Correlation between Building Facade Elements and Defects through "Pixelization Method" (픽셀화기법을 통한 건축물 외벽의 하자와 입면 구성 요소 간의 관계 분석)

  • The construction industry has been made diversified on the design process depending on qualitative growth of customers' demands. But this approach has lead to problems such as falling of building values due to lack of awareness of defects caused by long term utilization. So, the relationship on the characteristics of buildings and defects should be clearly analyzed to prevent falling of building values. This study, therefore, proposed a technique to quantify the relationship between building facade elements and defects. The technique was developed by applying pixel concept to the outside of the buildings. It has a feature to determine the clear relationship by presenting quantitative data that have been recognized qualitatively. The proposed technique is referred to "Pixelization Method". It separates building facade into unit compartment and makes database by assigning a code depending on the characteristics. Through the method, this study is expected to create a foundation for the quantitative analysis of relationship between building facade elements and defects as a basis on active responding to the defects.

  • The media facade technique requires the matching process of the content to the projection target. For this reason, each time the projection target is changed, the matching process of the same content must be performed again at each time. This problem can be solved by analyzing the elevation of the object and automatically performing matching process of the content in real time and projecting the matched content. In this paper, we propose and implement a new algorithm that can obtain the optimized matching content in real time by analyzing the elevation of the object to be projected. The proposed method processes the image matching by using the depth information of the elevation obtained by IR cameras.

  • Construction and urban development projects that drove urbanization were perceived as a main culprit that disturbs environment and ecosystems, including urban heat island, air pollution and a decrease in species diversity in urban area, as they do not consider natural environment and adopt consistent development behaviors and rapidly degrade the ecology of development sites. In order to build a sustainable green wall system, design process is configured as follows based on basic technology development direction, climate environment elements, climate design technology elements suggested earlier. Each part of required technology element is codified systematically and a sound Korean-style green wall system design direction will be suggested.

  • In these days, open signboard system is controlled by administrative policy and law, but there is no consideration for different types of building. As such, this study aims to propose planning criteria for streetside commercial buildings, such as elevation and mass design of buildings, layout of signboard attached to the building elevation with consideration for streetscape. In mass planning for streetside commercial buildings, the building type with front open space keeps lower open signboard density than the building type directly leading to the street. It is desirable that open signboard of lower floor part is attached by a horizontal type, open signboard of low medium floor part by a projected vertical type, open signboard of high medium floor part and roof part with a minumum attachment of open signboard. As for elevation planning relative to open signboard, it is desirable that an irregular wall type is more useful than a regular wall type to control open signboard. And in all cases, horizontal element facade has a handicap to control the quantity of signboard. If the building has a corner, the piloti should be used in the corner of lower story for smooth circulation of pedestrians and emphasizing the transparency of elevation. Specially, in the case of a round corner, the corner should be emphasized by the composition of high transparent mass.

An Visual Density Index for the Housing Landscape Evaluation Focused on the Elevation Coverage Index (공동주택 경관평가를 위한 시각밀도 지표에 관한 연구 입면차폐도와 규제지침을 중심으로)

  • Recently the landscape of housing has been emphasized. This trend seems to reflect the negative aspects of housing landscape in urban area. Throughout the analysis on the various visual density index, the following findings were obtained; 1) Elevation blockage ratio(EBR) was permitted differently according to the types of housing blocks, and the preference of block layout was different to the location of site. 2) EBR regulation level was acceptable. But 40m level of general area should be stepped up to the 35m level. 3) The correlation between the floor area ratio(FAR) and the EBR was not high. Therefore it is reasonable to regulate the EBR to the location. 4) Elevation coverage ratio(ECR) was highly correlated with the FAR. It means that FAR can substitute for the ECR, and ECR should be regulated to the level of FAR.

Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process for the Evaluation of Old Dwelling Façade Design Factor

  • The purpose of this paper is to evaluate facade design factors of old dwellings using a Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) based on a pairwise comparison analysis using "Façade Design Factors" as evaluation criteria. Traditional old dwellings were presented and evaluated. A Fuzzy AHP based model was used for pairwise comparison of traditional old dwellings, whereby seven criteria and nine alternatives were described through a questionnaire and constructional data. The Fuzzy AHP was used to determine the impact of the facade design factors, because "Traditional" old dwellings are identified by the combination of their facade design factors. Furthermore, the fuzzy AHP is used to verify the feasibility and efficiency of this approach as well as for extent analysis to comprehend the priority of the traditional old dwellings using a sensibility measuring scale.

