  • The success of K-Pop music industry continues as there is a new light shedding on the new Korean wave. There is a continuous discussion about the sustainability of the idol's dance music because of its limit in the uniform genre. As a solution to improve the quality of K-pop music, researchers said to supplement it through the change of educational system in the applied music. However, research into how much the education of applied music is contributing to the continuous success of the K-Pop music industry and how each industry is affecting each other was inadequate. Therefore, this study will understand the association between the K-Pop and the applied music, and look into ways that can act as a mutual supplementation for both fields. Subjects of analysis included performing artists, composers, arrangers, lyricists, and singers for songs within the top 100 of the digital total ranking for the past three years in the Gaon chart which is the official music chart for Korea. Then, the study apprehended how many of those subject had relations with the applied music and their activity frequency. As a result, there were a considerable number of K-Pop performers, at 41.74%, who also majored in the applied music. To continue to tendency of Korean wave and develop the Korean popular music, this study will explore roles each industry should cooperate in the future. There were the formation of social atmosphere for increase of consumer's needs to diverse K-pop music and change of education for training its human resources that K-pop industry demand.

  • In many respects, the current music education contents are learned, based on results and also, education of rhythm, which is an important component of music, is mostly implemented using scores that are based on existing results. In this study, two rhythm education contents were extracted using the number of cases in mathematics, which is a principle of the process of creating a rhythm. First, 16 rhythm education contents were extracted by calculating the number of cases to include a note and a rest in a beat except triplet Rhythm. Second, two-beat 225 rhythm education contents were extracted by calculating the number of cases to connect this one-beat contents. Rhythm education was applied to music majors in their early twenties using these two rhythm education contents and the effect was proven by the rhythmic ability test. As stated above, this study suggests advanced education contents using existing principles, which appear by going back to the basics of rhythm.

  • Music plays significant roles in the process of human development. The requirement in each process of development can be encouraged by children's participating in various musical activity and so the musical circumstance can make an important factor. Acknowledging that, there were some attempts to use music as a means of treatment or education for children. The subjects of clinic studies in music therapy, especially in Korea, have mainly been children with delay or disability in development. The purpose of this article is focused on collecting and analyzing articles which are written about children who are the main subjects of clinic studies. By collecting and analyzing those articles, the tendency of domestic studies about music therapy concerned with children can be widely examined. Ninety thesis about music therapy related with normal and disabled children have been collected and analyzed considering the subjects, methods, fields of the studies and musical intervention. The conclusions are the same with followings. First, considering the subjects, the studies on children with disabilities are more than normal children and the studies on autistic children occupy the largest portion of them Recently the studies on normal children have been increased as well as the studies on children with disability. Second, for the methods1 experimental studies have been performed more widely than descriptive studies. Third, considering the fields of development, the studies on the social field occupies the largest part of all and they are followed by emotion, language and communication, cognition in turn. Last, in case of musical intervention, it is clear that musical intervention is more used as forms of singing songs and playing instruments than special skills of music. Through this article, the achievements and shortcomings in this territory could be possibly shown at the same time. Moreover, the direction which it has to move toward could be shown.

  • Despite the numerous graduates being produced in practical music and history, which have not been shorter than 30 years, the employment of students remains an unsolvable task. Most graduates are employed by private institutes as music instructors or got involved in band activities, which are non-regular work and not stable. The rapid development of K-pop along with national strength has changed our lives as well. As a result, the cultural and artistic fields, which were previously recognized only as luxury, have rapidly become popular. In the form of learning, internalized and experiencing, not just watching has a huge impact on improving the quality of our lives. This is reflected in national policies including the operation of cultural arts, education programs in elementary, middle, and high schools, and art programs designed to improve the welfare of residents at local community centers. It is time to expand its job-horizon to the relevant fields, and thus focus on promoting programs related to obtaining certificates to help our students find jobs. In addition, the government should create a course for music teacher certification in the field of practical music that differs from the current music teacher certification of secondary schools. It is very urgent to establish the teaching course in four-year universities or graduate schools of practical music education.

