A Survey on the Recognition of Rehabilitative Robots for Therapy and Self-Efficacy in University Students Enrolled in the Department of Physical Therapy (물리치료학과 학생들의 재활로봇에 대한 인식도와 자기효능감 조사)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate basic data on the recognition of rehabilitation robots and self-efficacy through general characteristics of students in the department of physical therapy. Methods: This study surveyed 100 students in the Department of Physical Therapy at E University in Seongnam using Google Form, an online survey tool. The questionnaire consisted of 64 questions including 15 questions on general characteristics, 13 questions regarding recognition of rehabilitative robots, and 36 questions about self-efficacy. General self-efficacy consisted of three sub-factors: confidence, self-regulation efficacy, and task difficulty preference. Results: The recognition of rehabilitative robots according to general characteristics showed significant differences in age, level of education, and experience in searching rehabilitative robots; according to general characteristics, self-efficacy showed significant differences dependent on age and gender (p < 0.05). In addition, recognition of rehabilitation robots for students in the Department of Physical Therapy was found to have a significant effect on robot use self-efficacy (p < 0.05). Conclusion: There were significant differences in the scores of rehabilitation robot recognition and self-efficacy according to the general characteristics of students in the Department of Physical Therapy. For such reasons, it is important for students to have an opportunity to get educated on rehabilitation robots; in order to achieve this goal, domestic studies on rehabilitation robots must be actively conducted. The technological development of rehabilitation robots and the establishment of a system for domestic rehabilitation robots from both social and legal standpoints were found to be necessary based on a volume of domestic research.

  • Deep learning is a collection of algorithms that enable learning by summarizing the key contents of large amounts of data; it is being developed to diagnose lesions in the medical imaging field. To evaluate the accuracy of the cerebral hemorrhage diagnosis, we used a convolutional neural network (CNN) to derive the diagnostic accuracy of cerebral parenchyma computed tomography (CT) images and the cerebral parenchyma CT images of areas where cerebral hemorrhages are suspected of having occurred. We compared the accuracy of CNN with different numbers of hidden layers and discovered that CNN with more hidden layers resulted in higher accuracy. The analysis results of the derived CT images used in this study to determine the presence of cerebral hemorrhages are expected to be used as foundation data in studies related to the application of artificial intelligence in the medical imaging industry.

Ultrasonographic Features and the Diagnostic Role of Core Needle Biopsy at Metastatic Breast Cancer in the Thyroid gland: A Case Report (갑상선에 생긴 전이성 유방암의 초음파 소견 및 중심부 바늘 생검의 진단적 가치: 증례 보고)

  • Metastases to the thyroid gland have rarely been reported in clinical settings, and the thyroid gland is an uncommon site for breast carcinoma metastasis. We report a case of a 64-year-old breast cancer patient diagnosed with metastatic breast carcinoma in the thyroid gland after performing ultrasonography (US)-guided core needle biopsy (CNB) and subsequent total thyroidectomy. On US, the thyroid lesion appeared to be mildly enlarged with multiple internal hypoechoic lines and a few microcalcifications without mass formation. Under US-guidance, CNB was performed by targeting the area with microcalcifications and subsequently diagnosed as metastatic breast carcinoma. Total thyroidectomy revealed that the patient had metastatic invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast with lymphatic spread involving both lobes and the isthmus of the thyroid gland. Although the thyroid gland is an uncommon metastatic site, the unusual features of thyroid metastasis can be observed on US; thus, US-guided CNB effectively aids the diagnosis of thyroid metastasis.

Characteristic MR Imaging Features and Serial Changes in Adult-Onset Alexander Disease: A Case Report (성인형 알렉산더병의 자기공명영상 소견 및 추적 관찰상의 변화: 증례 보고)

  • Adult-onset Alexander Disease (AOAD) is a rare genetically determined leukoencephalopathy that presents with ataxia, spastic paraparesis, or brain stem signs including speech abnormalities, swallowing difficulties, and frequent vomiting. The diagnosis of AOAD is frequently proposed based on the findings on MRI. We demonstrate two cases (37-year-old female and 61-year-old female) with characteristic imaging findings and changes in follow-up MRI in patients with AOAD, which were confirmed via glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) mutation analysis. On MRI, the typical tadpole-like brainstem atrophy and periventricular white matter abnormalities were noted. The presumptive diagnoses were made based on the typical MRI appearances and, subsequently, confirmed via GFAP mutation analysis. Follow-up MRI demonstrated the progression of atrophy in the medulla and upper cervical spinal cord. Our report could help raise awareness of characteristic MRI findings of AOAD, thus helping clinicians use GFAP analysis for AOAD diagnosis confirmation.

  • 아직은 섣부른 전망일 수도 있지만 인쇄관련 업체들이 밀집돼 있는 을지로, 충무로 일대에 인쇄관련 업계를 위한 정보통신망(전용망) 개설 움직임이 일면서 파일 등 전송분야에 일대 혁신이 일어날 것으로 보인다. 'PIN프로젝트'로 명명된 이번 인쇄 전용망 개설 사업에 대해 혹자는 가히 혁명적 이라는 표현을 서슴지 않고 있을 정도이다. 이에 본지에서는 이번 PIN(Publishing Information Network)프로젝트가 어떤 과정을 거쳐 어떻게 서비스되는 것인지 그리고 이 PIN프로젝트가 미칠 영향은 무엇인지에 대해 알아보았다.
