The mean frequencies per day of dental hygiene students were 3.33 times in third year and 2.85 times in first year dental hygiene students, 2.46 times in students majoring non-health related field, respectively. The rate of toothbrushing after meal among total frequency of toothbrushing per day was 85.36% in third year and 84.81% in first year dental hygiene students, 77.90% in students majoring non-health related field, respectively. As for the methods of toothbrushing, 'Turning up and down' was 68.8% in third year and 43.1% in first year dental hygiene students, 30.6% in students majoring non-health related field, respectively. Conclusions : Oral health education through dental hygiene course may improve the oral environment management of dental hygiene students and oral health education on toothbrushing should be strengthened for the students majoring non-health related field.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of middle school students' health factors and eating behaviors on their oral symptoms using the data from 30,885 students in the 13th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-Based Survey in 2017. The logistic regression for the effects of the health factors and eating behaviors on the oral symptoms were analyzed using a logistic regression method. The results showed that the groups of higher levels of achievement, and stress, lower daily frequency of tooth-brushing, and no intake of processing meat led to significantly higher levels for toothache and gingival pain recognition. Also, the higher halitosis recognizers had significantly higher levels of stress and the lower daily frequency of tooth-brushing. In conclusion, adolescents' health factors and eating behaviors affected their oral symptoms. This study is expected to help development of a oral health education program that can prevent these oral symptoms.
Objectives : The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the hand washing management and tooth brushing frequency. Methods : The subjects in this study were 7,285 adults who were selected from the third-year(2009) raw data of the fourth national health & nutrition survey. Results : The mean frequency of daily toothbrushing was 3.35. Increases the frequency of both toothbrushing and hand washing with higher grade class. The higher the tooth brushing frequency, the intention of hand washing management at school and home was more increased. Conclusions : This study can contribute to the general health and oral health promotion.
A questionnaire survey of patients for practical training of dental hygiene department of E college was conducted from August 28th 2006 to December 8th 2006. Before scaling, the purpose of the study and the questionnaires were fully explained and the patients were requested to complete the questions personally. The survey were conducted under their consent and 256 copies were collected and used for the analysis. The survey shows the patients' habit for oral health care according to the gender and age and their standards for the quality of life. 1. For gender, male occupied 117(45.7%) and female occupied 139(54.3%). For age, 158 of the patients were in their twenties(61.7%) and 60 of them were aged from 10 to 19(23,4%). 16 patients were aged from 40 to 49(6.3%) and 11 patients were aged from 30 to 39(4.3%) and the number of patients who are older than 50 was 11(4.3%). 2. For the mouth health care, according to gender, 37.6% of male answered that they had scaling and 46.8% of female patients answered that they had scaling experiences. Without distinction of gender, most patients answered they brushed their teeth twice a day. For 91.5% of male patients and 89.9% of female patients answered that they brushed their teeth after meals. Also, 41% of male patients and 53.2% of female patients use rolling method. For using mouth aids, 68.4% of male patients and 65.5% of female patients do not use any aids. 3. For brushing way, most teenagers and patients in their twenties use rolling method and patients older than thirty use vertical and horizontal method. The frequency of brushing shows that most of the respondents brush their teeth twice a day after meals. 4. The standard of quality of life according to gender, under 'clear pronunciation' head, male patients mark 4.42 points and female patients mark 4.17 points. Under 'every day going out' head, male patients mark 4.53 points and female patients mark 4.29 points. Under 'maintenance of emotion' male patients mark 4.27 points and female patients mark 4.27 points. 5. The standard of quality of life according to age, teenage patients show 4.28 points under 'having meals' and under 'clear pronunciation' head, patients in their forties mark 4.44 points. Under 'keeping teeth or denture clean' head, patients in their thirties mark 4.55 points. Patients in their fifties show the lowest grades in most questionnaires.
