The Study of Dynamic Safety Using M&S for Integrated Electro-mechanical Actuator Installed on Aircraft (M&S를 이용한 항공기용 통합형 전기식 구동장치의 동적 안전성 연구)

  • Electro-mechanical actuator installed on aircraft consists of a decelerator which magnifies the torque in order to rotate an axis connected with aircraft control surface, a control section which controls the motor assembly through receiving orders from cockpit and a motor assembly which rotates the decelerator. Electro-mechanical actuator controls aircraft altitude, position, landing, takeoff, etc. It is an important part of a aircraft. Aircraft maneuvering causes vibrations to electro-mechanical actuator. Vibrations may result in structural fatigue. For that reason, it is necessary to analyze the system structural safety. In order to analyze the system structural safety. It is needed reasonable finite element model and structural response stress closed to real value. In this paper, analytic model is derived by using the simplified finite element model, and damping ratio which is closely related to response stress is derived by using modal test. So, we developed analytic model in less than 10 % error rate, compared with modal test. Vibration response stress close to real value was estimated from analytic model modified with modal experimental damping ratio. Estimation method for damping ratio with empirical formula was suggested partly. Finally, It was proved that electro-mechanical actuator had reasonable structure margin of safety at environmental random $3{\sigma}$ stress during life cycle.

  • In this study, to evaluate conservatism of various fatigue life evaluation procedures, fatigue tests were conducted using compact tension (CT) specimens with a round notch, made of A516 Gr.70 carbon steel and A240 TP304 stainless steel, under load-controlled cyclic condition. Experimental fatigue failure cycles were measured and compared with predicted fatigue lives using two different life evaluation methods; (1) Design-By-Analysis (DBA) procedure given in ASME B&PV Code, Sec. III, Div. 1, Subsec. NB-3200 and (2) structural stress-based approach provided in ASME B&PV Code, Sec. VIII, Div. 2, Part 5. To predict fatigue failure cycles, three-dimensional elastic finite element analysis was conducted. Fatigue lives were predicted by both design fatigue curve given in ASME B&PV Code, Sec. III, Div. 1, Appendices and best-fit fatigue curve suggested in NUREG/CR-6815 for the DBA procedure. Finally, fatigue lives evaluated by various methods were compared with test results, and then conservatism between each evaluation procedure was discussed.

  • Reuse of recycled aggregate from demolished concrete structure is beneficial and necessary from the viewpoint of environmental preservation and effective utilization of resources. The most important mechanical properties of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) are the compressive strength, the tensile and the flexural strengths, the bond strength and the elastic modulus of such concrete. In particular, the stress-strain relation and fracture process of RAC in compression is especially important in theoretical and numerical analysis as well as engineering design of RAC structures. In this paper, to clarify the characteristics of fracture process in RAC, acoustic emission(AE) method is applied to detect micro-cracking in concrete under compression. From AE parameters, it is found that cracking and fracture behaviors in recycled aggregate concrete fairly differ from that of normal and recycled sand concrete.

A Study on Mechanical Characteristics and Behaviors of FRP Composite with Three Different types of Matrices under High Temperature (온도 및 매트릭스 특성 변화에 따른 섬유강화 복합재료의 역학적 특성 및 구조적 거동 변화)

  • Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composites are used extensively in aerospace, marine, automotive, infrastructure, chemical processing and sporting good applications. A concern with using FRP composites in some engineering structures is their high flammability and poor fire resistance In this research, material properties of FRP composites at increasingly high temperatures was measured and verified. The obtained mechanical properties of FRP composites were performed according to ASTM D3039/D3039M and tested to a wide range of heat conditions with temperatures from Room-temp. to 300 for times up to 30 min. It is found that the mechanical properties of FRP composites dropped with increasing heat or temperature. The reduction to the properties was due mainly to thermal degradation and combustion of the polymer matrix.

