  • MY microbial consortium were obtained from sludges of wastewater to degrade benzene effectively and Rhodococcus ruber DSM 43338T was identified as major microorganism. The fluidized bed biofilter including MY microbial consortium showed critical removal rate of benzene at 32 g/㎥ h, and maintained stable removal efficiency for 17 days of continuous operation.

A Field Verification Study on the Effect of Filter Layers on Groundwater Level Drop Characteristics, Permeability, Optimum Yield and Well Efficiency in the Unconfined Aquifer Well for Riverbank Filtration Intake (강변여과수 취수를 위한 충적우물에서 필터층이 수위강하특성, 투수성, 적정양수량 및 우물효율에 미치는 영향에 대한 현장실증 연구)

  • This study performs to evaluate the role of filter material at alluvial well for intake of riverbank filtration and the applicability and improvement effect of dual filter well. To achieve this objective, dual filter intake well and single filter intake well were installed with different filter conditions at riverbank free surface aquifer in soil layer then we evaluated filter material condition, permeability, optimum yield and well efficiency according to yield in drawdown test. As a results, we assumed forming dual filter layer minimizes sudden speed changes at boundary between aquifer and filter layer by cushioning of groundwater flow. This suppresses warm current then intake groundwater efficiently, therefore it seems decreasing peripheral groundwater level changes in spite of higher intake water amount than single filter intake well. Furthermore, we confirmed by test, installing dual filter improves permeability, optimum yield and well efficiency. The result will be used by combining with former study to set up standard of design/construction of dual filter intake well at alluvial aquifer layer. Furthermore, we expect this result will be used to prove application effect of dual filter intake well compared to single filter one and radial collector well which are mainly applied on riverbank filtration.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the enhancement of heat transfer coefficient in double pipe fluidized bed heat exchangers. The inner tube used a smooth tube and a finned tube equipped with longitudinal fins. The heat transfer coefficients between the heated tube and fluidized bed of alumina beads were calculated as a function of fluidized velocity in various particle sizes($d_p$=0.41, 0.54, 0.65, 0.77mm) and static bed heights($H_o$=50, 100, 150, 200, 250mm). The coefficient for finned tube is higher than for smooth tube. And the maximum increasing rate is 7.8 times in smooth tube and 12.9 times in finned tube.

  • The flor characteristics around the KRISO 3600TEU container ship model have been experimentally investigated in a subsonic wind tunnel. The mean velocity and turbulence characteristics in the stern and wake regions were measured using an x-type hot-wire probe. The flow characteristics in the stern and near wake regions revealed a complicated three-dimensional flow pattern. The measured results showed clearly the formation of longitudinal vortices and their effect on the flow pattern in the wake region. The shear layer developed along the ship model expands showly to the downward direction. The turbulence statistics measured can be used as comparative data of numerical simulations and provide insights into development of accurate turbulence models for the ship design.

  • Microfluidic chips such as lab-on-a-chip (LOC) include micro-channels for sample delivery, mixing, reaction, and separation. Pressure driven flow or electro-osmotic flow (EOF) has been usually employed to deliver bio-samples. Having some advantages of easy control, the flow characteristics of EOF in microchannels should be fully understood to effectively control the electro-osmotic pump for bio-sam-pie delivery. In this study, a micro PIV system with an epifluorescence inverted microscope and a cooled CCD was used to measure velocity fields of EOF in a glass microchannel and a PDMS microchannel. The EOF velocity fields were changed with respect to electric charge of seeding particles and microchannel materials used. The EOF has nearly uniform velocity distribution inside the microchannel when pressure gradient effect is negligible. The mean streamwise velocity is nearly proportional to the applied electric field. Glass microchannels give better repeatability in PIV results, compared with PDMS microchannels which are easy to fabricate and more suitable for PIV experiments.

The Passenger Evacuation Simulation Using Fluent and EXODUS (Fluent 와 EXODUS를 이용한 승객피난 시뮬레이션)

  • The simulation analysis of fire-driven flow and passenger evacuation in Daegu subway station, Chung-Ang, have been performed. The first location of outbreak of fire is inside passenger car in the third basement in Chung-Ang station. The smoke flow in the second and third basement has been analyzed using FLUENT 6.2. The CO(carbon monoxide) and temperature distribution in the train units and station platform have been obtained and transferred to input data for evacuation simulation. The highest temperature in the train units was 1500K. For the simulation of passenger evacuation, EXODUS has been used for whole basements (level 1${\sim}$ level 3) in the station. Total number of people was assumed to be one thousand and 640 were placed inside train and 360 were placed outside train. In evacuation simulation, an average of 135 passengers were killed and an average time to evacuate takes 10min 19sec. The main evacuation routes used by passengers were investigated and the cause of death was identified by evacuation simulation.

