited good medication behavior, whereasthey did not carry out blood glucose checks in their self-care management behavior. The most uncomfortable aspect of the quality of life was found to be pain and discomfort. Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to develop guidelines and methods for dietary education reflecting the dietary habits of Koreans, and to investigatethe reasonsfor thelow performance of theblood glucose check. In addition, customized nursing interventionstaking into consideration the characteristics of elderly with diabetes need to be developed and verified.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify knowledge, facilitators, and barriers of breast self-examination(BSE) in Korean couples for developing a continuous regular BSE promotion program. Method: This descriptive study was undertaken with a focus group methodology including 27 couples of husbands and wives recruited by convenience-sampling. Data transcribed from audiotapes was analyzed to identify common themes. Results: Knowledge of breast cancer and BSE included 'the risk factors of breast cancer', 'prevention of breast cancer', and 'how to do BSE'. Facilitators to BSE included 'self, health professional, and spouse-facilitating factors'. Barriers to BSE included 'cognitive, psychological, informational, and physical barriers'. Conclusion: To promote compliance with BSE among women, tailored programs according to the stage of change of BSE adoption are crucial, not only reflecting the specific needs of the individual by the stage of change, but also utilizing husbands as facilitators.
The purpose of this study is to examine factors affecting the life satisfaction of patients with hemodialysis in order to improve the quality of life for patients with hemodialysis. The subjects of this study are 168 patients who have undergone hemodialysis treatment in the hemodialysis rooms in D-city and C-providence. The data are collected between August 20th to September 5th, 2015. By using SAS 9.3 statistics program for data analysis, frequency, ${\chi}^2$-test, variance analysis and multiple regression analysis are conducted. Based on the analysis, it is found that family support(t=5.33, p<.001) and self-efficacy(t=3.52, p<.001) are statistically significant to the quality of life for male patients. Family support(t=2.58, p<.012) and adherence to self-care(t=4.08, p<.001) are statistically significant to the quality of life for female patients. With the study results, it suggests that nurses can help improve the affective and psychological stability of patients with hemodialysis by recognizing the factors affecting the life satisfaction of patients with hemodialysis by gender, developing and utilizing a nursing intervention.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to construct and test a structural equation model for Diabetes self-management (DSM) behavior and Quality of life (QoL) in older adults with diabetes who use Citizen Health Promotion Centers. The theory used this study was a combination of the Information-Motivation-Behavioral Model (IMB) and Self-Determination Theory (SDT) to reflect autonomous characteristics of participants. Methods: Data were collected from April 20 to August 31, 2015 using a self-report questionnaire. The sample was 205 patients with type 2 Diabetes who regularly visited a Citizen Health Promotion Center. SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 22.0 programs were used to analyze the efficiency of the hypothesized model and calculate the direct and indirect effects of factor affecting the participants' DSM behavior and QoL. Results: The supported hypotheses were as follows; 1) The variable that had a direct effect on QoL was health behavior adherence (${\gamma}=.55$, p=.007). 2) The variables that had a direct effect on DSM behavior were DSM information (${\gamma}=.15$, p=.023), DSM confidence (${\gamma}=.25$, p<.001), and autonomous motivation (${\gamma}=.13$, p=.048). 3) The variable that had a direct effect on DSM confidence was autonomy support (${\gamma}=.33$, p<.001). Conclusion: The major findings of this study are that supporting patient's autonomous motivation is an influential predictor for adherence to DSM behavior, and integrative intervention strategies which include knowledge, experience and psychosocial support are essential for older adults with diabetes to continue DSM behavior and improve QoL.
