Analysis of the Utility of Emoticons as a Communication Tool (커뮤니케이션 수단으로써 이모티콘이 가지는 효용성 분석)

  • In this study, we learned about the emergence of on-line communications originating from peoseuteol Computer Communications, the limitations of online communication, and the definition, traits and development of emoticons that serve as complementary roles, such as emotion and status. After analyzing various literacture and references, it was found that the emoticons functioned as a function of communicating the visual language of the digital era and communicating more sensitively to emotional factors. In a multimedia environment, emoticons are developed at a more advanced stage as the users' own icons due to a stronger tendency to pursue particularity and uniqueness. It is expected that eomotions added with multimedia functions will be more popular and vary in type. However, although the diversification of emotions as a commercial tool is already actively progressing, there appears a reverse effect in which an excessive use of emoticons is considered insincere in online communications. In such a background, research should be conducted that can support a systematic and effective development of emoticons through visual research rather than producing multimedia emoticons indiscreetly.

The Structural Relationship among Trust in MIM, Attitude toward Emoticons, and the Intention to Purchase Emoticons in Kakao Talk (모바일 인스턴트 메신저에 대한 신뢰, 이모티콘 사용 태도와 이모티콘 구매의도 사이의 구조적 관계: 카카오톡 사례)

  • The communication via MIM(Mobile Instant Messenger) has unique characteristics; one of them is use of emoticons. Although using emoticons in MIM is getting a lot of attention from business fields and emoticons markets in MIM is growing rapidly, there are little researches focused on emoticons in MIM in consumer behaviors and marketing area. So, the purpose of this study is to fill this theoretical and practical gap. For this purpose, we explore the effect of and trust in MIM system and attitude toward use of emoticons on purchase intention to emotions in MIM. Our study used structural equation modeling analysis; the results showed that perceived benefits and perceived risk to MIM affected trust in MIM system significantly, more specifically, while perceived benefits affected trust in MIM system positively, perceived risk affected trust in MIM system negatively. We also found that perceived usefulness of emoticon in MIM and flow experience influenced attitude toward use of emoticons positively. Lastly, trust in MIM system and attitude toward use of emoticons had positive effect on purchase intention to emoticons in MIM. The implication and limitations of this study are also discussed.

  • In this paper, new signal model for bio-signal detection, i.e heart beat and respiration, using CW radar. Most research on this similar topic are based on the conventional signal model which is not correct in envisaging reflected signal from the human body. The system developed based on this conventional model can not predict exact performance of the system. So in this paper modified signal model for bio-radar is proposed and then simulation for detecting heartbeat and respiration signal in AWGN, multipath environment.   • This paper discusses the cognitive function of the image, focusing on the thought-evoking function of the image. Collages artworks were developed to determine how specifically the thought-evoking function of an image takes effect in actual cases. In addition, the cognitive responses of the research participants on the image were analyzed, centering on the thought-evoking function of the image, through an in-depth interview. The image performs the function to concentrate attention on a specific object and to process it more thoroughly. The image increases the immersion of the participants, evoked thought and activated conversation. This study probed the cognitive function of the image and is expected to greatly expand our understanding of human cognition. In particular, it is expected to provide useful insight into the integration of science and art.

  • 본 논문에서는 인터넷 메신저를 위한 새로운 감성 인터페이스를 제안한다. 이는 상용 인터넷 메신저에 시각과 촉각 정보를 이용한 입력과 표현 기술을 적용하여 원격지 사용자 간의 감성 교류의 증대를 목적으로 한다. 본 연구에서는 문헌조사 및 메신저 사용자 설문조사를 기반으로 감정에 대한 분류 및 응용 대상이 되는 주요 감정을 추출하였고, 이를 바탕으로 시각과 촉각적 정보를 포함하는 visual icon으로써 ECON(Emotional ICON)을 정의하였다. 이 ECON은 ECON Editor를 이용하여 생성, 수정, 표현 확인이 가능하도록 하였고, ECON Player, 즉 실제 형체를 가지고 ECON의 동작 정보를 표현하는 새로운 장치를 제작하였다. 이러한 ECON 시스템을 인터넷 메신저와 연동하여 메신저의 이모티콘처럼 ECON을 사용함으로써 상대방의 감정을 시각적, 촉각적으로 표현함과 동시에 직관적인 입력을 제공하여 Emotional Interface 환경을 구축하였다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 ECON의 정의, ECON Editor의 구현, 키보드받침과 입술 모양으로 형상화된 ECON Player의 제작 및 메신저와 연동되어 동작하는 전체 ECON시스템에 관하여 설명하고, 또한 메신저 응용에 기반한 Emotional Interface에 대한 사용자의 평가와 향후 연구 방향에 대해서 기술한다.

Design and Implementation of Mobile Communication System for Hearing- impaired Person (청각 장애인을 위한 모바일 통화 시스템 설계 및 구현)

  • According to the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning's survey of information gap, smartphone retention rate of disabled people stayed in one-third of non-disabled people, the situation is significantly less access to information for people with disabilities than non-disabled people. In this paper, we develop an application, CallHelper, that helps to be more convenient to use mobile voice calls to the auditory disabled people. CallHelper runs automatically when a call comes in, translates caller's voice to text output on the mobile screen, and displays the emotion reasoning from the caller's voice to visualize emoticons. It also saves voice, translated text, and emotion data that can be played back.

