Flow Visualization of a jet generated by a sweeping jet actuator (유체 진동기에 의해 생성된 제트의 유동가시화)

  • A sweeping jet actuator (SJA) is an instrument generating pulsing jets with no moving elements. Because of its simple design and high durability to shock and vibration, SJA has recently drawn increasing attention for the application to flow control such as aerodynamic control of a wing and thrust vectoring of a jet engine. However, experimental and numerical studies on SJA have been limited to internal flow structure of SJA. In this study, we investigated the flow structure and its variation in the outlet of SJA. We carried out the experiment to understand the flow structures using PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry). The flow structure varies with a degree of the outlet and volume flow rate. There is leaking process during half jetting cycle. The process of the main jet can occur because the jet moving time increased from one side to the other side.

  • Recently, the next-generation advanced flow visualization techniques such as holographic PIV, aynni.c PIV, echo-PIV, micro/nano-PIV, and X-ray PIV have been introduced. These advanced mea-surement techniques have a big potential as the core technology for analyzing outmost thermo-fluid flows in future. They would be indispensable in solving complicated thermo-fluid flow problems not only in industrial fields such as automotive, space, electronics, aero- and hydro-dynamics. steel, and information engineering, but also in the research fields of medical science, bio-medical engineering, environmental and energy technology etc. Especially, NT (Nano Technology) and BT (Bio Technology) strongly demand these advanced measurement techniques, because it is impossible for conventional measurement methods to observe the nano- and bio-fluidic flow phenomena. In this article, the basic principle of these high-tech flow visualization techniques and their practical applications which cannot be resolved by conventional methods, such as blood flows in a micro-tube, in vivo analysis of micro-circulation, and flow around a living body are introduced as a blue ocean strategy.

Quadrangular Splatting based on SPH (SPH 기반의 사각 스플렛팅 가시화 기법)

  • Physics-based graphic techniques are used when simulating and rendering natural phenomena such as smoke, water and flame with computational physics. We propose novel methods which render simulated particle data fast onto 3D using tetrahedron splat. We calculate the position and the normal vector of splat by SPH(smoothed particle hydrodynamics) method then we reconstruct splat into quadrangular pyramid to reduce seam. We implement this technique for SPH fluid simulation, and animate natural flow of water successfully.

  • The two-fluid model is widely used for practical applications involving multi-phase flows in chemical reactor, nuclear reactor, desalination systems, boilers, and internal combustion engine. There are several modeling terms in the two-fluid model, which must be determined properly. This study suggests the best models for turbulent vertical bubbly flow.

  • Post-processing programs play an important role in the CFD data visualization and analysis. A variety of post-processing softwares have been developed and are being used in the CFD community. Developing a good quality of post-processing program requires dedication and efforts. In this paper an experience obtained through previous studies and developing post-processing programs are introduced which includes data structure and visualization algorithms.

  • The stable deposition of impinging droplets on non-wetting substrates is of great importance for numerous industrial and scientific applications such as coating techniques, inkjet printing, spray cooling of heated surfaces. In this work, we systematically investigate impinging behaviors of non-Newtonian and viscous droplets ejected by electrohydrodynamic atomization.
