This study is to find the new method for authority control in Korea by surveying status of authority control in university libraries and by analyzing international conceptual model of authority control and VIAF. 2 kinds of survey were done: one is for libraries having authority records and the other is for libraries not having authority records. In survey result, libraries that have authority records want to sustain their own forms of authorized access points and libraries that have no authority records want the rules related to authority and the national cooperative authority control system to be constructed. Based on ICP 2009, FRAD conceptual model, VIAF and this survey result, new authority control is to respect the diversity of forms of the authorized access points. New authority control is to permit authority records that reflect provision for linguistic or cultural environments of each library, confirming to the national cataloging code. Therefore, authorized access points will be displayed according to user preferred forms. For this new authority control, it is needed to make national authority rule, to build the authority records according to library's own rules, and to construct the cooperative authority control system. Also for user preferred authority control, it is needed to describe detailed elements for authority control and relation data between authorized access points, between authorized access points and variant forms. This study could contribute to suggest new authority control that could accept all kinds of authorized access points preferred by nation, libraries, and users.

Archival authority records support users in accessing and understanding archival information. The creator of the archives, on the other hand, is also the creator of other informative materials, including published products, and the users want to access information in a seamless manner. Moreover, the authority record has common attributes with the authority records for bibliographic control as well as its distinctive characteristics. Therefore, this research aims to link legacy authority records for constructing and expanding archival authority records and provide the expanded archival records to the Web environment, including Wikipedia, for data sharing. Finally, some issues and suggestions for further research based on the findings that resulted from experimental linking and sharing are discussed.

As ISNI spreads, the process and utilization method of authority control that identifies and links individual or group names is also expanding. In this study, the characteristics of the connection and utilization of ISNI and national authorities in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany were derived, and a plan to improve the connection and utilization of national authorities and ISNI was presented, focusing on the National Library of Korea. Focusing on major countries actively participating in the establishment and utilization of ISNI since its founding, national authorities and ISNI linkage methods and ISNI data used in services were analyzed. The implications of this study for the linkage and convergence of national authority and ISNI data were: first, applying ISNI to support authority work, second, establishing a close cooperation system with the publishing community, and third, establishing infrastructure for linking ISNI and authority records at the national level, and finally, providing user service pages based on authority data.

Name Authority Control is useful not only to manage author information but also to gather other names of authors in order to provide access points in libraries and other institutes. The purpose of this study is to find problems through comparing and analyzing Literature Translation Institute of Korea Author Database, Korean name authority records of national libraries in the U. S., Japan and Korea. The results of the study are as follows. First, Literature Translation Institute of Korea Author Database missed some useful information about Korean writers in translated books in other countries. Second, the name authority file of Library of Congress and National Diet Library did not include the variant names, dates of authors' birth and death date, and filled out incorrect variant names with some birth and death dates. Third, English and Chinese character variants of Korean authors were not found in the National Library of Korea. To solve these problems, revisions of Korean author database, open access to National Library of Korea name authority file, and a strong participation of VIAF were suggested.