The purpose of this study was to delve into how to provide better and more oral health education to middle school students, and to boost school oral health projects. The subjects in this study were 430 middle schoolers. After their oral health awareness, knowledge and oral health care were investigated, the following findings were given: 1. Concerning concern for oral health, 56.7 percent were oral health conscious, and as many as 43.2 percent were little or never concerned about it. 2. As to subjective oral health status, 36.7 percent found their own oral health status to be good, and 63.3 percent had a periodontal disease or felt that there was something wrong with their oral health. Regarding self-assessed abnormal oral symptoms, 25.8 percent considered themselves to have an abnormal symptom related to temporomandibular joint, and approximately 30 percent thought there was something wrong with their gums. 3. As for toothbrushing habits, the number of the girls who brushed their teeth after lunch was statistically significantly far larger than that of the boys who did. There were some differences between the boys and girls in toothbrushing method and in which part of the oral cavity they brushed. 4. In regard to oral health knowledge, the girls(a mean of 7.05) significantly excelled the boys(6.36). Those who were more oral health conscious got significantly better scores in oral health knowledge. 5. In terms of dental-clinic visit experiences, the students who had ever visited a dental clinic took in less sugar and got a more frequent regular dental checkup(2.62, 2.50) than the others who hadn't(2.32, 1.74).
Periodontal disease as one of oral diseases is a chronic disease that continuously worsens once it occurs. It begins with gingivitis in the late school childhood. Its prevalence rate gradually increases in adolescence and continues to rise until young and middle ages. Therefore, the preventive care for the disease in one's whole life is of very importance. Since periodontal disease can be prevented and controlled by oral health behaviors, this study focuses on the relation between adults' oral health behaviors and the disease and emphasizes its importance. Based on the data of the 2015 6th (3rd Year) National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, the prevalence rate of periodontal disease was compared according to study subjects' oral health behaviors. As a result, gum disease treatment, the count of gum brushing, use of dental floss use of interdental brush, and subjective oral health condition were statistically meaningful. Given that oral health behaviors are related to periodontal disease, it is necessary to conduct a systematic study for developing and performing the oral health education program to make the right habit of oral health behaviors.

Objectives: This study aimed to reveal the oral health conditions based on the dental health behaviors of a community-dwelling elderly. Methods: The subjects included 206 rural dwellers(100 men & 106 women) aged over 65 years old, who received dental health check-ups in the local public health center and its branches attached to 6 respective Myons of Chunchongnamdo Province, during the 2-month period from Jan. 1st to Feb. 28th, 2005. They were examined by dentists and given self-administered questionnaires asking about their dental heaith behaviors and subjective symptoms of gingival bleeding. Results: The oral health conditions based on dental health behavior showed that those who have not taken dental health service a year were found to have significantly greater number of missing teeth(p=0.002), DMFT(p=0.002) and CPITN(p=0.018), and those who have not observed intra-oral conditions a week to have significantly less number of filled teeth(p=0.002) and significantly greater number of missing teeth(p=0.000) and CPITN (p=0.000) than their respective counterparts. In terms of brushing, those who brushed their teeth below "3 times/day" were found to have significantly greater number of decayed teeth(p=0.000), missing teeth(p=0.000), DMFT(p=0.000) and CPITN(p=0.000) than their counterparts. In terms of time spent in brushing, those who spends "below 3 minutes" had significantly greater number of missing teeth(p=0.002) and DMFT(p=0.041), and significantly less number of filled teeth(p=0.036). According to the use of aid tools for cleaning teeth, the group who don't use them had significantly greater number of DMFT(p=0.041) and CPITN(p=0.018) than its counterpart. Classified by smoking habits, smoking groups had significantly greater number of decayed teeth(p=0.035) and CPITN(p=0.001) than non-smoking groups. Multiple regression analysis of the study data revealed that the significant factors influencing number of decayed teeth were number of brushing, sex and intra-oral observation (explanatory power of 14.2%). The significant factors for number of filled teeth were sex, intra-oral observation, use of aid tools, frequency of brushing, subjective health conditions and drinking of sweet beverages(explanatory power of 18.2%), those for number of missing teeth, number of brushing and age(explanatory power of 13.9%) those for DMFT, number of brushing, sex, use of dental service, age(explanatory power: 13.5%), and those for CPITN included smoking habits, use of dental service, use of aid tools (explanatory power: 10.8%). Conclusions: The study results revealed that the dental health behavior of the elderly population is in poor conditions and their consequent intra-oral health conditions are not good. To improve their oral conditions, public campaign and education will be needed to modify unhealthy dental health behaviors.