Wind Effect on Tidal Currents in the Neighborhood of Haeundae Beach (해운대 해수욕장 전면 해상의 조류에 미치는 바람효과)

  • We observed tidal currents throughout all four seasons in 2007 at a single station, located 1.6km off Haeundae Beach and compared these current data with wind data. The direction of seasonal wind represented a similarity between the winds at sea and on land but the speed of wind at sea was almost three times stronger than the wind on land. In addition, the wind at sea turned out to considerably affect on tidal currents, particularly from late summer to autumn. On the other hand, the thickness of Ekman Layer, indicating a limitation of wind influence, was estimated to be 31.8 m on average, suggesting that the entire water column is under the influence of wind. Therefore, we are required to consider the wind stress into the analysis of tidal currents for the prevention of the loss of sand from Haeundae Beach.

  • In this paper, the effect of various regression models is investigated on structural optimization using the central composite method. Three bar truss and the upper platform of a satellite are optimized using various regression models that are polynomial, exponential and log functions. Response surface method is non-gradient, semi-global, discrete and fast converging in optimization problem. Sampling points are extracted by the design of experiments using the central composite method. Response surface is generated using the various regression functions. Structural analysis for calculating constraints is executed to find static and dynamic responses. From this study, it is verified that the response surface method has advantage in optimum value and computation time in comparison to other optimization methods.

  • An explosion modeling technique was developed by using the spherical discrete element code, PFC3D, which can be used to model the dynamic stress wave propagation phenomenon. The modeling technique is simply based on an idea that the explosion pressure should be applied to a PFC3D particle assembly not in the form of an external force (body force), but in the form of a contact force (surface force). According to this concept, the explosion pressure is applied to the wall particles by the scheme of radius expansion/contraction of inner-hole particles. The output wall force is compared to the input hole pressure in every time step, and a correction routine is activated to control the radius multiplier of the inner-hole particles. A comparative blast simulation far a cement mortar block of $80\times90\times80mm$ was conducted by using the conventional explosion modeling method and the new one. The results of the simulation are presented in a qualitative fashion.

Stability Analysis of Highway Tunnel and Railway Tunnel According to Section Shape (단면형상 차이에 따른 고속도로 터널과 철도터널의 안정성 분석)

  • The number of railway tunnel design is increasing recently compare to a great number of highway tunnel design which had increased with a lot of highway construction in the 70's and 80's. Therefore, there is more or less difference of time between highway tunnel and railway tunnel. In this paper, numerical analysis on two kinds of tunnels, such as two-forked road highway ventilation tunnel and double track railway tunnel with 4.3m of center line, in cases of with support materials condition and without support materials condition were conducted. Finally, stability of two kinds of tunnels were compared and analyzed through comparing of principal stresses and deviator stresses in the near base rock of tunnels using results of numerical analysis.

A Study of MD Constitutive Model Calibration for Coarse-grained Soils (조립재료에 대한 MD 구성모델 캘리브레이션 연구)

  • The structural stability of fill dam largely depends on the engineering behavior of rock materials used as main zone for dam construction and it is necessary to understand well the stress-strain characteristics of fill materials as well as shear strength property. In addition, the numerical analysis of fill dam requires a thorough study for calibrating material properties and parameters of a coarse-grained soil constitutive model. In this paper, large triaxial test results for Buhang-dam fill materials are analyzed and constitutive model parameters are calibrated based on the test results. It is shown that MD constitutive model is capable to predict the stress-strain behavior of dense and loose coarse-grained soils used for Buhang-dam construction based on the comparison study between the experimental test result and numerical simulation.

A Study of Connection Stability for Reinforced Retaining Wall Constructed with Soilbag with Varying Connection Strength (연결강도 변화에 의한 Soilbag 보강토 옹벽 연결부의 안정성 평가)

  • Environmental-friendly and economical construction are the recent issues for civil structures and soilbag as facing wall is widely used for cut-slope remediation projects. However, the stability of structures is an important issue for the use of environmental-friendly and economical materials. In order to understand the stability of soilbag reinforced retaining wall, tensile resistance, rupture, tensile strength, and internal/external safety factor of the wall were analyzed with MSEW program and the results were compared to the safety factor of block-type reinforced walls. The stability of retaining wall was analyzed with reduction coefficients of connection strength to check the connection stability. Because it is possible to move between soilbag and geogrid connector for soilbag retaining wall, the safety factor of the wall was analyzed with different inclination angles of soilbag. The analysis result shows that the connection strength and internal/external stability of soilbag reinforced wall satisfy the stability criteria.
