An Experimental Study on the Treatment of Organic Wastewater by Soil Microbes Using Three-phase Fluidized Bed (삼상유동층 반응기에서 토양미생물에 의한 유기성 폐수처리에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, isolated and cultured nitrogen fixed microbes were seeded in the three-phase fluidized bed in which gas, solid and liquid were contacted directly. Input velocity was varied from 8.12 cm/hr to 16.32 cm/hr. And upflow gas pressure was fixed to 80 psi. Return ratios were from 0.2 to 0.6 with the each experimental condition. According to these condition, movement of media, growth of biofilm and removal efficiency were measured. As the results, in case of briquette ash, biofilm was developed to $170{\mu}m$ when velocity was 8.12 cm/hr and return ratio was 0.6. In this condition, COD removal efficiency was 97% and $NH_4$-N removal efficiency was 83%. At the same condition, biofilm thickness of glass bead was $17.59{\mu}m$ and its COD and $NH_4$-N removal efficiency was 83% and 72%. Nitrogen fixed microbes have following characters: it formed dark-brownish sludge, excellent adhesive force, easy solid-liquid separation and low oxygen uptake ratio, but sensitive to DO concentration. Not only it endured shock loading, but required short time to steady state.

Thermal Phenomena of an N2O Catalyst Bed for Hybrid Rockets Using a Porous Medium Approach (다공성 매질 접근법을 적용한 하이브리드 로켓 N2O 촉매 점화기의 열적 현상)

  • In this study, fluid flow and thermal characteristics in a catalyst bed for nitrous oxide catalytic decomposition which is introduced as a hybrid rocket ignition system for small satellites were theoretically considered. To analyze the thermal phenomena of the catalyst bed, a so-called porous medium approach has been opted for modeling the honeycomb geometry of the catalyst bed. Using a Brinkman-extended Darcy model for fluid flow and the one-equation model for heat transfer, the analytical solutions for both velocity and temperature distributions in the catalyst bed are obtained and compared with experimental data to validate the porous medium approach. Based on the analytical solutions, parameters of engineering importance are identified to be the porosity of the catalyst bed, effective volumetric ratio, the ratio of the radius of the catalyst bed to the radius of a pore, heat flux generated by a heater, and pumping power. Their effects on thermal phenomena of the catalyst bed are studied.

  • We performed spectroscopic ellipsometry measurement to obtain dielectric function(DF) of ZnSe at room temperature. Proper wet chemical etching procedure was carried out to remove overlayers on top of ZnSe, and our result indicates that the previous reports on the pure DF of ZnSe have inaccurate interpretations. We constructed DF of oxide on ZnSe by using reported DFs of amorphous-Se, $GaAsO_3$, and voids through Bruggeman effective-medium approximation.

Effective thermal conductivity of the phase change material with metal scrap (금속스크랩이 혼합된 상변화물질의 유효열전도율)

  • A set of measurements has been made for the thermal conductivity of the pure paraffin in liquid and solid phases and for the effective thermal conductivity of the paraffin with metal scrap with the aid of the heat flux meter. Ther thermopile-type heat flux meter has been designed by steady state method and the functional relation between the temperature difference of both sides and heat flux has been obtained. The measured values of thermal conductivity are compared with the existing data for the pure paraffin and with the predicated values from the suggested model in which only one empirical constant is contained. The comparison within ten percent of the volume fraction of the metal scrap in the paraffin is satisfactory.

  • Colossal magnetoresistance is closely related to (but is not) the abrupt change of electrical resistivity in the vicinity of Curie temperature, which is caused by the temperature dependent paramagnetic-ferromagnetic phase transition and concurrent change of electrical conducting mechanism. A resistivity-temperature equation is presented to fully describe the overall behavior, especially the abrupt change. The main ingredients of the equation are a simple effective media theory and a function for the temperature dependent fraction of ferromagnetic phase. The model fits very well to the measured resistivity-temperature curve of $La_{0.7}Ca_{0.3}MnO_3$.

Application Limits of Transmission Line Approximations for Design of Electromagnetic Absorbers (전파흡수체 설계에 있어서 전송선로 근사방법의 적용 한계)

  • The scattering problems from electromagnetic absorbers can be greatly simplified using the transmission line approximations (TLA) and effective medium theory. This method has been widely used for the absorber design because of its very simple calculation and intuitional approach, while numerical analysis needs the tremendous computation requirements, This paper examined the accuracy and limitations originated by the intrinsic approximation limits of TLA by comparison with FEM results for various absorber design examples. It was found that the TLA result is valid when λ $\geq$ 2p, where λ is the wavelength of the interested upper frequency and p is the distance between two periodic cone arrays. Therefore, the electromagnetic absorbers having high material properties and big base-area commonly do not meet this condition, and the electromagnetic scattering from those absorbers must be evaluated by the numerical analysis in those cases.

  • Discrete fracture model has become one of the alternatives for the classical continuum model to simulate the irregular aspects of the fluid flow and the solute transport in fractured rocks. It is based on the assumptions that the discharge in a single fracture is proportional to the cube of the aperture and the fractured rock can be represented by the statistical assemblage of such single fractures. This study is intended to evaluate the effect of the fracture junction on the cubic law. Numerical solution of flow in junction system was obtained by using the Boundary-Fitted Coordinate System (BFCS) method. Results with different intersection angles in crossing fractures show that the geometry of the junction affects the discharge pattern under the same simulation conditions. Therefore, strict numerical and experimental examinations on this subject are required.

