Studies on the Synthesis of Aminated PP-g-GMA Fibrous ion Exchanger by E-beam Pre-irradiation and Their Properties of Selective Adsorption for $NO_{3} ^{-}$ (E-beam 전조사에 의한 $NO_{3} ^{-}$ 선택 흡착용 아민화 PP-g-GMA 섬유 이온교환체의 합성과 그 특성에 관한 연구)

  • In order to remove $NO_3;^-$ ion from ground-water, fibrous ion -exchangers, APP-g-GMA, were synthesized by GMA grafting onto PP trunk polymer with E-beam accelerator for pre-irradiation. Their degrees of grafting and amination yield increased up to $60^{\circ}C$ and showed maximum values as 133%, 88%, respectively. And their swelling ratio and ion exchange capacity at the maximum values are 86%, 2.5 meq/g, respectively which was higher than commercial ion-exchangers such as IMAC HP555 and Amberlite IRA 400. Optimum adsorption condition of $NO_3;^-$ ion was measured at pH 5~6 and -Cl form of APP-g-GMA containing trimethylammonium group showed the highest adsorption capacity.

  • A comparative study has been carried out on the removal of impurities such As, Sb, Bi from the copper sulfate solution by ion exchange resin containing aminophosphosphonic acid as functional group. The various parameters which affect the removal of impurities; such as the reaction temperature, the reaction time, the amount of ion-exchange resins, the concentration of sulfuric acid in electrolyte, were studied. The basic experimental results showed that about 88% of Sb & 94% of Bi can be adsorbed in these chelate resins and removed from the copper sulfate solutions but As was removed below 10% from the solutions. And the selective elution of Bi and Sb from the adsorbed ion exchange resin also can be achieved by $H_2SO_4$ or HCl solutions. The results also showed that 98.1% of Sb and 96.6% of Bi can be adsorbed from the copper sulfate solutions after 2 Bed-volume of continuous ion exchange column test.

  • Cationic polycarbonate type polyurethane was prepared from the quaternization reaction of N-methyldiethanolamine(MDEA) in urethane backbone which was obtained from the reaction of polycarbonate polyol, MDI and MDEA(chain exetender). Tensile strength and modulus of the cationic urethane resins were increased sharply with increasing the ionic content in urethane backbone. But hydrolysis resistance was decreased with increasing ionic contents. The selectivity of the cationic polycabonate urethane membrane for water/ethanol separation by pervaporation was about 20. The carrier mediated transport mechanism was considered the most probable separation mechanism for these membranes.

  • The sorption behavior of some metal ions on XAD-16-CTA chelating resin was investigated by batch method. The sorption of chelating resin was highly selective for Hf(IV), Zr(IV) and Th(IV) at pH 3.0 ~ 6.0 and the maximum sorption capacity of Zr(IV) ion was 0.81 mmol/g. It was successfully applied to the separation of several rare metal ions from mixed metal solutions by using CDTA, EDTA, NTA and $NH_4F$ as masking agent. The elution order of metal ions obtained from breakthrough capacity and the overall capacity at pH 4.0 was Zr(IV)>Th(IV)>Hf(IV)>U(VI)>Cu(II)>In(III)>Pb(II). Desorption characteristics for metal ions was investigated with desorption agents such as HCl, $HNO_3$, $HClO_4$. 2 M HCl showed high desorption efficiency. Th(IV) ion can be successfully separated from mixed metal ions by using XAD-16-CTA cheating resin.

Studies on the Selective Separation and Preconcentration of Cr(VI) Ion by XAD-16-Chromotropic Acid Chelating Resin (XAD-16-Chromotropic Acid 킬레이트 수지에 의한 몇 가지 금속이온의 선택적 분리 및 농축에 관한 연구)

  • A new polystyrene-divinylbenzene chelating resin containing 4,5-dihydroxy-naphthalene-2,7-disulfonic acid (chromotropic acid : CTA) as functional group has been synthesized and characterized. The sorption and desorption properties of this chelating resin for Cr(III) ion and Cr(VI) ion including nine metal bloodstain. As a results, FOB test kit could be effectively applied to identification of human blood at chelating resin was stable in acidic and alkaline solution. The Cr(VI) ion is selectively separated from Cr (III) ion at pH 2 and the maximum sorption capacity of Cr(VI) ion is 1.2 mmol/g. In the presence of anions such as $F^-$, $SO{_4}^{2-}$, $CN^-$, $CH_3COO^-$, $NO{_3}^-$, the sorption of Cr(VI) ion was reduced but anions such as $PO{_4}^{3-}$ and $Cl^-$ revealed no interference effect. The elution order of metal ions obtained from breakthrough capacity and overall capacity at pH 2 was Cr(VI)>Sn(II)>Fe(III)>Cu(II)>Cd(II)${\simeq}Pb(II){\simeq}Cr(III){\simeq}Mn(II){\simeq}Ni(II){\simeq}Al(III)$. Desorption characteristics for Cr(VI) ion was investigated with desorption agents such as $HNO_3$, HCl, and $H_2SO_4$. It was found that the ion showed high desorption efficiency with 3 M HCl. As the result, the chelating resin, XAD-16-CTA was successfully applied to separation and preconcentration of Cr (VI) ion from several metal ions in metal finishing works.

