This study examines and compares public library services for immigrants in the U.S. in the early 1900s and nowadays. U.S. public libraries in the early 1900s supported the Americanizing movement by opening English language classes and providing information that is essential for U.S. citizenship. Public librarians also recognized the importance of foreign language materials; by providing foreign language materials and developing diverse services to reach immigrants, public libraries eventually hastened assimilation processes. Despite a gap of one hundred years, the situation today is not very different. Public libraries still try hard to serve their ethnic patrons with extensive foreignlanguage collections and culturally diverse library programs, while still emphasizing English language education.

뉴욕시 정부의 이민자들에 대한 다각적인 접근과 시도에도 불구하고 의료 서비스 제공자들과 대상자간에 언어적 장벽과 문화적 차이로 인한 상호협조의 어려움은 계속되고있다. 본 연구는 뉴욕시 보건국 소속 다민족 다문화 계층의 의료수준 향상을 위한 노력의 일환으로 실시된 프로젝트 중 일부이다. 뉴욕시의 한국 이민자들이 뉴욕시에서 증가하는 추세를 감안할 때, 이들의 의료시설 이용 및 서비스 수혜에 대한 기초 조사를 실시하여 한국 이민자들의 문화적 배경과 그로 기인한 건강 신념을 알고자하는 시 정부 차원의 요구가 이 연구의 배경이다. 즉, 한국이민 사회의 독특한 특성을 뉴욕시 정부 관련 의료서비스 제공자들에게 그 이해를 높여서 한국 이민자들의 미국에서의 의료서비스 수혜의 기회를 높이고자 한 것이다. 기초 관련 연구가 전무한 한국 이민자들의 건강관련 이슈를 다루기 위해 미국 센서스와 병원 입퇴원 기록 현황에 나타난 한국인 혹은 아시안의 의료보장 실태 등을 고찰하였고, 한국이민사회의 주요 기관의 대표들과의 면담과 이민자들을 대상으로 한 직접 설문조사로 자료를 수집하여 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 한국 이민자들은 한국어를 주요 언어$(83\%)$로 사용하는 것으로 나타나 문화의 동화율이 낮았고, 낮은 문화 동화율은 의료 서비스 접근도를 낮추는 요인으로 나타났다. 또한, 의료 보험이 없는 것$(55\%)$이 가장 큰 요인으로 지적되었는데, 이는 미국 직장에 적응하기 어려운 이민생활로 자영업을 주로 하는 생활 양태가 비싼 사 보험(private health insurance)을 사지 못하는 요인과 관련되어있다고 본다. 따라서, 주로 이용하는 의료 서비스의 종류에도 많은 제한점이 있어서, $60\%$가 한국인 의사를 선호하며, $31\%$가 한국인 약사에게 건강관리를 의존하는 것으로 나타나 미국사회의 의료 서비스 접근도는 극히 취약한 것으로 드러났다. 의료서비스 접근을 막는 주요 장벽으로는 비싼 의료비 $(53\%)$ , 의사소통장애$(37\%)$로 나타났다. 보건의료 서비스를 위해 주로 이용하며 생활의 정보를 얻는 통로로는 한국어 신문$(69\%)$과 한국어 TV$(61\%)$, 한국어 라디오 $(57\%)$로 밝혀졌다. 결론적으로 한국 이민자들에게 좀더 나은 의료 서비스 수혜를 위해서는 문화 친밀도가 높은 의료환경 조성 및 의료 서비스 제공자들의 이해를 높이는 일 등과 함께 한국 이민자들이 의료보험을 살수 있도록 한국어로 된 의료 서비스 정보를 제공하는 등의 노력이 필요할 것으로 생각한다.

A female marriage immigrant is one of the most remarkable group as Korea entering a multicultural society. It is necessary that they get various supports to become a part of our Korean society, and social services and information accessibility are really important things to give them such supports effectively. This research focused on the problems that female marriage immigrants are facing in their marriage life and a process of adaptation in Korea. This research analyzed the actual conditions and the differences of social services and information accessibility classified by the problems female marriage immigrants are facing, their nationality, and their residence. On the basis of the results, this research provided the ways to raise the level of social services and information accessibility and also optimize social services for them.

The purpose of this study is to current status of library services for immigrants in Korea, where the number of immigrants reaches one million. To do this, the cases of library services for immigrants in North America and Europe were investigated and persons in charge who work in 10 public libraries and 5 private libraries serving immigrants in Korea were interviewed. Also, research articles, newspapers and related websites are utilized. Current status and limitations of library services for immigrants were discussed and some suggestions were presented.

This study aims to examine the moderating effects of social support and subjective social status in the relationship between discrimination and self-rated health among foreign spouses. For the analysis, data from the 2015 National Survey of Multicultural Families was used and a total of 16,870 foreign spouses were selected using hierarchical regression analysis. The results of this study showed that discrimination was negatively related with self-rated health while social support and subjective social status were positively related with self-rated health of foreign spouses. Also, the moderating effect of subjective social status was identified, which means that it enhanced the positive effect of discrimination on self-rated health. This study provided empirical evidence for implementation of social integration policies. The authors suggested future qualitative research of discrimination and health, and social policies and services promoting equal opportunities for foreign spouses.