  • This study is aimed to investigate the characteristics of the elevations in the contemporary multi-family residential buildings in Paris. The survey was performed by studying 30 buildings which had won the multi-family residential project competitions, held in Paris in 2011. Since 30 buildings in the survey will be constructed in Paris in a couple of years, current trends of the elevations of the multi-family residential buildings can be extracted. Historically and also currently, in France, the multi-family housing has been studied to solve the various social problems; especially in Paris where the historical buildings and the modern and the contemporary buildings stand together in perfect harmony. The uniform elevations of the multi-family residential buildings in Korea, have been consist problems in the country. By studying the building elevations in Paris, the solutions to solve the current problems and to improve the situation, can be found. The study will be discussed in three different categories. First of all, the volume and the mass of building in the survey buildings, will be analyzed. Secondly, the openings in the facade, such as the windows and the balconies of the survey projects, will be analyzed. Finally, the materials and the colors of the facade will be discussed. By analyzing the elevations of the multi-family residential building projects, which had won the competitions, and are soon to be built in Paris, the various experiments and the attempts in building elevations, currently happening in Paris which is mostly known as a Haussmann style city, can be presumed, as well as the willingness of the city to reserve the historic buildings in the city.

A Study on the Visual Satisfaction of a Panel-type Facade Planting (패널형 입면녹화의 시각적 만족도에 관한 연구)

  • As cities become more industrial and modern, they become overcrowded and the construction zones increase accordingly. In particular, the demand for panel-type planting methods has gradually increased due to early planting and easy installation. However, studies on panel-type planting have strictly concentrated on the vegetation sub system or irrigation system without any interest in landscape-centered system. Factors of preference will be made through landscape evaluation on the panel-type facade planting. A questionnaire survey was conducted in a location where panel-type facade planting was available. In terms of responses to the facade planting, 'natural (3.80)' was the highest, followed by 'friendly (3.70),' 'comfortable (3.65),' 'beautiful (3.65),' and 'peaceful (3.50).' On the contrary, negative responses such as 'too quiet,' 'simple,' 'heavy,' 'gloomy,' 'dark,' and 'dirty' were also received. It is thought that these responses refer to the poor management of the area. The results of this study will be useful as basic data for the development and distribution of panel-type facade planting.

  • Display in commercial space is one of the most important fields in modem advanced industrial sectors as means of promoting the volume of sales. Additionally, consummers' preferences are more complicated and various than before because of improvement of quality of life. In order to satisfy the various comsumer's desire, the role of display must be an important factor in commercial space. On the other hand, the facade of commercial buildings in the concept of visual merchandising has important effect on the commercial space such as layout of a shop, setting up presentation space, and visual expression. The structure of the facade of the store provides not only an advertising function but also an important position to the composition of external space. Besides, enterance space is a part of a store, and it is closely related to outdoor space. Therefore, the relationship between a store and outdoor space should be carefully considered in terms of functional and expressional problems.This study introduces all sort of characteristics of the facade of enterance speac in the commercial buildings. It also investigates the relationship among the characteristics. Moreover, it analyzes the effect of facade style on shop environment such as zonning, inducement plan, and allocation plan. For the purpose of this study, 57 fashion stores, located in Myung-Dong(Seoul), are investigated. Based on the sample, this study analyzes the relationship between the facade style and visual presentation. Finally, it suggests the desirable direction of space composition based upon the concept of visual merchandising.

The Effects of Modafinil on Clinical Features and Sleep Structure of Narcolepsy Patients and Healthy Controls (모다피닐이 기면병 환자와 대조군의 임상 양상과 수면구조에 구조에 미치는 영향)

  • Introduction: Excessive daytime sleepiness and cataplexy are key features of narcolepsy. Modafinil is psychostimulant used in the treatment of narcolepsy. In this study, we evaluated effects of modafinil on nocturnal sleep structure and sleep latency in multiple sleep latency test and clinical features. Methods: Twelve narcoleptic patients (7 male, age: $22.9{\pm}2.6\;yrs$) were participated in the study. All of them had done nocturnal polysomnography (nPSG), multiple sleep latency test (MSLT), clinical symptoms scales and have repeated same procedure after taking 200 mg of modafinil. We have done linear mixed model analysis to describe effects of group, medication and nap time on these measures. Results: Modafinil did not affect clinical scales except PSQI which had been reduced after medication. In this study, Modafinil reduced total sleep time, sleep efficiency and increased wake after sleep onset and percent of arousal during sleep in nocturnal polysomnography and prolonged mean sleep latency in multiple sleep latency tests in both group. Discussion: Modafinil has stimulant effect of central nervous system but its effect on night sleep is less than other psychostimulants such as methylphenidate. We ascertained that modafinil affected total sleep time, sleep efficiency and percent of wake during sleep but did not effect on sleep structure. Modafinil was effective in the management of day time sleepiness. Modafinil can enhance alertness of control group without day time sleepiness.
