  • 이온교환방법은 착색된 유리를 생산하기 위하여 수세기 전부터 연구되어 왔다. 1972년 Izawa와 Nagome가 silicate 유리에 Tl$^{+}$이온을 치환하여 평판 도파로를 만든 후, 이온교환은 도파로나 마이크로 렌즈제작 등에 활발하게 연구되어 왔다. 유리 도파로는 광의 진행손실이 적으며, 광섬유와의 우수한 호환성, 그리고, 제작이 용이하고 가격이 싼 장점 등으로 인하여 많은 연구가 진행되고 있는 재료이다. 그러나, 유리에 이온교환으로 광소자를 만들기 위해서는 굴절률변화를 정확하게 예측해야한다. 따라서, 유리에서 이온들의 확산특성을 정확하게 분석하고 실험적으로 확립하는 연구는 매우 중요하다고 하겠다. A design and fabrication of asymmetric Y-branch optical power splitters by $Ag^+-Na^+$ ion exchange ($Ag^+-Na^+$ 이온교환법을 이용한 비대칭형 Y-분리기의 설계 및 제작)

  • In this paper, we have fabricated asymmetric Y-branch optical power splitters with various optical power splitting ratios by changing the width of one of the output waveguides using $Ag^+-Na^+$ ion change method in BK7 glass. The transmission characteristics of asymmetric Y-branch optical power splitters with different output waveguide width have been investigated using the finitedifference beam propagation method (FD-BPM). We have found the index of the channel waveguide formed by Ag+-Na+ ion change method in BK7 glass and have fabricated channel waveguides to examine the transmission characteristics of channel waveguide. And we have fabricated asymmetric Y-branch optical power splitters with output waveguide width from TEX>$4{\mu}m$ to $6{\mu}m$. /TEX>.

  • One step thermal potassium ion exchange process was carried out to form optical channel waveguides in an ErNb co-doped phosphate glass. Flowing oxygen gas into KN03 melt during ion exchange was effective to prevent glass surface damage that causes an increase of waveguide propagation loss. Amplification characteristics of the waveguides were evaluated at $1.5{\mu}m$ signal wavelength with 980 om laser diode pump. A 45 mm long waveguide whose processing parameters had been optimized exhibited a small signal net gain of 7.5 dB at the launched pump power of 160 mW.160 mW.

  • Silver ion-exchanged glass waveguide with its large surface index difference and shallow depth is suitable to be used for the hybrid integration of semiconductor device and glass waveguide using the semiconductor film grafting technique. We report characteristics of the planar and channel glass waveguides exchanged in the diluted silver nitrate melt in the visible and infrared spectral region. Especially, we determined the fabrication parameters for single-mode channel waveguide at 1.5.$\mu$m, an important wavelength in the optical communication. Directional couplers with several different configurations were fabricated, and their 3 dB coupling length was determined as a function of wavelenGh and polarization.

  • In this study, we performed a modeling for $K^{+}$ ion-exchanged diffused channel waveguide and waveguide-type optical coupler by Wentzel-Kramer-Brillouin(WKB) dispersion equation, normalized field distribution equation for mode and coupled mode theory, and examined the optical-power-dividing of the optical coupler fabricated by using the modeling condition. The optical-power-dividing was observed at the waveguide-type optical coupler with 3[.mu.m] line-width, 6[.mu.m] space between channel waveguides, and 3[mm] interaction length.h.

  • 본 논문에서는 BK7 유리 기판에 Ag$^{+}$-$Na^{+}$ 이온교환법을 이용하여 1.31/1.55$mu extrm{m}$ 방향성 광결합기형 역다중화기를 제작하여 특성을 평가하였다. BK7에 이온교환법을 이용하여 도파로를 제작할 경우 0.2dB/cm 이하의 전파손실을 유지할 수 있으며 또한 도파로의 굴절율 분포가 단일모드 광섬유와 매우 유사하여 광섬유와 광소자 사이의 접합면에서 발생하는 접합손실을 줄일 수 있다 또한 BK7을 이용하면 도파로를 제작하였을 때 복굴절 현상이나 편광 의존성이 적어서 수동 소자 제작에 유용하다는 장점이 있다$^{(1 3)}$ .   • In this paper, it was investigated the guided field intensity distribution of the channel in the silver & potassium ion-exchange glass-waveguide. The guided field intensity distribution analysis of ion-exchange glass-waveguide was based on the combination of the WKB dispersion relationship method with a Gaussian distribution function of refractive index profile and the Field Shadow method to the modeling of the channel waveguide. As the results of the channel waveguide modeling, it was represented 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional field distribution of ion-exchange glass waveguide.

  • We have investigated the characteristics of planar optical waveguides formed by silver ion-exchange. Experimental values of the effective indices of guided modes were obtained by measuring the synchronous angles of strongest coupling. Definition of an effective diffusion constant leads to the mode-dispersion curves applicable over a wide range of fabrication conditions. In order to compare experimental and theoretical results, We have plotted each mode index of a wide range of fabrication conditions.