The purpose of this study was to examine the health status of marriage immigrants and naturalized people, their health service utilization and barriers to that in an effort to seek ways of getting rid of their difficulties in health service utilization. The raw data of a 2012 Survey on the State of Multicultural Families were used, and a survey was conducted on 15,001 marriage immigrants and naturalized people from July 10 to July 31, 2012. As a result, the marriage immigrants and the naturalized people got a mean of 3.96 in subjective health status, which showed that they were in good health. The main medical institutions that they used in times of sickness were hospitals and clinics(82.7%). 39.1 percent of the respondents answered they had difficulties in using health service, and the most dominant difficulty they faced at that time was communication problems(52.0%), followed by high expense(28.9%). The respondents who answered they found it most difficult to use health service due to communication lagged behind the others in terms of Korean proficiency, and the respondents who cited expense as the biggest difficulty fell behind the others in terms of living standard. To make health service more accessible to marriage immigrants and naturalized people, the government should take measures to ensure their right of health. Specifically, how to relieve their financial burden should carefully be devised, and medical institutions should provide interpretation service to guarantee their easier health service utilization.

본 연구는 서비스제공자의 고객지향성이 관계 질(만족, 신뢰 및 몰입) 및 재구매의도에 어떠한 영향을 주는가를 탐색하고자 의료서비스구매자를 대상으로 실증분석한 것이다. 구체적으로 본 연구의 모델을 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 먼저 서비스제공자가 갖는 고객지향성을 최종 결과변수인 재구매의도의 선행변수로 설정하였고, 이러한 고객지향성은 관계 질인 만족, 신뢰 및 몰입을 매개하여 재구매의도에 영향을 미치는 것으로 가정하였다. 이러한 연구모형을 검증하기 위해 종합병원에 입원한 환자 267명을 대상으로 실증분석하였다. 분석결과를 정리하면 다음과 같다. 서비스제공자의 고객지향성은 서비스구매자의 만족에 영향을 주며, 이러한 만족은 신뢰 및 몰입에 영향을 주고, 또한 재구매의도에 직접적으로도 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 재구매의도는 신뢰 및 만족에 의해서도 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 본 연구애서 얻어진 결과를 토대로 관리적 시사점을 제시하였다.

Knowledge about somatization (somatic manifestation of psychological distress symptoms) among immigrant populations is limited. While several studies have recognized somatization as a culturally distinctive expression of depression amongst older Korean immigrant population, somatization has not been incorporated into the comprehensive empirical model for depression of this population. In order to improve our general understanding of the phenomenon, the objective of this study is to empirically investigate principal contributing factors of somatization as well as inter-relationships among them. Data were collected from a cross-sectional community survey of 234 older Korean immigrants ($$age{\geq_-}55$$) in the New York metropolitan area. The statistical methodology employed a robust hierarchical regression procedure that iteratively downweights outliers. The results indicated that living arrangement, greater numbers of physical illnesses, and depression were significant explanatory factors of somatization. Furthermore, physical illness had a significant joint effect with perception of health on somatization, which confirms that positive perception of health exerts a moderating effect on the relationship between physical illness and somatization. The knowledge obtained from this study will contribute toward extending our knowledge on somatization and implementing more culturally sensitive mental health services for this population.

This study was designed to investigate the health information usage of immigrants. A questionnaire survey was conducted on 171 immigrants. Data was analyzed for descriptive statistics, chi-square test, and Fisher's exact test. The frequency of migrants' use of health information is low, and the number of respondents who use health information less than once a month is highest. There were statistically significant differences in the frequency of use of health information according to age, occupation, and those who contracted diseases. The main source of health information was the Internet, and there were differences in the sources of health information according to age and whether the Internet was used. Most of the respondents used health information for themselves, and there was a difference in the targets of using health information according having a cohabitee and the perceived health status. It was found that the majority of immigrants do not actively use health information. However, when the age increased or the immigrant was unhealthy, the use of health information increased to solve health problems. Therefore, it is important to provide health information in a variety of ways according to the characteristics of immigrants.

2014년 2월 정보통신 진흥 및 융합 활성화 등에 관한 특별법(ICT 특별법)이 시행되었고, 2014년 6월 의료법개정에 따른 원격의료서비스 시범사업이 가능해졌다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 병원을 방문하여 진료 후에 약 처방을 받던 일반적인 내시경 의료서비스와 병원 방문 없이 전화를 이용한 진료 및 처방과 함께 약을 배송해 주는 원격의료서비스를 의료서비스 제공자들을 대상으로 FGI(Focus Group Interview)를 통하여 비교하였다. 본 연구는 향후 보다 나은 내시경환자를 위한 원격의료서비스 설계를 위한 기초자료로 활용될 것으로 기대한다.
