Prop-blade Cross Section Design for QTP-UAV (쿼드 틸트 프롭로터 무인기용 프롭-블레이드 단면 설계)

  • Cross section design of a prop-blade is carried out for VTOL(Vertical Takeoff and Landing) Quad Tilt Prop-rotor UAV with a maximum takeoff weight of 55 kg and a maximum cruising speed of 180 km/h. Design procedure for cross section design is established and design requirements for prop-blade are identified. Through the procedure, cross section design is carried out to meet the identified requirements. Main design factors including stiffness, weight per unit length, and elastic axis are obtained by using a finite element section analysis program, and the design weight of the prop-blade is predicted. The obtained design factors are used along with the rotor system analysis program CAMRAD II to evaluate the dynamic stability of prop-blade in operating environment. In addition, the prop-blade load is obtained by CAMRAD II software, and it is used to verify the safety of the prop-blade structure. If the design results are not satisfactory, design changes are made in an iterative manner until the results satisfy the design requirements.

  • KARI has been conducting R&D for independent development of KSLV-II since 2010. Vehicle holding device is a device for vertically standing SLV on the launch pad of launch complex and fixing the lower part of vehicle in order to firmly fix vehicle so that SLV does not fall from an external load such as a wind load. When thrust generated after the 1st stage engine ignition of SLV must exceed the takeoff weight of vehicle, and holding device should be quickly released so that it does not interfere with takeoff of vehicle like other ground equipment at the beginning of the launch. Pyro-valve is one of the key components constituting VHD, and it should have high reliability and quick response characteristics with similar functional parts applied to launch vehicle separation device and satellite separation device. Through this paper, I intend to broaden the overall understanding of the development process of pyro-valve for VHD and KSLV-II.

Test and Evaluation of the Propeller Developed for a Multi-copter with the Take-off Weight of 25 kg (이륙 중량 25 kg급 멀티콥터용 프로펠러 시험 평가)

  • Structural static test and the performance test were conducted to determine whether the propeller developed for a multi-copter with the take-off weight of 25 kg satisfies the design requirement. The result of the structural test revealed that the propeller had a safety margin of 3 or more as the ultimate load and requirement load did not cause the specimen breakage. In the performance test, the propeller generated the hover thrust and maximum thrust of design requirement, and hover efficiency in the operating thrust range was greater than 0.73. Maximum hover efficiency increased by more than 3% compared to the reference propeller and electric power consumption decreased by more than 4% in the operating range. The propeller was found to be successfully developed based on the satisfaction rate of the structural strength requirement and the performance requirement.

  • For drones to be used for industrial or agricultural applications, it is necessary to increase the payload and endurance. Currently, the payload and endurance are limited by the battery technology for electric powered drones. In addition, charging or replacing the batteries may not be a practical solution at the field that requires near continuous operation. In this paper, a procedure to optimize the power system of an electric hybrid drone that consists of an internal combustion engine, a generator, a battery, and electric motors is presented. The example drone for crop dusting is sized for easy transportation with a maximum takeoff weight of 200 kg. The two main rotors that are mechanically connected to the internal combustion engine provides most of the lift. The drone is controled by four electric motors that are driven by the generator. By analyzing the flow of the energy, a methodology to select the optimum propeller and motor among the commercially available models is described. Then, a procedure of finding the optimum operational condition along with the proper gear reduction ratios for the internal combustion engine based on the test data is presented.

  • 이륙중량 4000kg, 10-12인승급 다목적 헬리콥터에 적용가능한 엔진 개량 개발을 목표로 기존 헬리콥터 엔진을 개량대상으로 선정하고 이러한 다목적 헬기의 요구조건에 부합하기 위해 기존 엔진의 요소부품을 재설계하였다. 첫 단계로 최소변경으로 720 hp에서 840 hp로 출력을 증강시키기 위하여 2단 축류압축기의 기존 입구 유도익을 제거하고 익현의 길이를 증가하여 유량 및 압축비를 증가시킴으로써 출력 증강을 얻도록 재설계를 수행하였다. 이러한 2단 축류압축기의 성능을 검증하기 위하여 두 번째 단 단독시험 및 전체 2단에 대한 성능시험이 수행되었으며 첫 번째 단의 성능은 이 결과로부터 도출되었다. 성능시험결과 전체 2단 압축기는 유량 3.088 kg/s에서 압력비 2.14, 단열효율 88%의 성능을 갖는 것으로 나타났으며 압축기 출구의 압력 및 온도 분포를 레이크를 이용하여 측정하였다.

The Analysis of Mission Profile of the KC-100 UAV (KC-100 무인화 비행체 임무 형상 분석)

  • The KC-100 has completed civil type certification with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, and is currently under development as an unmanned aerial vehicle as part of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport. The Certification Technology of small Unmanned Airplane system (CTsUA system), which is an unmanned KC-100, is being developed to enable the installation of heavy-duty mission equipment and long-time flight missions. This study investigated the process and results of analyzing various parameters such as aircraft weight, airspeed, flight altitude, required horsepower, and fuel consumption at each stage to construct a mission profile based on the operational concept of the CTsUA system. To maintain a maximum take-off weight of 3,600 lbs (1,633 kg), the analysis determined that the weight of the application equipment for the unmanned system should be kept below 80 lbs (36 kg).

  • The final purpose of this study is to develop noise abatement procedures for minimizing the environmental impacts caused by aircraft noise in the vicinity of Gimpo Int'l Airport, and to establish appropriate noise limits and monitoring system. The results of study was suggests for more detail the crucial factors which one is reference noise level, $L_{MAX}=88dB(A)$ at 6.5km after take-off, and second one is to installation the additional three(3) noise monitoring system on both side of runway.

  • TR-60 틸트로터 무인기는 전장 3m, 최대이륙중량 200kg로서 2013년 2월 자동천이비행에 성공한 비행체로서 현재 해상운용을 위한 함상이착륙기술을 개발 중에 있다. 무인기 해상운용은 육상보다 심한 염무와 바람과 선박의 운동에 의한 착륙대의 이동 등의 열악한 환경에서 이루어져야 한다. 이동이 있는 착륙대와 착륙장 주변의 장애물을 고려하면 정확한 착륙을 위한 정밀한 항법유도가 요구된다. TR-60의 정밀항법유도를 위해서 수cm 단위의 정확도를 갖는 RTK GPS 기반의 정밀상대항법과 이동 착륙장 대한 자동착륙유도를 설계하고 구현함으로 함상자동 이착륙 기술을 개발하였다. 본 논문에서는 RTK GPS 기반의 정밀상대항법과 자동착륙유도에 대한 연구와 함상접근착륙절차에 따른 자동착륙정확도 측정 비행시험 결과를 기술하였다.

  • Performance analyses were performed on a propeller developed for use in a PAV (Personal Air Vehicle) under 600 kg Maximum Take-Off Weight (MTOW). The actuator disc theory and CFD analyses were used to estimate the hovering time with regards to MTOW variation for a given battery weight. The interference induced power factor kint was introduced to account for the effect of flow interference between the propellers and to estimate the performance of counter-rotating propellers. The Maximum Figure of Merit (FM) value of the propeller pitch was determined and the design RPM range for the required power inversely obtained from the CFD results. Previous research indicate that the flight time of large multi-copter is limited by the available battery energy density. Similarly, the propeller pitch settings and spacing are important factors in reducing the kint value.
