A Study on the Sample Characteristics Obtained from Large Diameter Sampler and Piston Sampler (피스톤 샘플러와 대구경 샘플러로 채취한 시료의 특성에 관한 연구)

  • A large diameter sampler that can take undisturbed samples from soft ground was developed by KICT. In order to compare the quality of samples taken by the sampler with those of the traditional piston sampler, a series of laboratory tests were performed. Samples were taken at different sites such as Incheon, Gimhae, Yangsan and Busan. The results showed that the values of unconfined compression strength, secant modulus, pre-consolidation pressure, undrained shear strength, and shear modulus exhibited higher in samples taken by the large scale sampler. Strains at shear failure and volumetric strains were low for the new sampler. It was proved from the comparison that better quality samples could be obtained by the KICT sampler.

  • This study aims to determine the effects of sample movement and storage on sample disturbance. To this end, non-disturbed samples collected from the OOregion, Gwangyang City, Jeonranam-do. Then, unconfined compression and consolidation tests were performed on the samples in the field, Seoul Lab and Seoul Lab after 4 weeks. Based on failure strain rate$(\epsilon_f)$, volume strain rate$(\epsilon_{\nu})$, and void ratio change$({\Delta}e/e_0)$ obtained from the test results, sample disturbance was evaluated. The sample disturbance level was used to compare and analyze the influences of transportation and storage on sample disturbance.

Creep Deformation Characteristics of Weathered Granite Soil (화강풍화토의 creep 변형특성)

  • This study analyzes the characteristics of creep deformation behavior of weathered granite soils used in road embankments. The creep strain under the unconfined compressive state demonstrated an excellent agreement with the theoretical analysis of the burgers substance. The elastic deformation showed a termination in its characteristics after a long-term period owing to the increase in applied loads. The primary creep strain was 0.0028 and concluded that the deformation completed within $3{\sim}5$ days after applying the loads. Also, the completing time of creep deformation in the embankment soils increased in proportion to the height of embankment soils. The secondary creep strain is about 50% of the primary creep strain.

  • 강도 또는 변형 이방성은 층리진 최적암, 박층모양의 변성암, 균일하게 절 리가 나있는 암석에서 흔히 볼 수 있다(Amadei, 1982, 1996). 특히, 대구지역은 퇴적암의 일종인 셰일로 구성되어 층리면의 각도에 따라 역학적인 특성이 달리 산정되어져야 한다. 이에 본 연구에서는 층리면의 각도를 달리하여 시료를 성형한 후 각종 시험을 수행하였다. 그 결과 일축 압축강도는 수평면과 층리면이 이루는 각이 0$^{\circ}$, 90$^{\circ}$에서 최고 강도를, 60$^{\circ}$에서 최저 강도를 나타내었다. 또한 간접 인장시험과 점 하중시험, 탄성파시험에서는 90$^{\circ}$에서 최고값을, 0$^{\circ}$에서 최저값을 보였다. 그리고, 층리에 따른 퇴적압의 일축 압축강도를 간접 인장강도, 점하중강도와의 상관성을 분석하여 각각의 관계를 회귀분석을 통한 상관식으로 나타내었다. 추가적으로 층리에 따른 공학적특성을 정량적으로 나타내었다.

  • 최근 변단면 거더의 경제성을 고려하여 장경간 거더 교량과 강골조 구조물에 변단면보의 사용이 증가하고 있으며, 고강도 강의 등장으로 인해 변단면보의 정확한 좌굴 강도의 평가가 매우 중요시 되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 기존에 연구된 탄성 횡-비틀림 좌굴 강도에 관한 연구를 바탕으로하여 별로 비탄성 구간에 비지지 길이가 존재하는 일축대칭 I형 변단면보의 횡-비틀림 좌굴 강도 해석을 실시하였다. 해석에는 유한요소해석프로그램인 ABAQUS(2007)가 사용되었으며, MINITAB(2006)을 이용하여 간편한 설계식을 제안하고 있다. 일단 계단식 단면을 가지는 보에 대하여 고려하였으며, 플랜지 길이 방향 비, 너비방향 비, 두께의 비로 계단식 I형 보를 나타내었다. 집중 하중을 적용시켰으며 비선형 해석을 위해 잔류응력 및 초기변형과 재료비선형을 고려하였다. 본 연구 결과에서 제안된 식은 향후 다양한 하중이 작용하는 비탄성 횡-비틀림 좌굴 강도에 대한 연구에 많은 도움이 될 것이다.

