  • The hydrodynamics code is a numerical tool developed for modeling high velocity impacts where the materials are assumed to behave like fluids. The hydrodynamics code is widely used for solving impact problems, such as rock blasting using explosives. For a realistic simulation of rock blasting, it is necessary to model explosives numerically so that the interaction problem between rock and explosives can be solved in a fully coupled manner. The equation of state of explosives, which describes the state of the material under given physical conditions, should be established. In this paper, we introduced the hydrodynamics code used for explosion process modeling, the equation of state of explosives, and the determination of associated parameters.

  • Liquid rocket injectors play crucial roles on propulsive performance, combustion stability, and heat transfer characteristics. Nevertheless, their developments have mainly relied on empirical methods and expensive hot-firing tests due to lack of fundamental understanding of high pressure combustion phenomena in the near-injector regions. The present study was motivated by recent efforts to develop reliable modeling of liquid rocket combustion. The turbulent combustion model based on the flamelet concept has been extended to take into account real-fluid behaviors occurred at supercritical pressures, and validated against measurements for a cryogenic nitrogen injection, a non-premixed turbulent jet flame at atmospheric pressure, and a LOx/$GH_2$ coaxial shear injector at a supercritical pressure.

  • A density based method with homogeneous cavitation model to investigate cavitation-bubble collapsing behavior is proposed and applied to bubble-shock interaction problems. By applying this method, cylindrical bubbles located in the liquid and incident liquid shock wave are computed. Bubble collapsing behavior, shock-bubble interaction and shock transmission/reflection pattern are investigated.

  • This paper proposes a three-dimensional haptotaxis model to simulate the migration of the population of cancer cells. The invasion of the cancer cells relates with the hapto- and the effect of the energy between cells and (ECM). The diffuse interface model is employed, which incorporates haptotaxis mechanism and interface energies. The semi-implicit Fourier spectral scheme is adopted for efficient complications. The simulation results reveal rich dynamics of cancer cells migration.

  • The flow around a ship is complex, especially, at the stern region of a full ship, where highly curved streamlines, hook-shaped iso-velocity contours, and strong secondary flow exist. To resolve this complex flow, an Algebraic Stress Model(ASM) is applied. The calculations are performed for the HSVA Tanker. The results are improved comparing with those of standard k-ε turbulence model, but still show a little difference from the experiments.

  • The two-fluid model is widely used for practical applications involving multi-phase flows in chemical reactor, nuclear reactor, desalination systems, boilers, and internal combustion engine. There are several modeling terms in the two-fluid model, which must be determined properly. This study suggests the best models for turbulent vertical bubbly flow.

  • In this study, blood flow in a carotid artery supplying blood to the human's brain has been numerically simulated to find out how the blood flow affects the genesis and the growth of atherosclerosis and arterial thrombosis. Velocity Profiles and hemodynamic parameters have been investigated for the carotid arteries with three different stenoses under physiological flow condition. Blood has been treated as Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluid. To model the shear thinning properties of blood for non-Newtonian fluid, the Carreau-Yasuda model has been employed. The result shows that the wall shear stress(WSS) increases with the development of stenosis and that the wall shear stress in Newtonian fluid is highly evaluated compared with that in non-Newtonian Fluid. Oscillatory shear index has been employed to identify the time-averaged reattachment point and this point is located farther from the stenosis for Newtonian fluid than for non-Newtonian fluid The wall shear stress gradient(WSSG) along the wall has been estimated to be very high around the stenosis region when stenosis is developed much and the WSSG peak value of Newtonian fluid is higher than that of non-Newtonian fluid.

  • The prediction of heat transfer and pressure drops in the exchanger passages is a clue to the problem of heat exchanger design. In order to make such predictions for non-Newtonian fluids, it is necessary to know the relation between the viscous properties of the fluid and the wall shear rate in the duct. This study deals with the limits of validity of the power law equation. The useful methodology of the present research involves a consideration of a more general equation which has power law and Newtonian behavior as asymptotes. It isconcluded that use of the power law equation outside of its applicability range can lead to serious errors inpredicting the heat transfer and pressure drops. The present computational results of the friction factors times Reynolds number for shear-thinning fluid flows in a triangular duct are compared with previous published results, showing agreement with 0.13 % in Newtonian region and 2.85 % in power law region. These shear-thinning fluid results also showed the 12% increase of convective heat transfer enhancement compared with Newtonian heat transfer.

  • The long-term water-quality change of Asan Bay by the influx of polluted disposal water was predicted through a simulation with an Eco-hydrodynamic model. Eco-hydrodynamic model is composed of a multi-level hydrodynamic model to simulate the water flow and an ecosystem model to simulate water quality. The water quality simulation revealed that the COD(Chemical Oxygen Demand), dissolved inorganic nitrogen(DIN) and dissolved inorganic phosphorus(DIP) are increased at 5 stations for the subsequent 6 months after the influx of the effluent. COD, DIN and DIP showed gradual decreases in concentration during the period of one to two years after the increase of last 6 months and reached steady state for next three to ten years. Concentration levels of COD, DIN, and DIP showed the increase by the ranges of $11{\sim}67%$, $10{\sim}67%$, and $0.5{\sim}7%$, respectively, which represents that the COD and DIN are the most prevalent pollutants among substances in the effluent through the sewage treatment plant. The current water quality of Asan Bay based on the observed COD, TN and TP concentrations ranks into the class II of the Korean standards for marine water quality but the water quality would deteriorate into class III in case that the disposal water by the sewage plant is discharged into the Bay.
