Electrochemical Reduction of Uranyl Ion in Aqueous Basic Solutions (염기성 수용액에서 우라닐이온의 전기화학적 환원)

  • The electrochemical reduction of uranyl ion in aqueous basic media has been examined by d. c. polarography, differential pulsed polarography and cyclic voltammetry. From voltammograms obtained in uranyl solutions containing 0.1M sodium bicarbonate, either with or without the same amounts of sodium tripolyphosphate it is concluded that the first wave corresponds to the reduction of $UO_2^{2+}$ to $UO_2^+$. It is assumed that the uranyl ion undergoes appreciable hydrolysis in these media. The hydrolysis product $UO_2OH^+$ from $UO_2^{2+}$ is not reduced at the first wave, but is reduced at the second wave together with $UO_2^+$. The diffusion current was found proportional to the uranyl concentration in a range between $7.5 {\times} 10^{-4}$ and $3.75 {\times}10^{-3}$M.

  • Novel fluoride sensory systems have been successfully developed. Previously developed method of the fluoride-induced lactonization to fluorescent molecules was detailed, and newly developed fluoride-induced aromatic cyclization scheme was introduced. Based on the strategies using the specific affinity of fluoride to silicon, our systems are highly selective for fluoride ion. Incorporation of the developed sensor to a conjugated polymer has successfully enhanced its sensitivity to fluoride ion.

고밀도 플라즈마 소스를 적용한 고효율 스퍼터링 공정 개발

  • 스퍼터링을 이용한 박막 증착기술은 다양한 분야에 걸쳐 적용되어 왔으며, 스퍼터링 타겟 사용효율을 향상시키기 위해 마그네트론 구조 최적화 및 이온 소스 적용 스퍼터링 등의 기술이 연구되어 왔다. 또한 인듐과 같은 희토류 금속의 가격이 최근 상승함에 따라 고효율 스퍼터링기술의 필요성은 더욱 증대되었다. 본 연구에서는 고밀도 플라즈마 소스를 적용한 고효율 스퍼터링 공정을 개발하였다. 동공 음극방전에서 생성된 고밀도 플라즈마는 전자석 코일을 통해 형성된 자기장을 따라 스퍼터링 타겟 표면까지 수송되며, 음전위로 대전된 스퍼터링 타겟 표면에서는 가속되어 입사하는 이온에 의한 스퍼터링이 발생한다. 본 스퍼터링 공정 기술의 경우, 기존 마그네트론 스퍼터링 소스에서 나타나는 약 30%의 타겟 사용 효율을 뛰어넘는 약 80% 이상의 타겟 사용률을 보였다. 또한 고밀도 플라즈마 소스에서 공급되는 이온에 의한 스퍼터링 공정을 개발 함에 따라 스퍼터링 방전전압의 독립적 조절이 가능하다. 이에 따라 200 V 이하의 저전압 스퍼터링 공정을 통해 유연성 폴리머 기판 및 유기소자 상 저에너지 이온 증착이 가능하며, 1 kV 이상의 고전압 스퍼터링을 통해 추가적인 기판 전압 인가 없이 박막 치밀화 구현이 가능하다.

  • Sulfonated polySEBS and sulfonated PS were synthesized by sulfonation at the aromatic group of polySEBS and PS. Novel sulfonated polySEBS/sulfonated PS blending films for the ion exchange membrane of polymer electrolyte fuel cell were prepared from these sulfonated polymers. The proton conductivities of these blending films were varied in $10^{-2}{\sim}10^{-3}S/cm$ with the blending ratio of sulfonated polySEBS/sulfonated PS. Especially, the film prepared from the addition of the sulfonated PS (0.5 g) in the sulfonated polySEBS (10.0 g) has the best proton conductivity (0.07 S/cm) with ion exchange capacity (0.75 meq/g) and water uptake (25%).

  • Ten under 2 micron size fractions of the montmorillonite from Yongdongri area, Gyeongsangbug-Do were studied using X-ray powder diffraction, cation exchange measurement, differential thermal analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, differential thermal scanning calorimetry and chemical analysis. Montmorillonites occurring at same deposit show limited variation in chemical composition whereas in thermal properties they do not. Their dehydroxylation endothermic peaks are "abnormal" type with a small range of variation of peak temperature reflecting tetrahedral substitution of Al for Si. Data from DSC show that divalent-cation saturated montmorillonite has relatively a higher endothermic heat capacity than monovalent-cation saturated montmorillonite, indicating that cations with higher electronegativity hold more water molecules.

