Hwaseo Lee Hang-ro's View of Scholarship and the World of his Poetry (화서 이항로의 학문관과 시세계)

  • This thesis examines the reality of Hwaseo's view of scholarship established through the various academic roots, and explains the writing techniques in his poetic world. The results are as follows; With the roots including the Five Books of Confucianism, Five Classics, the books of Zhuxi and Songjadaejeon, Hwaseo established his own scholarship based on the principle of 'keeping of piety and acting with prudence(持敬致愼)'. And he pursued a practical discipline in parallel with 'understanding the utmost principle and extension of knowledge(致知)' and 'diligent self-cultivation(力行)'. The characteristics of his poetic techniques are the use of quotation and interweaving narrative with discussion. He did not stay in just borrowing or variations on the quotation, but gave new meanings beyond the acceptation, and even reached the point of creating newly coined words. He made pithy narratives according to historical events and character's activities, put forward some discussions, and then expressed his emotion. In particular, there were the poems described by interweaving narrative with discussion based on Mencius's historical viewpoint of 'repetition of peaceful times and troublous times one by one(一治一亂)', which could be regarded as the most representative works of his literary value as well as the essence of his scholarship and ideas.

  • Seo Dai-chun emphasized the importance of attack on the miasma and created a school to follow classical medical books such as "Nai Kyung"and "Sang Han Ron". Intimate connection between the theory and clinical experience was an unique feature and future generation including Chin Su-won and Wang Tai-lim were deeply influenced. His medical theology and medical case is presented in "Eui Hak Won Ryu Ron"and "Hoi Kye Eui An".

  • 송대(宋代)에는 상한학(傷寒學)에 대하여 많은 연구가 진행되었다. 그 중에 대표적인 의가가 허숙미(許叔微)이다. 그는 자신이 직접 임증(臨訂)에서 경험한 것을 토대로 "상한론(傷寒論)"을 증(證)에 따라 분류하여 변증논치의 발전을 추동하고 가결형식(歌訣形式)으로 편집하여 임상응용에 접근을 용이하게 하였다. 그리고 임상각과(臨床各科)의 제방용약(制方用藥)에 대해서도 조예가 깊어 방제학에 대한 발전을 촉진시켰으며 아울러 독특한 의론(醫論)을 전개하였다. 그의 대표적인 저작으로는 "상한백증가(傷寒百證歌)", "상한발미론(傷寒發微論)", "상한구십론(傷寒九發十論)", "보제본사방(普濟本事方)"등이 있고 후세에 많은 영향을 끼쳤다.

  • This research is an analysis of medical essay article 62 by Jang Jong-jung that is quotated in "Donguibogam". The opinion through out the essay is that the way of healing on the whole is eliminating the origin of illness above all. Three methods of sweating, vomiting, and purging that Jang applied are profoundly connected to this opinion. Non-medicinal treatment of emotion disorders that is quoted in "Donguibogam" is also closely related. The consideration of Unqi(circulating qi) as the best way of searching etiological factor, pathology, and treatment, in "Donguibogam" is close to the view of medical essay by Jang Jong-jung.

Constriction of a hot-wire anemometer (熱線流速計의 試作硏究)

  • Hot-wire anemometer with constant temperature hot-wire anemometer bridge, linearizer, D.C. stabilization electric power source and square-wave generater has been constructed for trial and the test has been carried out. As a result the test showed the overall frequency response of 6KHz over the change of air flow and the noise of approximately 1cm/s in an air flow of 10m/s. The accuracy of the lienarizer stands comparison with the existing anemometer and turned out to be relatively good operational characteristics.

  • Dongeuibogam established a new tradition in Korean medicine by integrating the theories of Oriental medicine including eum yang and five elements, heaven man correspondence, and five viscera and six entrails as well as various etiologies, pathogeneses and dialectic theories. The book systematized various medical theories clearly by selecting items in an organized way and developing discussions logically. Thus, the present study chose , analyzed its references, and examined medical theories on 'coughing' in Dongeuibogam focused on the symptoms, etiology, type, dialectic and analogous cases of coughing.

  • Yim Eon Kook was deeply involved in founding Chijongcheong(national tumor medical clinic), a government branch in charge of treating tumors mid-Chosun dynasty. He came to be famous nationwide for curing tumors well and when the royal family was notified of this, they founded the Chijongcheong to supply professional health care. He wrote books on treating tumors such as "chijongjinam" and contributed significantly to the advancement of the tumor treating during his times. He also influenced the development and advancement of tumor-related treatments in late-Chosun as well.
