  • In this study, aeroacoustic characteristics of combined fan are investigated and noise was reduced by applying Serrated Trailing Edge which is known as the method to reduce fan noises. Unsteady CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis was carried out using Lattice Boltzmann Method(LBM) to figure out the combined fan's aeroacoustics and experimental results was used to verify simulation results. Results show that different BPFs are generated at the each inner fan and outer fan on the different frequency while Blade Passing Frequency(BPF) of general fans is constant on the entire frequency range. Boundary vortex and vortex shedding are suppressed or dispersed by applying the Serrated Trailing Edge to the inner fan. Furthermore, broadband noise and fan's torque are reduced.

  • In order to study the role of legato to singers in vocal music performance, this paper adopts the methods of demonstration and induction and comparison to analyze the three factors affecting the creation of legato in performance and propose solutions. When thinking about the influence of singing skills on legato, singers will be able to solve such issues as breathing, articulation and vocal register, thus improving their singing skills. When thinking about the influence of singing language on legato, singers will make an in-depth study on the phonetic and structural features of the language to reach legato in language, thus promoting the in-depth study of singers on the singing language. When thinking about the influence of singing emotion on legato, singers will solve the problem of emotional coherence from two aspects of thought and emotion to create legato of emotion, thus promoting the expression of singers' emotion in the work. Obviously, legato plays an important role in improving singers' singing skills, singing language and singing emotion. The aim of the paper is to encourage singers to further deepen their attention to legato in vocal music performance and make better use of legato in singing.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze musical songs from an academic perspective by applying vocal techniques that can express songs in depth in three dimensions. Singing a musical song cannot be completed with just the musical part, rather, it should be accompanied by the analysis of various aspects such as the emotional state of the scenes and the characters. To this end, this study performed a multi-dimensional analysis of fields such as theatrical structure, lyrics, musical structure, and dynamics. In addition, the study explored and applied Estill Voice Training(EVT) that actors can best express songs with the emotions of the theater and music. EVT categorizes voice into six tones: speech, sob/cry, falsetto, twang, opera, and belting. In this study, in addition to these six sounds, the positions of vocal cords and larynx were also applied to seek ways to effectively express songs using "Gar Nichts" from the musical "Elisabeth" as a case study. "Gar Nichts" is a song sung by the protagonist Elisabeth, which expresses the self and the conflict at the peak of pain. Musically, this song requires various sound and voice-changing techniques to cover the range of "G#3-Gb5." As a result, it was confirmed that in order to embody the emotions of the characters and the songs in depth, the analysis of scenes and characters as well as various singing techniques need to be applied in harmony.

  • In this paper, we first looked at the structures and characteristics of the musical instrument to study the tone of haegeum, which is the only Korean musical instrument made using all the eight ingredients that make gugak instruments, and which is now the most frequently used in fusion gugak or pop music production sites. In addition, for the comparison of the various tones of the haegeum, under the same conditions, we analized how the haegeum's tone changes according to the types of Wonsan, which works as the bridge of the haegeum. Four Wonsan made of Park, Rosewood, Maple and Black Dan were used in the experiment, and low, medium, and high notes were recorded to compare the inner and outter open strings and the sound ranges. By doing so, we looked at the composition of frequency characteristics and the distribution and analyzed the timbres according to the types of Wonsan. Based on this study, it is expected to help the performers in the field choose the proper Wonsan according to each harmony part, rather than just to their tastes when performing Gugak orchestral music or haegeum ensemble. We also look forward to playing haegeum and using the timbres in various combinations of Wonsan that suit the genres at the pop music industry.

  • This paper studies the relation between the Fundamental Frequency (F0) and the formants of simple vowels in the Korean language sung by sopranos. It is hewn that, in soprano singing, the F0 of a vowel affects its formants. For this reason the formants of simple vowels sung by sopranos must be considered in all over the soprano singing range. We recorded the five simple vowel sounds /a/, /e/, /i/, /o/, and /u/ sung by five professional sopranos from A3 (220.0Hz) to A5 (880.0Hz) in the major scale and compared the formants of the sung vowels with those of spoken vowels. We observed that F1 and F2 of sung vowels were stable in low F0 (lower than B4) but in high F0 (higher than B4), F1 and F2 lost their stabilities. In the case of /a/, /o/, and /u/, the slope of the F1-F2 graph was about 2.6, and those of the F0-F2 and F0-Fl graphs were 2.2-2.5 and 0.7-1.0, respectively. And as the F0 increases, the F1 and F2 of sung vowels /a/, /e/, /i/, /o/, and /u/ were almost the same. At A5, the Fl and F2 of five sung vowels had the same values. This results suggest that the relation between the F0 and the formants be used to synthesize soprano's singing vowels.