  • 고체 흡수제를 이용한 석탄합성가스 중의 황제거 기술은 습식 스크러빙 방식에 비해 고온에서 운전가능하므로 석탄가스화복합발전의 효율 향상을 가져올 수 있다. 고체탈황제는 서로 연결된 두 개의 유동층 반응기를 순환하면서 흡수탑에서는 합성가스 중의 $H_2S$로부터 황을 흡수하고 재생탑에서는 공기 중의 산소와 흡수된 황이 반응하여 $SO_2$를 배출하고 재생된다. 따라서 고체 황 흡수제는 유동층 공정에 응용가능한 물성과 함께 높은 황흡수능과 빠른 반응성이 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 기존 개발된 고체 탈황제가 가졌던 소성시 수축 현상, 낮은 내마모도 등을 개선하기 위해 지지체 조성을 변경하여 개발한 분무성형 탈황제의 흡수 재생 온도에 따른 황흡수 특성 변화를 조사하였다. $H_2S$ 1 vol. %를 함유한 모사 합성가스를 이용하여 흡수온도 450, $500^{\circ}C$, 재생온도 500, 550, 600, $650^{\circ}C$에서 황 흡수능을 열중량분석기를 이용하여 측정하였다. 개발된 흡수제는 유동층 공정 적용에 적합한 훌륭한 물성(형상, 밀도, 강도 등)과 함께 $500^{\circ}C$ 흡수와 $650^{\circ}C$ 재생을 기준으로 10 wt% 이상의 높은 황흡수능을 보여주었다. 흡수온도 변화는 황 흡수능 변화에 큰 영향을 미치지 않았으나, 재생온도가 $600^{\circ}C$ 이하인 경우 황흡수능이 5 wt% 이하로 크게 떨어져 재생온도를 $650^{\circ}C$ 이상 유지시키는 것이 중요함을 알 수 있었다.

  • 진천지역의 지하수 유동체계를 분석하기 위해 진천지역 내 530개 공의 지하수위를 1년간 관측하였다. 이중 360개 공에서는 분기별로 한번씩 총 4회, 130개 공에서는 월1회씩 총 12회 지하수위를 관측하였으며, 40개 공에 대해서는 1시간 간격으로 자동관측을 실시하였다. 관측결과를 수집하여 지하수위의 변동특성, 지하수위 분포, 지하수 심도분포 등을 실시하였으며, 이와 같은 지하수위 분석 결과를 바탕으로 지하수 유동체계를 분석하였다. 조사지역의 평수기 지하수위 분포에 대해 수리학적인 접근법(hydraulic approach) 및 동수역학적 접근법(hydrodynamic approach)에 근거하여 수리수두(hydraulic head) 및 전수두(total head)를 분석하여 2차원 및 3차원 수리경사도를 작성하였다. 이러한 지하수위 분포에 따른 분석 성과와 지형 및 수문지질을 고려하여 함양 및 배출지역을 분류하였으며, 이와 함께 기분석된 지하수위 등고선에 따른 유선망도를 작성하였다. 지하수는 지하수위의 표고 및 압력에 따른 위치 에너지 차에 의하여 대수층 매질을 통하여 유동하며 수두가 높은 곳에서 낮은 곳으로 일정한 수리경사를 갖고 지하수 등수위선에 연직 방향으로 형성된 유선을 따라 이동한다. 따라서 지하수의 유동방향은 지하수 수리경사 분석이 이루어진 8개 방향의 지하수위 경사 중 최대경사를 갖는 방향으로 지하수 유동이 발생하므로, 이를 지하수위 유동방향으로 결정하였다. 이와 같이 분류된 지하수 함양 중간 및 배출 지역과 지하수의 함양과 배출의 양적인 측면에 서 유동체계의 규모를 고려하여 조사 지역을 8단계로 구분하였다. 또한 조사지역의 지하수 유동체계를 종합적으로 규명하기 위하여 기 분석한 조사지역의 지하수위 등고선, 지하수위 등심도선, 지하수 수리경사, 지하수 유동방향 및 지하수 함양-배출체계와 지형기복, 그리고 주요 하천 등의 제반 요소를 중첩 분석하여 종합적으로 규명하고, 그 결과를 지하수 유동체계도로 작성하였다. 지하수 유동체계 분석결과는 수문지질 평가와 오염취약성 평가 및 지하수 관리 방안 수립에 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Fractal Model of Transient Flow in a Dual-porosity Aquifer with Constant-head Upper Boundary (일정수두 상부경계를 가지는 이중공극 대수층내 부정류에 관한 프락탈모델)

  • So far, several fractal models of fluid flow in a fractured aquifer have been developed. In this study, a new fractal model is derived that considers transient flow in the dual-porosity aquifer with the fracture skin between the fissure and the block, and the storage capacity and the wellbore skin on the pumping well. Constant-head upper boundary is specified in the block. This model is a generalized one which comprises both modified Hantush equation (1960) and Boulton-Streltsova equation (1978). Type curves are plotted for different flow dimensions (0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 and 3) with various values of the leakage factor and the fracture skin. They show dimensionless drawdown in the pumping well and observation wells located either in the fissure system or in the matrix block.
