Phytophagous insects were surveyed from field populations of Compositae weeds in the order Campanulales. Forty five insect species including unidentified ones of 43 genera in 5 orders and 17 families were recorded from 16 species in 12 genera of Compositae weeds. The hemipterans and coleopterans were the most abundant insects representing 13 and 13 species, repectively. Aphids and leaf beetles were important phytophagous insects on Compositae weeds. The potential biological control insects were Uromelan gobonis and Aethes cnicana on Cirsium japonicum var. ussuriensis and Cryptosiphum artemisiae on Artemisia lavandulaefolia. The leaf beetles, Chrysolina aurichalcea, Longitarsus succineus, Basilepta fulvipes, and Hamushia konishii were often collected from A. lavandulaefolia. Aphids and leaf beetles showed host specificities. The roles of hemipterans collected from the flowers of A. lavandulaefolia and Erigeron canadensis were questionable.
Striped flea beetle, Phyllotreta striolata (SFB) and turnip sawfly, Athalia rosae ruficornis (TSF) are two economically important sporadic pests in radish fields on Jeju island. The response of adult SFB and TSF to a mixture of aggregation pheromone, (+)-(6R,7S)-himachala-9,11-diene and host plant volatile, allyl isothiocyanate (HAI), as well as to yellow and blue sticky traps was examined in radish fields. Adult SFB was more attracted to the sticky trap with HAI, regardless of the color of the sticky trap; however, adult TSF was more attracted on the yellow sticky trap than blue, and no effect of HAI was observed. The adult SFB and TSF can be effectively monitored using yellow sticky traps placed 10 cm above the plant canopy. SFB and TSF had 3 and 5 peak times in a year, respectively. The first peak occurred in the middle of March for SFB and mid-late of April for TSF. We expect that the results of the present study can facilitate minimizing the damage caused by the two important pests in commercial radish fields.
The mature larvae of Podontia affinis (Grondal), P dalmani Baly, and P. lutea (O1ivier) collected Vietnam are described and illustrated for the first time exception of P. dalmani. Their taxonomic remarks are also given.
Studies were carried out to investigate effects of temperature and photoperiod on diapause induction and of juvenile hormone III and 20-hydroxyecdysone treatment on diapausing adults of the alder leaf beetle, Agelastica coerulea Baly(Chrγsomelidae: Coleoptera). Its life cycle and ovarian development in adults were also observed. The beetle had one year life cycle with egg, larval, pupal and adult periods being 7-10, 19-21, 14-15 days and about 10 months, r respectively. All adults showed a diapause syndrome when the larvae were reared at $20^{\circ}C$ or $25^{\circ}C$ in combination of photoperiods of 16L/8D, 12L/12D, or 8L/16D. Their ovarioles did not s show any development of vitellogenesis before or during diapause and even when exposed at $15^{\circ}C$ after overwintering. When diapausing adults were treated with JH III they resumed feeding and laid several eggs and broke diapause condition temporally. But diapausing adults treated with 20-hydroxyecdysone did not show any response.
During the excavation to find ancient rice seeds from the peat layer (12,500-14,800 bp based on 14 dating samples) of Soro-ri, Cheongwon-gun near Cheongju city, we found not only old rice seeds, but also other organic materials including insect fossil skeletons. Although no complete specimen was found in this study, some body parts were diagnotic enough for identifying species. Among the identified insect fossils, two species were successfully identified based on their characteristic forewing morphologies, e.g., cross-ridges on forewing. The two identified species, Plateumaris sericea and Donacia flemola or near, belong to Donaciinae in Chrysomelidae, and their larvae are known to feed on the root of wetland plants, mainly in Poaceae or Cyperaceae. Such finding proved that a wetland environment was maintained in Soro-ri at that time, and was suitable for such insects to survive. Therefore, evidence from the fossilized rice seeds, together with these insect fossils, clearly proved that the environment at that time was suitable for rice, a common Poaceae species, growing.
The present paper is a part of the studies on the larvae of subfamily Alticinae in North America. Eight species were described and illustrated belonging to genus Altica in the subfamily Alticinae: Altica ambiens alni, A. bimarginata, A. brisleyi, A. litigata, A. potentillae, A. sylvia, A. torquoto and A. ulmi. It is the first to deal the larvae taxonomically in North America. Their key and taxonomic remarks are also given.
Phytophagous insects of Monocotyledoneae were surveyed from May to October in 1991. Each p province was divided into 9 localities by $\boxplus$-shape for the collection. Seventeen weed species b belonging to 17 genera were collected, namely, 14 Graminales weed species of 14 genera, 1 s species of Farinales weed, and 1 species of Liliales weed. Phytophagous insects representing 5 orders, 13 families, 27 genera, and 36 species comprised the insect fauna on Monocotyledoneae w weeds. Five species were not identified out of 36 insect species. Grasshoppers, hemipteran, s scarab beetles, and leaf beetles were frequently collected. Lema concinnipennis was a potential biological agent on Commelina communis, and Oulema dilutipes was first collected from Setaria u viridis. Commelina communis in golf course was severely damaged by Adoretus tenuimacu/atus c chafer but this insect was also an important insect pest of turfgrass and trees.
Bruchidius siliquastri Delobel, 2007 belongs to the subfamily Bruchinae (Chrysomelidae) and is supposedly of eastern Asian origin. The species is recently regarded as an invasive species that infests the seeds of the leguminous plant Cercis siliquastrum L. (Fabaceae) in Europe. In Korea, this bruchid species was uploaded and identified by domestic Korean bloggers. However, they did not conduct a precise identification. Authors observed this species on a C. chinensis Bunge planted on the campus of Sunchon National University in the spring of 2022. In this study, we present new ecological data on the bruchid beetle B. siliquastri Delobel from Korea.

Tropical plants of mango(Mangefera indica), dragon fruit(Hylocereus undatus), and atemoya(Annona cherimola ${\times}$ A. squamosa) are cultivated in Jeju, Korea. A pest survey on those tropical fruits was conducted from 2008 to 2011. Major pests of Mango were thrips, aphid, mealybug, and lepidoptera species. Thrips palmi and Scirtothrips dorsalis were the most important pests in mango fields. T. palmi mainly injured the leaf but S. dorsalis injured the leaf and fruit. Lepidoptera mango pests injured leaves but some larva of Adoxophyes honmai injured fruit surface around the stem. Aphid pests, Aphis gossypii and Myzus persicae, injured the shoots and Pseudococcus kraunhiae occurred on the stem and fruit. Ant species, A. gossypii, and S. litura, were important pests on dragon fruit. Ants and aphid occurred and injured the stem, flower, and fruit. Spodoptera litura larva severely injured the stem. Among the atemoya pests, S. litura and Homona magnanima caused severe damage.
