  • The flow of remote field eddy current energy is studied at nonmagnetic coaxial tubes by using both experiments and finite element calculations based on commercial software package. The results showed that remote field eddy current energy at coaxial tubes flow along over the outer surface of external tube, not through the gap between internal and external tubes. This means that the through wall transmission characteristic of remote field eddy current testing (RFECT) is still valid at tube in tube configurations and the RFECT could be potential nondestructive technique for crack detection, spacer location and gap sizing at the coaxial CANDU fuel channel tubes.

  • Telescopic denture has advantages such as transfer the occlusal force to the long axis of the abutment, easiness of oral hygiene management, increase of retention and stability, splint effect due to secondary fixation between abutments and have been reported a higher success rates than conventional removable partial denture (RPD). However, there are disadvantages such as complex laboratory procedures, long treatment periods and high costs, and high incidence of complications. This clinical report describes two cases, a 4-point supported telescopic denture using telescopic crown and a 2-point supported telescopic denture using conical crown with functionally satisfactory results. Frequent complications of telescopic denture, which are reported in various literature were reviewed. Clinical and laboratory procedures were performed in consideration of complications that reported.

  • Hybrid telescopic double crown have ever been good treatment option for patient with periodontally unfavorable few remaining teeth for successful prognosis. Tooth and implant combined telescopic double crown can be used for improving retention and support for denture with strategically placed implants on edentulous ridge. In this case, an 55-year-old female patient had chronic periodontitis with few remaining teeth on maxilla and fixed partial prosthodontics on mandible. Treatment of hybrid telescopic double crown with friction pin lasted 9.5 years only with natural teeth. After 9.5 years, additional implants was installed due to fracture of cast-posted abutment teeth. After implantation, tooth and implant combined double crown had fabricated. Through re-treatment, no complications of new denture has been found during 2 years follow up. This case presents fair prognosis of tooth and implant combined double crown denture in periodontally unfavorable condition.

  • A few authors have reported good clinical results using double crown removable partial denture (RPD) with a few remaining teeth. Hybrid telescopic double crown is a good indication for a patient with poor periodontal condition and/or few remaining teeth after extraction, especially located in cross-arch position. In this case, there was a poor periodontal condition with teeth mobility. Several teeth with poor prognosis were extracted. Remaining anterior teeth was restored with fixed prostheses and edentulism was restored with Kennedy class I removable partial denture in maxilla. In mandible, it was hard to restore with clasp removable partial prostheses because of bilaterally isolated remaining teeth so that hybrid double crown removable partial denture with friction pin was suitable for this case. The objective of this report is to discuss the characteristics and the utility of hybrid double crown prostheses using a few remaining teeth in mandible.

  • For individuals with cleft lip and palate, the removable partial dentures (RPDs) have been an important treatment option. Some modifications from conventional prosthetic treatment may be necessary to achieve satisfactory functional and esthetic results in cleft patients. In case of cleft palate patient with periodontally compromised and only posterior few remaining teeth, removable partial prosthesis connected to telescopic crown can be the alternative treatment option. When connected to the RPD, telescopic crowns increase the prosthetic stability and retention, optimize favorable force transmission to the long dental axis, and improve esthetics. And the cross arch stabilization of double crown denture helps to stabilize both divided maxillary ridges in CLP patient. This case present one adult CLP patient using an RPD connected with hybrid telescopic crowns with friction pins to improve not only retention and stability but also aesthetics.

  • In this study, performance tests were conducted to investigate the applicability of a double-tube heat recovery ventilation system. Paper, aluminum, polymer, were investigated as materials for the inner tube using the same exhaust-air volume. In all cases, the temperature exchange efficiency of the aluminum tube was the highest, while the paper tube showed similar results to those of the polymer tube. This probably resulted from the differences in thermal conductivity and thicknesses of the materials. The humidity exchange efficiency was the highest for the paper tubes in all cases, while the aluminum tubes and polymer tubes showed similar results. The total heat exchange efficiency, which includes the values of humidity exchange and temperature exchange, was highest in the case of the paper tube, and the aluminum tube and the polymer tube showed similar results. In the case of the paper tube, sensible heat and latent heat exchange occur at the same time, and the coefficient of energy of the aluminum tube and polymer tube are large values, when to be compared with only applicably sensible heat exchange coefficient of the aluminum tube and the polymer tube of total heat exchange efficiency value. The results of this study could be applied to the design of a ventilation system.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the stress distribution in mandibular implant overdentures with telescopic crowns compared to bar attachment. Material and methods: Three-dimensional finite element models consisting of the mandibular bone, 4 implants, and primary bar-splinted superstructure or secondary splinted superstructure with telescopic crowns were created. Vertical and oblique loads were directed onto the occlusal areas of the superstructures to simulate the maximal intercuspal contacts and working contacts such as group function occlusion. Maximum stress and stress distribution were analysed in mandibular bone, implant abutments, and superstructures. Results: 1. In comparison of von Mises stress on mandibular bone, telescopic overdenture had a little lower stress values in vertical load and working side load except oblique load. In the mandible, the telescopic overdenture distributed more uniform stress than the bar overdenture. 2. In comparison of von Mises stress on implant abutments, telescopic overdenture had much lower stress values in all load conditions. In implant abutments, the telescopic overdenture distributed stress similar to the bar overdenture. Stress was concentrated on the distal surfaces of the posterior implant abutments in both mandibular overdentures. 3. In comparison of von Mises stress on superstructures, the telescopic overdenture had much more stress values in all load conditions. However, the telescopic overdenture distributed more uniform stress on superstructure than the bar overdenture. In the bar overdenture, stress was concentrated on each cental area of bar structures and connected area between implant abutments and bar structures. Conclusion: In the results of this study, the telescopic overdenture had lower stress values than the bar overdenture in mandibular bone and implant abutments, but more stress values in superstructures. However, if optimal material was selected in making superstructures, the telescopic overdenture was compared to the bar overdenture in stress distribution.

  • Double crown prostheses can be used in patients who have a few remaining teeth and poor periodontal condition because of secondary splinting of abutments, vertical loading, decrease of the length of lever arm due to fulcrum line located on margin of inner and outer crown. Successful results of treatments using double crown prostheses for the partially edentulous patients who have a few remaining teeth and implant overdenture using a small number of implants have been reported. In this case, there were a few remaining teeth with a very poor periodontal condition in maxilla, and there were a failed implant with severe alveolar bone resorption and shrinkage in the mandible. The main objective of this report is to introduce our case because a double crown partial denture showed satisfactory results in functional and esthetical aspects during more than one-year follow-up period.

  • Patients with cleft lip and palate have several problems such as oro-nasal communication, dental cross-bite caused by the insufficient growth of maxilla, poor pronunciation and esthetic problem. Removable denture with maxillary double crown near cleft palate and with clasp in the posterior teeth was used to solve the problems of the patient with cleft lip and plate. Double crowns make up for the insufficient mucosal support caused by the mucosa and alveolar bone loss in cleft lip and palate. Double crowns also allow easy repair of denture in case of abutment teeth extraction. In this case, 55-year-old female patient had bilateral cleft lip and palate and few remaining teeth on anterior maxilla. Prosthetic treatment was done for patient with bilateral cleft lip and palate to close oro-nasal communication using maxillary double crown and clasp retained removable denture. As a result, oro-nasal communication was effectively closed and the cross-bite was easily corrected by double crown and clasp retained denture. In addition, pronunciation and appearance were also improved.