  • The term practical means that you actually use what you learn. Unlike that meaning, however, the curriculum is operated by specific majors of some professors. And we can be seen in many colleges. Jazz is a prime example. Jazz is a genre only for some maniacs and there is not much places to play on the pop scene. But this genre is now packaged as representative studies of practical music. This affects even cram schools, preparing for college entrance exams, while high school students are also learning, playing and preparing Jazz to take the exams. Of course, Jazz is a field of music, but it is a very sad reality, considering it can never be the mainstream of popular music. It has been 20 years since the department of practical music was established at a four-year university. The number of graduates will also be very large. Now that the role of a university is related to employment, it's time to look at how the graduates are getting jobs and whether they are working in music. And it will also be important to ensure that the curriculum of the department is reasonably managed to connect with employment in reality. Practical learning will be not only respond immediately to market changes but establishment and operation of education courses should be carried out accordingly. In this study, we will discuss curriculum of vocal at universities, concrete examples of operations, and reasonable vocal courses that can be connected to employment.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a rhythm-based music intervention protocol to enhance timing regulation in children with ADHD and investigate its feasibility. For this purpose, a three-phase study was conducted involving ADHD children and typically developing children. In the first phase, group-specific baseline measurements were taken for auditory attention (KAT), motor timing, and perceptual timing. In the second phase, a rhythm-based music intervention protocol incorporating key factors was developed. In the third phase, the developed protocol was applied to ADHD children to investigate the variables affecting timing regulation and to verify its effectiveness. Results from the first phase revealed significant differences in the timing values of children with ADHD, particularly in tasks requiring discrimination of sound duration and precision in rhythm patterns. Additionally, exploratory factor analysis of KAT results and motor/perceptual timing identified three clusters: attentional responsiveness, attentional synchronization, and attentional sophistication. In the second phase, a protocol consisting of tasks involving synchronization, attentional shifting, and rhythm production at various difficulty levels was developed and validated for expert validity. In the third phase, individual application of the protocol to children with predominantly inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive ADHD subtypes demonstrated changes in timing regulation tasks. This study provided basic data for using rhythm as an effective facilitation tool that leads from voluntary to involuntary attention in children with ADHD.

  • The social and cultural influence about the popular music in Korea has been increased and the industry of popular culture has been also growing compared with other fields. In addition to this, many universities in Korea tends to establish departments of popular music for undergraduate and graduate program. Firstly, this paper suggest that the analysis of popular songs can be raised the academic value by the modern music theory. Secondly, the database of Korean popular songs should be built up so that popular songs can be classified to various aspects such as composers, musical style etc. As a result, Korean popular music deserves special consideration not just for the industrial value but for the contents of music education. Furthermore, these research can contribute that popular songs should be regarded and applied as a educational contents for the academic development and social improvement.

  • The purpose of this case study was to construct a social context-based musical play program for children with high-functioning Autism Spectrum disorder (ASD) and to examine its applicability in improving the social skills of the children. The participants were a group of three children with high-functioning ASD with an average age of 9 years. The children participated as a group in 40-minute sessions that were implemented twice a week for 8 weeks. The children's social communication behaviors were observed during the sessions and analyzed in terms of sharing and exchanging their ideas and voluntarily interacting with peers and an adult (i.e., the researcher). The Social Skills Rating System (SSRS) was completed by the teachers of participants before and after the intervention. For all three participants, the occurrence of behaviors to exchange their ideas with peers and voluntarily interacting with an adult increased following the intervention. However, there were individual differences between the participants in terms of changes in each target behavior depending on their level of language and social skill development. These results suggest that social context-based musical play program may produce positive changes in voluntary communication with peers and play a significant role in expanding the scope of interventions that target the social communication of children with ASD.