An Experimental Study on Uniaxial Compressive Behavior of RC Circular Columns Laterally Confined with Prestressing Aramid Fiber Strap (아라미드 스트랩으로 프리스트레싱 횡구속된 RC 원형기둥의 일축압축거동에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • In this study, strength, stiffness and confinement effect with stress-strain and stress-volumetric strain curves for improved uniaxial compressive behavior of RC circular columns laterally confined with prestressing aramid fiber strap were experimentally investigated. The test variables were the specimens with or without axial reinforcing bar and the number and spacing of strap, prestressing level, the types of reinforcing fiber (CFS, GFS). As a result, the failure type of the columns was very stable and strength increase rate was about 73% comparison with the general RC columns. Moreover, the strain increase rate is very small and the axial displacement confinement effect was very effective compared with existry methods (CFS, GFS), the initial and final lateral confinement effect was excellent.

Comparison of Rock Young's Moduli Determined from Various Measurement Methods (다양한 시험법으로 규명된 암반 탄성계수 비교)

  • Various measurements were carried out to estimate the modulus of deformation in two dominant rock types in Korea: granite and gneiss. Four most commonly used methods were utilized: Goodman jack tests, PS well logging, laboratory ultrasonic tests and laboratory uniaxial loading tests. Laboratory static and dynamic Young's moduli depend on the magnitude of the applied axial stress, range of Sequency used for measurement and the loading/unloading condition. As the laboratory measurement condition approaches to that in situ, the resultant moduli also appear to be comparable to that in situ. This suggests that the simulation of in situ stress condition is important when the modulus of rock is determined in the laboratory Dynamic Young's modulus is generally higher than static Young's modulus because of (micro)crack behavior in response to the stress, different range of frequency used for measurements, and the effect of the amplitude of deformation. Understanding of the relations in moduli from different measurement methods will help estimate appropriate in situ values.

  • In this study, it is attempted to examine (1) the residual deformation and elastic deformation induced from the repeated loads (up to the maximum of 100,000 times) on fully compacted soil specimen, the relation between stress and strain by performing the unconfined compressive test, after repeated loads and (2) the effect of water content, dry density, number of cycle, repeated loads, etc. on the effect of the stress-strain relation. The rate of deformation caused by repeated loads greatly depends on to the condition whether the water content is above or below the plastic limit. It is possible to estimate the initial tangent modulus of soil by means of modulus of elastic deformation obtained by putting repeated loads on the clay soil.

  • 콘크리트 구조물에 대한 많은 기준들의 요건에 따르면, 휨을 받는 철큰 콘크리트(RC) 보의 압축부에서의 응력은 일반적으로 일축의 응력-변형을 관계를 이용하여 계산한다. 이와 같은 접근은 가끔씩 압축력을 받는 콘크리트에서 부서짐이 발성할 때 보의 구조적 거동을 재현하지 못할 수 있다. 결과적으로, RC 구조물의 지지력과 그들의 연성은 근사적으로 평가된다. 본 논문에서는 압축을 받고 있는 콘크리트의 postpeak 거동은 활동면을 이용하여 모델링되었다. 이 활동 면의 모멘트-곡률곡선에서 연화부분에 그 원인이 있다. 제안된 활동현상의 수학적 표현은 압축력을 받는 콘크리트(즉, 연화부분의 거동이 압축영역의 크기와 변형률구배(곡배)에 의존하는)에 있어서 특정한 응력-변형률 관계를 정의하는 것이 얼마나 어려운지를 보여주고 있다.

Side Resistance of Rock Socketed Drilled Shafts in Consideration of the Shaft Size Effects (크기효과를 고려한 암반에 근입된 현장타설말뚝의 주면마찰력)

  • According to Sagong and Paik (2003), the side resistance of rock socketed drilled shafts is affected by rock quality, types, uniaxial compressive strength, and confining stress. Their approach based upon the Hoek-Brown criterion provides reasonable predictions of the side resistance. In this study, we propose an equation to calculate the side resistance considering size effects of the shafts and investigate the influence of drilled shaft diameter on the side resistance. A new method employs the modified Hoek-Brown criterion together with an empirical size effect of rock core. From the previous field tests, 12 pile load test results were collected and compared with prediction calculated from the equation proposed in this study. In a given condition, similar results between measurement and estimate are observed. From the parametric study on the GSI, confining stress, uniaxial compressive of intact rock and pile size, it is shown that uniaxial compressive strength is the most influential parameter on the side resistance. Though pile size shows the least influence on the resistance, the size effect is apparent as rock quality increases.