  • ■ 광통신용 렌즈는 광통신 시스템에 있어서 송신단과 수신단에 사용되는 하나의 부품으로 집광/발산의 결상 기능을 지니며, 광회로 부품과 광섬유 또는 수발광소자인 LD/PD와 광섬유를 효율 좋게 저손실로 접속하는 기능을 수행함. ■ 마이크로 렌즈는 마이크로 광학의 분야에 있어 광의 집광 및 평행 광으로의 변환에 빠질 수 없는 가장 기본적인 소자로서, 마이크로 렌즈의 종류로는 마이크로 볼 렌즈, 비구면 렌즈와 GRIN 렌즈가 대표적으로 있음. ■ 렌즈에 적용되는 사양으로서 렌즈의 유효 구경, 초점(focal point), 주점(principle point), 주점에서 초점까지의 거리인 초점 거리(focal length), 가상의 법선을 기준으로 빛이 입사되는 각도인 입사각, 빛이 다른 매질을 만나 반사되는 각도인 반사각, 서로 다른 매질을 빛이 통과할 때 굴절하는 굴절각 등이 있음. ■ 렌즈 모듈의 구조는 렌즈, 스페이서(spacer), 아리리스(Iris), 백링(back-ring), 바렐(Barrel)로 구성함. ■ LD 모듈에서 광원에 패브리 페로(FP)로 사용하는 것에는 볼 렌즈가, DFB 광원으로 사용하는 것으로는 비구면 렌즈가 사용하고 있음. 이를 위해 PON용에서는 G-PON의 OLT, ONU 측, GE-PON의 OLT측에는 비구면 렌즈가 사용되나 GE-PON의 ONU측에는 볼 렌즈가 주로 사용되고 있음. ■ 2012년 볼 렌즈 시장은 수량 기반으로 2011년 대비 9.7% 증가한 7,350만 개, 금액기반으로는 17.0% 증가한 3,125만$를 기록하였음. ■ 2012년 비구면 렌즈 시장은 수량 기반으로 2011년 대비 22.0% 증가한 2,220만 개, 금액 기반으로는 32.0% 증가한 8,900만$를 기록하였음. ■ 2012년 광통신용 렌즈 시장(볼 + 비구면)은 수량 기반으로 2011년 대비 12.3% 증가한 9,570만 개, 금액 기반으로는 27.7% 증가한 1억 2,063만$이었음.

A study on the transmission efficiency of electromagnetic wave propagation in cross type tunnels in time domain (시간영역에서 십자형 터널 내의 전파 전파의 전송 효율에 관한연구)

  • This paper presents an analysis of the wave propagation in cross-type tunnels using the finite volume time domain (FVTD) method. Because the FVTD method is based on the volume intergrations of themaxwell's equations with respected to arbitrary shaped small polyhedron cells and the fields at every center point of the cells ar eassigned in a average fashion, the method can handle arbitrary boundary problems with inhomogeneous media. In this paper, the wave propagation in cross-type tunnels has been analyzed using the fVTD method with the PML (perfectly matched layer) absorbing bundary conditons, and the numerical results are verified with a set of experimental data.

좁쌀약주의 여과공정 개선에 관한 연구

  • 제주지역 양조산업의 산업화 기술 개발의 일환으로 제주지역의 대표적인 전통 좁쌀 약주 제품에 대하여 유통 과정 중에 발생하는 침전 형성을 방지하는 기술을 개발하기 위하여 여과 공정 개선에 관한 연구를 실시하고 개선 방안을 제시하였다. 각종 공극 크기의 유리 막 여과지와 중공사막 카트리지 여과 연구 결과, 이 좁쌀 약주 제품에서 대부분이 침전 형성 가능한 입자들은 1.2$\mu\textrm{m}$여과 매질 공극 크기에 의한 여과에 의하여 제거 되여 보통의 소비에 문제가 되는 침전은 잘 않되는 것으로 조사되었다. 현재 제품 제조 현장에서 사용되고 있는 l$\mu\textrm{m}$ 공극 크기 원통형 정밀 여과기인 경우 이론적으로는 합당하나 여과 매질에 대한 산업 인 공극 크기에 대한 오차 한계인 $\pm$20-30% 때문에 일부제품에서 침전 발생하는 것으로 분석되었다. 또한 4$^{\circ}C$와 실온을 48시간씩 반복하면서 3개월간 저장 중 유리 막 여과지인 경우는 0.7$\mu\textrm{m}$ 공극크기의 여과에서도 세밀한 관찰에 의하여 침전형성이 관찰되었으나 중공사막인 경우에는 0.45$\mu\textrm{m}$에서도 전연 침전형성이 관찰되지 않았다. 따라서 완벽한 침전 형성 방지를 위해서는 최종 여과공정에 중공사막 여과 시스템 도입이 효과적이며, 설계 기준은 0.45$\mu\textrm{m}$ 공극과 내경 1mm정도의 중공사막을 유효 여과 면적 1$m^2$정도를 가지도록 하는 중공사막 여과 시스템인 경우 여과 능력은 약400ι/hr로 계산되었다.