KIST 정전형가속기-현황 및 활용계획

  • 한국과학기술연구원에서는 2007년부터 시작된 중대형가속기구축사업을 통하여 3기의 정전형 가속기를 설치하였다. 1996년에 도입된 2.0 MV Pelletron을 비롯하여 신규 도입된 6 MVTandetron과 400 kV implanter 등 모두 3기의 정전형가속기로 30 keV부터 ~60 MeV까지의 단색 이온빔을 인출, 이용할 수 있는 실험설비의 구축이 완성되었다. 정전형가속기의 주요 활용분야는 femto~atto mole정도의 동위원소를 측정하는 가속기질량분석법(AMS)를 비롯하여 RBS/ERD로 대표되는 이온빔분석법(ion beam analysis, IBA) 그리고 고에너지 이온빔을 이용한 물질 개질분야(ion beam material modification, IBMM)로 크게 분류된다. 이 시설은 당 연구원의 연구 수요 뿐 아니라 국내 연구자의 수요를 아우르는 시설로 계획하고 있다. 여타 실험/분석장비와 달리 가속기시설은본체의 완성 후 활용목적에 맞춰 빔라인의 증설이 필요하며 최근 가장활용성이 큰 가속기질량분석(accelerator mass spectrometry, AMS)의 경우는 활용분야별 시료 전처리 시설과 기술의 개발이 요구된다. 따라서 KIST에서는 향후 수년간 활용 분야별 대표적인 주제를 선정하고 필요한 선행연구를 통하여 KIST 이온빔시설에 대한 연구자들의 접근편의성을 제고하고자한다. 본 발표에서는 지난 6년간의 수행된 가속기 시설의 개요와 함께 장차 수행할 선행연구의 방향과 내용을 소개한다(Figure capture). Characteristics of Detectors for Measurements of Photon Depth Doses in Build-Up Region (선량보강(Build-up) 영역에서의 광자선 깊이선량률 측정을 위한 검출기의 특성 비교)

  • To determine the appropriate method out of various available methods to measure build-up doses, the measurements and comparisons of depth doses of build-up region including the surface dose were executed using the Attix parallel-plate ionization chamber, the Markus chamber, a cylindrical ionization chamber, and a diode detector. Based on the measurements using the Attix chamber, discrepancies of the Markus chamber were within $2\%$ for the open field and increased up to $3.9\%$ in the case of photon beam containing the contaminant electrons. The measurements of an cylindrical ionization chamber and a diode detector accord with those of the Attix chamber within $1.5\%\;and\;1.0\%$ and after those detectors were completely immersed in the water phantom. The results suggest that the parallel-plate chamber is the best choice to measure depth doses in the build-up region containing the surface, however, using cylindrical ionization chamber or diode detector would be a reasonable choice if no special care is necessary for the exact surface dose.

Reduction Effect of Microorganisms by Nano Plasma ion (NPi) (Nano Plasma ion (NPi)에 의한 미생물 제어)

  • The bactericidal effect of nano plasma ion (NPi) which was generated by NPi was analyzed using different kinds of microorganisms, exposure times, chamber sizes, ion amounts and distance. As the result of Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhimurium, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis were shown different in decrement. Gram-negative bacteria E. coli showed the highest percentage (96.57%) and Gram-positive bacteria B. subtilis which produced spore has the lowest percentage (57.41%). From the exposure time of NPi most of the microorganisms were extinct at an early stage. According to the size of the chamber we compared the loss of E.coli and the experiment result shown, analyzed NPi using 5 chambers $0.005m^3$ to $30m^3$ for 2 hr, that when volume of the chamber increased, saturation ion and bactericidal effect was decreased. In addition, an NPi generator installed in the $1m^3$ chamber investigated the decrement of E. coli. Saturation ion concentration increased with decrement. Finally, E. coli showed a similar reduction according to the distance from NPi generator.

Changes in Residual Nitrite, TBARS and Color of Meat Products during Storage (육제품의 저장 중 아질산이온 잔류량, TBARS 함량과 육색의 변화)

  • Changes in nitrite content, TBARS content and color of meat products during storage were examined as part of studies addressing the reduction of residual nitrite and to ensure the safety of meat products. All 4 kinds of domestic meat product tested, Vienna sausage, bacon, smoked-ham and Dduggalbi, manufactured by C and L domestic companies had very low contents of residual nitrite, for below the legal tolerance limit of 70 ppm, and the residual nitrite decreased with storage. The reduction in nitrite content differed with each product, showing the greatest reduction in Vienna sausage and the least reduction in bacon when stored at $4^{\circ}C$. On the other hand, when stored at $-20^{\circ}C$, the nitrite content of bacon decreased more rapidly than the other meat products. The results of this study show that the nitrite content of meat products decreases during storage, and that the rate of decrease is quite dependent on the storage temperature. In addition, the nitrite contents of most domestic meat products are very low compared to the legal limits, thus the health risks of nitrite in meat products might not be of great concern. More research on the reduction of residual nitrite and on the development of alternatives to nitrite is necessary.
