This study deals with linear flow pattern in steady-state or transient dual-porosity media with a vertical geologic structure such as fault, fracture zone, etc. A pumping well is located in the vertical structure of infinitesimal or finite width with high hydraulic conductivity and negligible specific storage. Selected type curves on a pumping well and observation wells in the fractured system and the matrix block are provided. The type curves on the pumping well considers both wellhole and well-loss effects.
The stationary dual-porosity model is not sufficient to describe the hydraulic characteristics of fractured aquifers as the groundwater flow in fractured aquifers is often controlled by the fractal geometry of fractures. This study deals with new stationary dual-porosity fractal model. This model simulates pseudo-steady state flow from matrix block to fissure in the fractal aquifer. Furthermore, it considers storage capacity and well loss effect at the production well. Type curves for different flow dimensions with different drainage factors are plotted. This new model has been applied to experimental data. The result of the interpretation shows a good accordance between the theoretical model and the observed data.
A new nonstationary dual-porosity fractal model is presented which simulates a nonsteady state block-to-fissure flow with or without fracture skin between the block and the fissure in a fractal aquifer. The model includes weilbore storage and well loss effects on the production well. Type curves for different flow dimensions with different values of hydraulic parameters are created. The application of the model to experimental data in fractured aquifer is described.

Scaffold fabrication technology using a 3D printer was developed for damaged bone tissue regeneration. A scaffold for bone tissue regeneration application should be biocompatible, biodegradable, and have an adequate mechanical strength. Moreover, the scaffold should have pores of satisfactory quantity and interconnection. In this study, we used the polymer deposition system (PDS) based on fused deposition modeling (FDM) to fabricate a 3D scaffold. The materials used were polycaprolactone (PCL) and alginic acid sodium salt (sodium alginate, SA). The salt-leaching method was used to fabricate dual pores on the 3D scaffold. The 3D scaffold with dual pores was observed using SEM-EDS (scanning electron microscope-energy dispersive spectroscopy) and evaluated through in-vitro tests using MG63 cells.

So far, several fractal models of fluid flow in a fractured aquifer have been developed. In this study, a new fractal model is derived that considers transient flow in the dual-porosity aquifer with the fracture skin between the fissure and the block, and the storage capacity and the wellbore skin on the pumping well. Constant-head upper boundary is specified in the block. This model is a generalized one which comprises both modified Hantush equation (1960) and Boulton-Streltsova equation (1978). Type curves are plotted for different flow dimensions (0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 and 3) with various values of the leakage factor and the fracture skin. They show dimensionless drawdown in the pumping well and observation wells located either in the fissure system or in the matrix block.
This study presents a mathematical model for simulating the fate and transport of a reactive organic contaminant, TCE, degraded by cometabolism in dual-porosity soils during the installation of in situ biobarrier. To investigate the effect of dual-porosity on transport and biodegradation of organic hydrocarbons, a bimodal approach was incorporated into the model. Modified Monod kinetics and a microcolony concept were employed to represent the effects of biodegrading microbes on the transport and biodegradation of an organic contaminant. The effect of permeability reduction in biobarrier due to biomass accumulation on the flow field were examined in the simulation of a hypothetical field-scale in situ bioaugmentation. Simulation results indicate that the presence of the immobile region can decrease the bioavailability of biodegradable contaminants and that the placement of microbes and nutrients injection wells should be considered for an effective installation of biobarrier during in situ bioaugmentation scheme.

In order to increase the stability of existing breakwater, new caissons are installed on the back or the front of existing caissons. It is very important to evaluate wave force and wave run-up according to the change of porosity among caissons and the energy loss due to separation effects. In this study, we use the eigenfunction expansion method with Darcy's law, which describes the flow of a fluid through a porous plate, to analyze the characteristics of wave on circular breakwater of double array for various porous coefficients. To verify the numerical method, the comparison between present results and Sankarbabu et al. (2008) is made. The wave force and the wave run-up acting on each dual cylindrical caisson are calculated for various parameters by considering the energy loss and the change of porosity.