  • After arranging the general usability evaluation criteria of existing VUI researchers, this study verified how appropriate these criteria are for AI VUI specialized in navigation and the priority of their suitability. The VUI used in this study was analyzed through a survey from a total of 195 Chinese users after analyzing the navigation VUI used in China. As a result of the analysis, the usability evaluation criteria of the navigation VUI were extracted from three sub-factors of 'task accuracy', 'function satisfaction', and 'information reliability' in verifying conformance with general VUI evaluation criteria. With the recent advent of self-driving cars, safety and response speed are becoming very important, so Chinese users also ranked responsiveness as the top priority in VUI design, and the importance was also found to be high. Also, both men and women have the highest reactivity and the lowest multiplicity. VUI requires a convenient and natural interface to understand the intention between two objects through usability evaluation and verification in order to have effective interaction between humans and machines.

Emotion Classification System for Chatting Data (채팅 데이터의 기분 분류 시스템)

  • It's a trend that the proportion of using an internet messenger among on-line communication methods is getting increased. However, there are not many applications which efficiently utilize these messenger communication data. Messenger communication data have specific characteristics that reflect the user's linguistic habits. The linguistic habits are revealed through frequently used words and emoticons, and user's emotions can be grasped by these. This paper proposes the method that efficiently classifies the emotions of a messenger user using frequently used words or symbols. The emotion classifier from repeated experiments achieves high accuracy of more than 95%.

  • 항공사진을 이용하여 하천의 경년변화를 조사하다 보면, 사주 변동에 따라 하천의 주 흐름이 다양하게 변화되고 있음을 알 수 있다. 이처럼 특정 하천의 지정된 구간에서의 흐름변동은 많은 시간에 걸쳐 이루어진다. 바꾸어 말하면, 짧은 시간 동안 자연하천에서의 주 흐름 변화를 관찰 하기는 일반적으로 매우 어렵다. 본 연구에서는 이틀이라는 짧은 시간 동안에, 하천에서의 주 흐름 변동에 따른 특성변화를 조사하였다. 이러한 조사는 "조정지 댐에서의 수문 조작"이라는 인위적인 방법을 동원함으로서 가능하였다. 모든 조정지 댐에서는 하천 유지를 위한 일정양의 물을 수문을 통하여 방류한다. 대청댐 하류에 있는 조정지 댐에는 폭이 약 10m에 이르는 10개의 수문이 있다. 평상시에는 우안으로부터 5번째에 있는 중앙의 수문을 개방하여 초당 약 18톤의 물을 방류한다. 그러므로 본 연구에서는 방류하고자 하는 지점의 수문높이를 조정하여 일정량을 유지한 채, 수문의 위치를 중앙에서 좌안 그리고 우안의 순으로 변경 하였다. 방류 수문 위치를 변경함에 따라 하천에서의 수리특성을 조사하기 위하여, 흐름이 안정 될 때까지 충분히 기다린 후, 각각의 경우에서의 하류지역을 대상으로 현지관측 및 수치실험을 실시하였다. 조사는, 첫째 지형측량, 유량측정 및 수위변동 등을 포함한 정밀현장조사, 둘째 일반적인 모델에 정밀조사 결과를 적용시킴으로서 얻을 수 있는 가시화 기법 개발 등의 순으로 진행하였다. 수치실험에 사용한 모델은 하천에서의 흐름거동을 2차원적으로 해석하는데 많이 사용되고 있는 상용프로그램인 SMS (Surface-Water Modeling System)의 RMA2 모형이다. 이모형은 RMA (Resource Management Associates, Inc.)에 의해 처음 개발된 2차원 유한요소 모델이며 지배방정식은 z방향을 수심 적분한 2차원 천수방정식으로, x와 y방향에 대한 Navier-Stokes 방정식과 연속 방정식으로 구성된다. 본 연구에서는 현장 조사 시 지배인자 파악의 중요성 및 수치계산을 위한 검증자료의 필요성을 강조하기 위하여, 일반적인 방법으로 수행한 계산 결과 및 다양한 현장 특성을 고려한 계산 결과를 비교 하였다. 그 결과 본 연구는 (1)최신 장비들의 도입 및 검증과 기존 장비의 활용 범위 확대, (2)기존의 상용 프로그램을 이용한 하천 흐름특성의 가시화 실현 등에 의의가 있다고 사료된다.

Landscape Planning and Design Methods with Human Thermal Sensation (인간 열환경 지수(HumanThermal Sensation)를 이용한 조경계획 및 디자인 방법)

  • Human thermal sensation based on a human energy balance model was analyzed in the study areas, the Changwon and Nanaimo sites, on clear days during thesummer of 2009. The climatic input data were air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and solar and terrestrial radiation. The most effective factors for human thermal sensation were direct beam solar radiation, building view factor and wind speed. Shaded locations had much lower thermal sensation, slightly warm, than sunny locations, very hot. Also, narrow streets in the Nanaimo site had higher thermal sensation than open spaces because of greater reflected solar radiation and terrestrial radiation from their surrounding buildings. Calm wind speed also produced much higher thermal sensation, which reduced sensible and latent heat loss from the human body. By adopting climatic factors into landscape architecture, the human thermal sensation analysis method promises to help create thermally comfortable outdoor areas. The method can also be used for urban heat island modification and climate change studies.
