In this study, projectiles with 2 kinds of nose shape: spherical and flat were impacted into normal concrete and fiber reinforced concrete panels. The fracture depth and form, crater diameter, tensile strain at rear face were evaluated. It was confirmed that smaller projectile nose areas resulted in deeper penetrations associated with concentrated impact forces and small front-face crater diameters in impact test. Conversely, larger projectile nose areas resulted in shallower penetrations and larger front-face fracture diameters. Similar front-face failure and strain distribution relationships based on the projectile nose shape were observed for normal and fiber-reinforced concrete although the rear-face tensile strain and scabbing were significantly reduced by the fiber reinforcement. In addition, a direct relationship was confirmed between the penetration depth based on the projectile nose shape and the tensile strain on the rear face. Thus the impact strain behavior is required to predict the scabbing behavior with penetration depth.

A numerical model that can simulate the nonlinear behavior of ultra high strength fiber reinforced concrete (UHSFRC) structures subjected to monotonic loading is introduced. The material properties of UHSFRC, such as compressive and tensile strength or elastic modulus, are different from normal strength reinforced concrete. The uniaxial compressive stress-strain relationship of UHSFRC is designed on the basis of experimental result, and the equivalent uniaxial stress-strain relationship is introduced for proper estimation of UHSFRC structures. The steel is uniformly distributed over the concrete matrix with particular orientation angle. In advance, this paper introduces a numerical model that can simulate the tension-stiffening behavior of tension part of the axial member on the basis of the bond-slip relationship. The reaction of steel fiber is considered for the numerical model after cracks of the concrete matrix with steel fibers are formed. Finally, the introduced numerical model is validated by comparison with test results for idealized UHSFRC beams.

In this study, tensile tests were performed using standard and notched-bar specimens under two different displacement rates and various temperatures, in order to investigate the effects of the stress and strain concentration at the notched section on the dynamic strain aging (DSA) behavior of carbon steel piping material. In addition, finite element simulations were conducted to evaluate quantitatively the stress and strain states for both types of specimen under uniaxial tensile loading. The results showed that serration and an increase in tensile strength, which are considered to be evidence of DSA in carbon steels, can be observed from tensile tests for notched-bar specimens. It was also found that the temperature region of DSA observed in the notched-bar specimens was higher than the DSA region observed in the standard tensile specimens tested under the same displacement rate. The results of finite element analysis showed that this behavior is associated with the high strain rate at the notched section, which is caused by the stress and strain concentration.

A set of constitutive equations is formulated to predict elastic-plastic strain hardening response of sintered porous iron under combined tension and torsion. The proposed constitutive equations were capable of predicting characteristic behaviors of porous metals. Agreement between theoretical curves and experimental data for elastic-plastic response of sintered porous iron was very good for various initial porosities.

The purpose of this study is to investigate experimentally the material strength and tensile deformation behavior of highly ductile high-strength cement composites reinforced by synthetic fibers. Materials and mixture proportions were designed to make composites with a strength level of 80 MPa in compression. Two kinds of polyethylene fibers with different properties were employed as reinforcing fibers. A series of experiments on density, compressive strength, and deformation performance was performed. Experimental results showed that the tensile behavior and cracking patterns of cement composite strongly depends on the types of reinforcing fibers. It was also demonstrated that the cement composite with a compressive strength of 77.7 MPa and a tensile strain capacity of 7.9% can be manufactured by using a proper polyethylene fiber.

The present study concerns modelling the structural behaviour for concrete structure into the crack initiation at corrosion of steels. The degradation source included the axial load and steel corrosion. A development of the rust formed on the steel surface was considered with the interfacial gap between steel and concrete. As a result, the tensile damage could occur on the surface of concrete into the cracking with no steel corrosion, which could be further developed by the increasing rust formation, while the cracking at the steel-concrete interface was mainly attributed to the compressive deformation, being restricted within the interfacial zone.
One directional and biaxial tension tests of 13 reinforced concrete panels were conducted to derive a constitutive law of concrete. Based on the test results, a model equation is derived for the stress-strain relationship of concrete in tension. Main test variables are reinforcement ratio and the load ratio applied in two directions. In addition a failure envelope of concrete in tension-tension region is suggested based on the initial crack occurrence. Test results show that the concrete carries substantial tensile stress even after cracking occurrence. However, the application of this proposed stress-strain relationship for concrete is limited to the case where the direction of reinforcement coincides with the direction of the applied principal stresses.

Ultra-high performance concrete and high ductile cementless composite are considered as promising construction materials because those exhibits higher performance in terms of high strength and high ductility. The purpose of this study is to investigate experimentally the compressive strength and tensile behavior of ultra-high performance concrete and high ductile cementless composite. A series of experiments including density, compressive strength, and uniaxial tension tests were performed. Test results showed that the compressive strength and tensile strength of alkali-activated slag based high ductile cementless composite were lower than those of ultra-high performance concrete. However, the tensile strain capacity and toughness of alkali-activated slag based high ductile cementless composite were higher than those of ultra-high performance concrete. And it was exhibited that a high ductility up to 7.89% can be attainable by incorporating polyethylene fiber into the alkali-activated slag based cementless paste.
In case eccentric load is applied at compact tension specimen, the propagation behavior due to existence or nonexistence of hole, numbers and positions of holes near crack is investigated in this study. Strain energy, displacement and stress happened in specimen are examined through simulation analysis. And stress intensity factor is obtained by the basis of strain energy and deformation. When defect or hole exists in structure, the possibility of fracture can be thought to be verified by using the study result.

Mechanical properties of the materials used for transportations and industrial machinery under high stain rate loading conditions have been required to provide appropriate safety assessment to these mechanical structures. The Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar(SHPB) technique with a special experimental apparatus can be used to obtain the material properties under high strain rate loading condition. There have been many studies on the material behavior under high strain rate compressive loading compared to those under tensile loading. In this paper, mechanical properties of the aluminum alloy, Al6061-T6, under high strain rate tensile loading were determined using SHPB technique.