  • Several new ion exchange resins have been synthesized from chloromethyl styrene-l,4-divinylbenzine with 1%, 2%, 10% and 20%-crosslink and macrocyclic ligands of cryptand type by interpolymerization method. The adsorption characteristics and the pH, time, solvents and concentration dependence of the adsorption of metal ions by this resin were studied. The correlation between the separation characteristics of uranium and transition metal on the resins and the stability constants of complexes with macrocyclic ligands have been examined. The resins were very stable in both acidic and basic media and have good resistance to heat. The $UO_2^{2+}$ was not adsorbed on the resins below pH 3.0, but the power of adsorption of $UO_2^{2+}$ increased rapidly above pH 4.0. The optimum equilibrium time for adsorption of metallic ions was two hours and adsorptive power decreased in proportion to crosslink size of the resins and order of dielectric constants of solvents used and the selective sequence for metal cations was in the order of $UO_2^{2+}$, $Ni{2+}$ and $Nd{3+}$.

A study on the optimization of Ion Exchange Resin operating conditions for removal of KCl from CKD extract (CKD 추출액내 KCl 제거를 위한 이온교환수지 조업조건 최적화 연구)

  • The CKD extract is wastewater from which KCl in CKD has been removed to reuse CKD as a cement raw material, and tried to reuse no extracts due to problems such as wastewater treatment facility expansion. As a result of removing KCl by the ion exchange method, the pH of the extract after ion exchange decreased from 12.7 to less than pH 2, and it was confirmed that H+ of the cation exchange resin was dissolved in the extract through ion exchange. In addition, the selectivity of the ion exchange was removed in the order of Ca2+, K+, it was determined that the increase in the contact time to remove the K+ ions. The batch system had a contact time of 6 times or more, compared to the continuous system, and showed 4 times of K+ removal efficiency and 7 times of Cl- removal efficiency. It was showed by analyzing the pH of the extract that more H+ of the cation exchange resin was extracted than OH- of anion exchange resin as the pH of the extract was changed.

Synthesis and Characterization of Chelating Resins Containing Thiol Croups (티올기를 함유하는 킬레이트 수지의 합성 및 특성)

  • Three kinds of macro-reticular bead-typed chelating resins having thiol groups were obtained from basic resins like poly(strene-co-divinylbenzene) (PSD) and poly(styrene-co-methyl methacrylate-co-divinylbenzene) (PSMD): the chelating resin (I) was prepared by chloromethylation of phenyl rings of PSD followed by thiolation using thiourea. The chelating resin (ll) was designed to provide enough space to chelate heavy metal ions; one chloromethyl group was obtained by chlorination of hydroxymethyl group provided by reduction of carboxylic ester group of PSMD and another chloromethyl group was obtained by direct chloromethylation of pendent phenyl group using chloromethyl methyl ether. Both of chloromethyl groups were thiolated by using thiourea. The chelating resin (III) was prepared by chlorosulfonation of phenyl rings of PSD followed by thiolation using sodium hydrosulfide. The adsorbtivity toward heavy metal ions was evaluated. The hydrophobic chelating resin (I) with thiol groups showed highly selective adsorption capacity f3r mercury ions. However, the chelating resin (II) with thiol groups showed mere effective adsorption capacity toward mercury ions than chelating resin (I) with thiol groups, and showed some adsorption capacity for other heavy metal ions like Cu$\^$2+/, Pb$\^$2+/, Cd$\^$2+/ and Cr$\^$3+/. On the other hand, the chelating resin (III) which have hydrophilic thiosulfonic acid groups was found to be effective adsorbents for some heavy metal ions such as Hg$\^$2+/, Cu$\^$2+/, Ni$\^$2+/, Co$\^$2+/, Cr$\^$3+/ and especially Cd$\^$2+/ and Pb$\^$2+/.

  • 원자력연구소에 보관 중인 오염 토양폐기물을 토양 세척법으로 제염하여 비 방사성폐기물화 한다면 그 부피를 10% 이하로 저감시킬 수 있으며 연구소의 고체 방사성폐기물 저장 용량을 크게 늘릴 수 있다. 1988년 발견 당시 오염 토양 폐기물의 주요 방사성 핵종은 Co-60 이었는데 시간경과에 따라 Cs-134, 137 이 주요 방사성 핵종이 되었다. 오염토양 폐기물의 60 % 이상은 방사능 농도가 극히 낮아 물리적으로 입도를 분리하거나 수 세척에 의해 비 방사성폐기물화 할 수 있음을 파악하였다.(중략)

Adsorption Behavior of Metal ions by Na-Cellulose (Na-셀룰로스에 대한 금속이온들의 흡착성에 관한 연구)

  • A Na-cellulose adsorbent was prepared by treating Sigma S-5504 cellulose with 2M NaOH and examined the adsorption behavior between metal ions and Na-cellulose in aqueous solution with batch method. Considering ion exchange capacity of Na-cellulose, the adsorption ratio of the Na-cellulose to metals charge equivalent indicated that the adsorption result from ion exchanging between metal ions and Na-cellulose. The enthalpy for the metal adsorption on the Na-cellulose was calculated to -18kcal/mol, which value was compared to those of carboxymethylcellulose(CMC) and Dowex 50W-X8, these result suggested that the adsorption on Na-cellulose resulted from ion exchange adsorption.
